What a stunningly original and imaginative arrangement of Danse Macabre this is, a work I've heard many times but never like this. To exchange the violin solo for mallet percussion and have them play through the entire piece was a stroke of genius. They and the rest of the orchestra performed it brilliantly. Bravo!

Appreciated by 49,000 people - disliked by 1,000 obnoxious philistines. A superb production in EVERY respect; the playing, and the filming - and how refreshing to come across an audience who listen in total silence, and save their applause and cheers for the end - rather than thinking that the only way of showing their appreciation is to indulge in stamping, wild clapping, whistling, and screaming whilst musicians are creating beautiful music!

I am a physics student and now computer scientist who played double bass while in school. At Uni we performed the Organ Symphony. I did my best on double bass but more often wept at the beauty of the upper strings. Although I was a science student on loan to the music department, I dedicated myself to the double bass. Saint Saens' work was the most important piece of work that I remember, 30 years later. The poco adagio and the maestoso. I am a better computer programmer than a musician, but this performance reminds me of my moments in student symphony when it really mattered to get it right. These students are performing to a level impossible to imagine in my day. The land of Frederic Chopin has therefore just begun to show us the promise of music, in these students: may they all live happy careers, and entertain and enlighten us all. Love from Kentucky.

@@dinkledankle I don't know how old you are, when I went to school, back in the 1960's and mid 70's, music class was mandatory in elementary school, band was optional for those who played or were learning to play. Today, I don't know. I just looked up our High School, and there didn't seem to be any 'primary' music classes, just classes for those who already played or were in a band or orchestra. But, all in all, I don't think primary school education is what it was when I was in school, so long ago.

In all the several decades that I've played this symphony on records, tapes and CD by Saint-Saens (and even seen it performed once or twice), this is the first time seeing the percussion related instruments "do their thing". It was the kind of thing that the composer probably had in forefront of emphasizing : the bones of human skeletons roaming a cemetery (probably a large cemetery) for awhile in a dance. Xylophone, marimba, orchestral bells & vibraphone all are complex set of musical instruments that I am enjoying more of these past few years. There is so much potential with the instruments in literally all types of music forms. This performance of 2014 was very good. Discipline performers. For this near 70 year old man, that's good to see.

Very talented young musicians and a perfect arrangement and recording. Here in England we had a TV series called Jonathan Creek and this was the theme tune. It fitted well as it was a magician who solved mysteries for people. Brings back fond memories. 🙂🙂🙂

I agree with the other commenters regarding how wonderful this arrangement is. It is so refreshing to hear the percussion artists have a chance to shine like they do. I haven't found a version of Danse Macabre that I like better!

Trawling through KZfaq and I came across this production, and I really have to say how *tremendous* it was to immerse myself in the professional performance by each and every orchestra member who gave their all to this incredible piece. A seriously awesome performance. I have re-played over and over through a HQ surround system and thoroughly enjoyed this. 10/10.

I finish my day each evening by going on to youtube to watch and listen to whatever classical concerto or symphony has been on my mind. About 6 months ago I came across the marvellous youtube concerts by various Polish youth orchestras and all filmed by Akademia Film i Telewizji. I have been absolutely amazed at the skills of these young people, the quality of the films and the beautiful music they play. The best part is that each evening, whilst looking for something that has been in my mind, a totally new piece played by one of these orchestras appears. I cannot praise these young musicians too much, it is testament to the quality of their training and their brilliant skills. Congratulations to Akademia Film i Telewizji and please keep new pieces coming on to youtube..

I've watched this performance at least a dozen times. This student orchestra is easily as good as any full professional orchestra I've heard. I love the guys on the Marimba(? wooden keys to the right of the rest of them. The red head in the 1st violin chair is almost dancing to the music. The little guy playing the french horn reminds me of myself in the 9th grade. I could not afford a french horn of my own and the high school music instructor was terrible. Drove me out of the music field completely. We were NEVER even close to being this good and I'm envious of their skill and talent.

This piece is built for the xylophone. I wanted one when I was young but did not pass a "music test" and so my father refused to buy me one. The xylophone players did fantastic support and the head xy player did a tremendous job. This is a two thumbs up performance.
