Irish people commonly sing in a similar accent to the Jamacian accent, its the similar way vowels form in both accents that make them so distinct. So is he saying that because Maverick Sabre sounds sounds vowels simillarly to a Jamacian person this makes him a racist? I'm genuinley curious
@j.m32998 жыл бұрын
who said the song is highlighting the worst of the Jamaican culture, just because the video features predominantly black people doesn't it's only about them, it's about everyone who comes from a difficult background and lives in dangerous places, black or white.

The accent thing is quite funny, even though many black Britons retain some West Indian linguistics their accent is still more British

Fair dues, I'm northern Irish and is someone started takin the piss in a Belfast accent about " Fenians and Huns" it would get me flapping. Only we are allowed to do that

When has he claimed to be exclusively black Jamaican? You can't be angry with him for identifying more with black Jamaican culture than British culture, you seem to want him to only embrace his English side and totally ignore his Jamaican ancestry. Pro-Green (a non black person) portrayed black culture in a negative light. Yes Akala (a mixed race person) portrayed Caucasians in a negative light but considering he was raised by a WHITE mum I think its fair to assume he isn't racist.
@thejesta99912 жыл бұрын
hes not singing in a jamican accent hes got his own style and persona you cannot claim everything's yours when its not urban culture is not just black, white, Asian its URBAN white people live in the ghettos black people live in the ghettos we pass intelligence and we pick things up from our neighbors so in my opinion we should all come off the race subject and stand up as 1 UK STAND UP
@EscapeTheHold11 жыл бұрын
Akala is mixed race and was raised by a white mother. To call him racist is irrational, a huge exaggeration and also an over analysis of a simple metaphor. Whilst his use of the word "crackers" was a bit irresponsible, it quite obviously represented his view on the rich and powerful as evident by the "white man in a suit". I think you should review your definition of the word racist, find its actual definition, observe Akala's actions rather than his lyrics from 2006, and then call him racist.

Iqbal Ahmed.. I couldn't agree more. Spot on :). I like Akala and have respect for him but let's just move on and stop making issues out of nothing. Like you said he doesn't have to spend his life talking shit

Maverick's accent isn't Jamaican in this video at all! That's just how he talks, his accent it sort of hybrid of a Londoner accent and an Irish one and sounds just the same as his singing voice. This guy just wants everyone to be racist so he can complain about it!
@FreerunRich10 жыл бұрын
I just watched the Professor Green video and as much as i respect Akala as a very knowledgeable and intelligent individual, I think he is wrong and the video is absolutely not racist in any way. The song is comparing the streets to a jungle; it's a dangerous place etc, etc. Of course, as a musical artist, he is going to use sentences that refer to a jungle to describe the streets and the people in them! That's how rappers write lyrics nowadays, using metaphors etc. Don't jump to the conclusion that it is racist just because the word ape was used when a black man was on screen! My 2 cents. Peace!

@thejesta999 have you not heard? urban means black lool. seriously the media dont like to say black, so they call it urban. But did u not hear what akala said, just because some people wna disrespect their own culture it doesnt mean YOU should disrespect their culture just because you live near them.. Nd that slyly sounds like a jamaican accent, definitely jamaican influenced.

Let me highlight the flaws of this video. 0:57 I'm a big fan of Akala's music and wisdom. Akala is an intelligent man but he doesn't even know what Patois is... I'm a 15 year-old white middle class English-Irish kid who was born and raised (still being raised) in one of the better-ish areas of London and I know that Patois is a combination of languages used by slaves in the Caribbean so that they could all understand each other and work efficiently. It's a type of Creole, if you will - a verbal mashup of dialect. Now, then... Professor Green was born and raised in Hackney, one of the poorest areas of London where most people are living on the poverty line. White people like himself are a minority in Hackney, fact. The purpose of the jungle video is to highlight how the areas that he grew up in aren't glamorous, they're actually quite grim, frightening and riveting. Showing the gentleman in the coffin was merely to point out the fact that London's not all glamour and riches - people die from gang-related incidents and murder pretty much every day... He wasn't trying to highlight how Jamaicans are bad or whatever ridiculous propaganda Akala was trying to spread.

Akala appears to me as a intelligent guy, whos had some bad experiences in his and happenings to his family and so his view is quite biased on any racism I'd say. I understand his points but as you say your spot on, you also have to realise that most of the listeners of the song weren't remotely interested in the meaning of the lyrics, to them it just sounded good. The position hes felt hes being put is is from his growing up so I think he as a strong opposition to anything negative towards his race. The problem he has is he always brings racism up a lot and tries to make a situation out of it. I noticed that a lot of his songs bring up the past of racism which mostly has died down, but he still talks about it a lot, he always will refer as it being recent (within 20 years) but a lot has changed in that time. Some of his points of are very interesting indeed, and its fair history of this should be recorded and spoken about but he does have a personal grudge of his own.

+TehSho rtNoob Although that is a prevalent theory about how Creoles are created, there are other theories related to it that are quite convincing and demonstrate that they may be far more complex than just a linguistic mishmash. I don't know much about Akala's knowledge on Patois and other Creoles, but I'd be willing to wager he knows more than you're giving him credit for. Anyway, apart from that, this book is great, really interesting read from one of the leading scholars on Creoles. Check it out if you're interested in them. www.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=t3.gstatic.com/images%3Fq%3Dtbn:ANd9GcTF1NP2EFo29T0vbP7Kh0SmibqNmYP7-s1loHgTvMkr_A1U80kP&imgrefurl=books.google.com/books/about/Bastard_Tongues.html?id%3DmcAuAAAAYAAJ%26source%3Dkp_cover&h=648&w=432&tbnid=T6X_Sm9dBT_bjM:&tbnh=160&tbnw=106&docid=sYqY-a9TdKHzgM&itg=1&usg=__gAfYKCKsqKmOkeBnc99-n9DCvUY= As for Professor Green, when you say white people are a minority in Hackney, and then go on to say that it was that those areas are "grim" and "frightening", and the video depicts black people being violent with no context... Kind of seems like you and Professor Green are both saying black people are scary... Just saying.

Akala's acting like they're a couple of middle-class white kids, they were both born in Hackney and Prof Green grew up there, so it's his culture as well, why shouldn't he be able to make a rap vid about it, his colour is irrelevant.
@RandomPersonette10 жыл бұрын
Yes Prof Green is from Hackney but he still has the exemption clause of being white in a white country.That's just the reality of the situation.We all absorb and internalise racism,that's why critical thinking is so important.Prof Green may not be racist but the subtext are evident in Jungle.Also,there are plenty of white people in Hackney yet he chooses to glorify black on black violence.I think it's interesting.,
@jimipurple1237 жыл бұрын
TheBrujah87 pro green has never had the same culture and upbringing as any black man. As a white man he is a guest in black music and must respect it.

Elliott Griffiths no. All white people are guests in hip hop, rap and whatever other genre you want to name. Pro green and any other white rapper are guests and should not overstep themselves. Hence why Eminem knows his place and doesn't use the n word.
