AKBAR ALLAHABADI
Syed Akbar Hussain Allahabadi, better known as Akbar Allahabadi, was a prominent Indian Urdu poet renowned for his satirical verses. Born on November 16, 1846, in Qasba Bara, Allahabad district, Akbar Allahabadi's poetic genius revolved around mocking the cultural conflict brought about by the growing influence of Western British culture in India. He particularly aimed his sharp wit at those he deemed pseudo-westernized. His poetic prowess earned him the epithet "Lisanu'l-Asr" (Poet of the age) within the Indian community. Akbar's poetry reflected the moral, cultural, political, and psychological dispositions of the people living in Northern India during his time. His compositions blended elements of revolution, classical tradition, innovation, and meticulous creativity. Akbar Allahabadi was not only a traditionalist but also a revolutionary and reformer, highly regarded by both the commoners and elites of his era. His extensive vocabulary in Urdu poetry, second only to Mir Taqi Mir, showcased his linguistic skills. Akbar's work encompassed various poetic forms, from ghazal to rubai and qita, with his distinct fusion of styles and genres. He fearlessly unveiled the true faces of politicians and depicted women in a way that challenged the traditional conventions of Urdu poetry. Akbar's influence extended beyond humor; he left behind a rich poetic treasure that showcased novelty of thought, wit, eloquence, and incisiveness. His contribution to satirical literature in Urdu is unparalleled, making him an exemplar of humorous poetry. Akbar Allahabadi passed away on September 9, 1921, leaving a profound legacy that continues to inspire Urdu poets to this day.

غزل کا مکمل اردو متن:
دلِ مایوس میں وہ شورشیں برپا نہیں ہوتیں
امیدیں اس قدر ٹوٹیں کہ اب پیدا نہیں ہوتیں
مری بیتابیاں بھی جزو ہیں اک میری ہستی کی
یہ ظاہر ہے کہ موجیں خارج از دریا نہیں ہوتیں
وہی پریاں ہیں اب بھی راجا اندر کے اکھاڑے میں
مگر شہزادۂ گلفام پر شیدا نہیں ہوتیں
یہاں کی عورتوں کو علم کی پروا نہیں بے شک
مگر یہ شوہروں سے اپنے بے پروا نہیں ہوتیں
تعلق دل کا کیا باقی میں رکھوں بزمِ دنیا سے
وہ دل کش صورتیں اب انجمن آرا نہیں ہوتیں
ہوا ہوں اس قدر افسردہ رنگِ باغِ ہستی سے
ہوائیں فصلِ گل کی بھی نشاط افزا نہیں ہوتیں
قضا کے سامنے بے کار ہوتے ہیں حواس اکبرؔ
کھلی ہوتی ہیں گو آنکھیں مگر بینا نہیں ہوتیں

dil-e-māyūs meñ vo shorisheñ barpā nahīñ hotīñ
umīdeñ is qadar TūTīñ ki ab paidā nahīñ hotīñ
mirī betābiyāñ bhī juzv haiñ ik merī hastī kī
ye zāhir hai ki maujeñ ḳhārij az dariyā nahīñ hotīñ
vahī pariyāñ haiñ ab bhī raajā indar ke akhāḌe meñ
magar shahzāda-e-gulfām par shaidā nahīñ hotīñ
yahāñ kī auratoñ ko ilm kī parvā nahīñ be-shak
magar ye shauharoñ se apne be-parvā nahīñ hotīñ
ta.alluq dil kā kyā baaqī maiñ rakkhūñ bazm-e-duniyā se
vo dilkash sūrateñ ab anjuman-ārā nahīñ hotīñ
huā huuñ is qadar afsurda rañg-e-bāġh-e-hastī se
havā.eñ fasl-e-gul kī bhī nashāt-afzā nahīñ hotīñ
qazā ke sāmne be-kār hote haiñ havās 'akbar'
