Wireless will always cause a higher input delay... i really like wired devices

Well bluetooth connection will definitely impose a latency - if you use 2.4ghz wireless receiver tho... the latency is very much minimal (6ms median). And for offline mixing, having a minimally small latency really isn't much of an issue, even if you are dealing with live automation. Saying that, I would not make my whole setup wireless, since using the same band on many devices will actually increase latency between devices. Hence I prefer a "hybrid" setup - Controllers can be wireless (keyboard, mouse, mixer), rest wired all day long (instrument outputs, audio hardware).

I really wish Korg would release newer version of that controller. Its almost 6 years old now, and no built in battery and old USB port if you want to do wired. I have the nanoKEY version and its been good and I use it wirelessly, but the down side is bluetooth midi doesn't support sharing the clock so if you use the arp on it you can't sync it wirelessly.

I purchased the AKAI MIDIMix and had nothing but problems. The controller would fluctuate between being recognized and not recognized. In my DAW, I would get random error messages saying that the device inputs or outputs could not be started. I thought it might be my DAW, so I downloaded Ableton Lite and still got the same error messages. I would not recommend buying it just because you run a good chance of getting a dud unit

For live applications, I believe wired connections are required. But for studio or home use, I love wireless setups.

I actually thought about combining these for two separate purposes. Korg NanoKontrol for main DAW controls but MIDIMIX for EQ (Korg: Pan/Main Volume. MIDIMIX: Low/Mid/High/Dynamic Volume) in my Mixcraft DAW.

Been looking at the Akai midimix recently and I'm thinking it's a pretty decent piece of gear, but I'm not going to get it now. The reason is it's age. Now that wouldn't be a problem in of itself, (if it does what you need it to, who cares?) but the fact that Akai's MPK mini mk III now has endless encoder knobs and it's likely they'll put those knobs on future devices, so it's a safe bet that we'll see a new version of the midimix in the next year or so.

Wireless is cool and all, but when you pay 1/3 of the price for having to spend money on betteries and get more imput lag, instead of using a cable. I dont think it is woth it. And imput lag is not a big issue for most people, but when you are performing live, it will suck. A saw a nother review where the delay was about 0.5 sec. And that will make a big difference when performing live.

Hey John Mike, I picked up the NanoKontrol to control AUM and it's working great. I have to say I'm very new with it so hoping you can answer a few questions. This only seems to work in bluetooth mode as a battery powered device, the USB power cable doesn't work. I noticed that it wants to turn off after about 2 minutes of idle, lights start flashing. I assume that's the precursor to it turning off or at least disconnecting and sleeping. Do you find it will wake right back up and connect with the IPAD instantly and preserve your settings, or do you have to reload it? If it reloads everything then is there a way to disable the turn off function in IPAD? Seems that there is a Korg Kontrol app but not sure if it's there for IOS, and in that app there is a way to disable the autopower off. Thoughts?
@Johnmike
@Johnmike 5 жыл бұрын
The USB port does work fine...there is a switch that lets you switch between Bluetooth and USB...click it all the way right and you get Bluetooth...click it all the way left and you get usb...in the middle is the off position...
@DarthMWAL
@DarthMWAL 5 жыл бұрын
@@Johnmike Thanks for the reply! Sadly I can't use it (that I know of) as a USB device. I am using it to control AUM and the functions of multiple synths loaded in there. It appears at least from the documentation that the USB port only controls or interfaces with one program at a time. Plus I have a lightning port so I can't connect it at the same time I connect my keyboard. So I have to use Bluetooth and it just drains batteries in a day or two. Do you know of any way to at least power the device constantly via USB hub or something like that via power cable?
@Johnmike

M WAL yes a USB hub would be your answer...
