The video is NOT intended to be a race between the rifles.
The main point of this video is to show that there is no big time difference in manipulation of three totally different weapon systems.
We try to show that it's not the rifle that is important but the SKILL of the operator.
We should all remember that weapons are tools and even the best, most expensive tools can be useless in untrained hands.
Train with your weapons, know them and be proficient with them - you can make every weapon an effective tool if you know how to use it properly!
Stay safe and remember - "slow is smooth, smooth is fast"

I agree , the 7.62 NATO cartridge is a very effective stopper of man size prey. The 7.62X39 and the 5.56 NATO are good rounds but not as versatile as the old 30-06 short cartridge.

As my camera guy tried to expain to you in a bit of a rude fashion, this video was never intended to be a comparison of the speed between different weapon systems. The point of this video was to show, that it's not just the weapon system that is important but also the guy operating it. As you can see in the video, i was almost as fast as the guy with an AR, regardless of the fact that i used a G3 and AK style rifles that are often regarded as slower. I hope that makes some sense. thanks! i know what you mean, when ak was designed there was no such thing as ergonomics :) practice makes perfect - and try using polymer magazines, those are a bit slimmer if you still can do it, than there are two options: - you just reload like you would on a fast reload (without charging the slide) and then you just pick up the mag and throw it in the dump pouch - you tape two mags together and do the drills and reloads accordingly :)

Yeah, the G3 sure is something. It's and old rifle, heavy and have fairly small magazines - but they are accurate, reliable and very powerful. Actually, a variant of the H&K G3 is manufactured here in Sweden (modified for our climate) called Automatkarbin 4, AK4, which is the standard service weapon for the Swedish Home Guard.

Yeah, those friends of mine were infantrymen from my old unit. I think that putting it in context, infantrymen fighting direct action is the most fitting role for tactical reloading skills. And in that regard, reloading at the speeds these guys are is not realistic. In a competition perhaps speeds like these are useful, but in a real-world application it's unrealistic.

they are definitely more reliable than normal AR plaforms but HK416 is not far behind i wouldn't say that it can endure as much beating and dirt as an AK but it's as close as it can get for an AR style weapon system this are three different weapon systems and every one of them has it's pros and cons for example, G3 is very accurate, reliable and can deliver a lot of penetrating power over long distances but it's big, heavy and bulky and has strong recoil

I am probably from old school. I leave army 10 years ago (12 years serve), but whats the new mode wave with after shooting looking around and behind shoulders? When I was in army there were rule - look where is your barrell pointing - because you need shoot when you see enemy. I understand military and civil tactic drills are differrent, but shooting range rules is same. If you turn around you lose 100% control of weapon. If I did something like these guys did, my squad leader beat me to the ground.

The video would have been informative if one shooter did all three platforms. As an active 3 gun shooter I must say if you cannot run the AR platform faster than the AK platform you are doing something wrong. I'm currently still running the AK platform although I have an S&W M&P15 and I know the AK is slower when it comes to mag changes. Hence you have shooters at different skill levels running different platforms. too many variables to scientifically proof anything.

Hey Lin, fancy hearing from you :-) The Namibian Defence Force issued us with G3: what a piece of rubbish. The SADF R4 was a much nicer rifle, but it had much less tolerance so may jam easier than a G3 in sandy conditions. Regards, Stefan

True but the same argument rings true for the platforms. Look at the video. The AK mag changes are running faster than the AR? That's shooter skill. Not platform superiority. Like I said too many variables to really be of value. Nice clip to watch, don't get me wrong, but not really informative as to which platform is better for each application.

Stefan Mahs, hello :) Yes, the G3's are nice. Fluted chambers and all but not built for Africa. If I had to take something locally in 7.62x51 it would have to be the FAL. Just based on budget. If money was no issue the FN SCAR would be my ultimate 308 rifle and that's saying a lot since I'm a huge HK fan boy. But the SCAR takes the HK417 in recoil reduction and running it fast. I mean I look at this from a competitive side of things. Not military applications.

Yeah and i heard it too from my father, who served in the Bundeswehr when the G3 was the standard issue rifle. How proud he was, able to release the bolt, while smacking the rifle wooden stock first to the ground.

They call all AK-family rifles AK-47. Really in Russia AK-47 was just a prototype and what you call AK-47 is just an AK. This one is a serbian version of russian AKM. Also there're AK-74 and other versions as 100's models plus 12 and 9.

Actually the AK-47 was a post WWII copy and improvement of the German STG-44 because without the Germans the Ruskies wouldn't have had the smarts to figure it out.

Complete bullshit. The only thing the russians later copied was manufacturing it with stamped parts instead of milled parts to save time and costs. Other than that the Ak-47 is its own original design. The russians already played around with the idea of an assault rifle when they developed the Fedorov, years before the Stg-44. I'm from Germany btw... Get your shit together dude!

it depends in this case transition was done when the rifle was empty so there is no need for safety but in a case where you would have a loaded rifle and you would like to transition to a pistol, then you MUST engage the safety

I agree, people spend way too much time worrying about this or that gear loadout. Muscle memory training and psychology of the shooter are far more important.

Nice comparison. I like what you guys did here. Unfortunately the guy with the AR needs a lot of practice. But watching someone do the reloads gives people an idea when they buy a weapon like this for home defense.

yes, if you need reliability get an AK i had a chance to fire a banged up yugo M70 that had almost no finish left on the scratched metal parts, the wood looked like it was chewed by a dog, it was rusty and the man said that he had never cleaned it that rifle still worked without any problems and was still able to consistently hit a target at 100 meters

Also you can silently close the breech. Instead of jamming it closed let it slowly move forward. Then insert a rod into the hole visible in the receiver and push the breech slowly into the locked position. The Norwegian G3 has grooves cut into the receiver to use your thumb to silently lock the breech.

If you look closer you can see the bolt is locked to the rear after the first shot so the second shooter did have to chamber a round. If you are not familiar with that weapon system there is a bolt release on the other side of the rifle that camera could not see the shooter hit.
@ellipsis117
@ellipsis117 11 жыл бұрын
you are right. if the rifle was out of ammo, the bolt would lock itself back, if the rifle was not out ammo, no need to pull the bolt.

We all know that the fastest reload would be the gun with AR control layout and the slowest reload would be the G3. Guns with AR control layout like that can allow you do tactical reload with many techniques.

i think some Valmet rifles had the M-62S and the M-71S designations but when people talk about the M70 they are refearing to zastava arms M70 b1 or M70 ab2 - the Yugoslavian AK variants b1 designation is for fixed stock and ab2 is for underfolder

That's because the HK416 has a bolt hold-open device which means there is no need to operate the cocking handle as there is on the other two weapons. The operator simply presses the bolt-release catch with his left thumb on the far-side of the receiver.
@NuclearHeadshot
@NuclearHeadshot 11 жыл бұрын
You are correct, he did chamber a new round. Your argument, however, have some issues. He didn't have to shoot all of the rounds in the magazine, which would leave a bullet already chambered. He wouldn't have chambered a round from the new mag but the gun rifle would still fire. However, as stated by other comments, the AR-15 platform has a button which automatically releases the bolt and chambers a new round.
