I still have a Virtual Boy that I got in summer of 1997! That thing was a lifesaver that summer since my grandma died and my mom was recovering from thyroid cancer surgery, so that's pretty much all myself, my brother and my cousin did to keep our spirits up. We even solved the bad posture problem by laying down on our backs and letting gravity do the work. We also had Warioland, Mario Clash and Mario Tennis, which were great, and then we also played Nester's Funky Bowling (the only time I will ever score a 280 in my life) and Teleroboxer, which was the absolute worst. We must have went through so many AA batteries before finally getting the ac adapter, and it's probably the reason why my eyesight is so bad nowadays, hmmm...

Wow, I'm surprised that the level of quality for the sample of games you had was so high! I've always heard only bad things about the Virtual Boy, so it's nice to see some of its redeeming aspects.

This is a very properly done review! I agree that VB Wario Land needs to see a re-release. It shares similarities with the first game that I like while bringing a lot of new and creative ideas to the table. The only real flaw that game has is the very same-ish music.

I actually had one of these growing up, and I really love it VB Wario Land and Panic Bomber are among my favorite games, and I really enjoy Mario Clash and Mario's Tennis. I also really think the controller is well designed and super comfortable, I especially like the round shoulder Buttons. I also feel that the double D-pad thing was a nice precoursor to dual analog,even if few games utilised it.

I think that the biggest reason why the Virtual Boy was Nintendo's all time failure was the bad handling of the console. The console had bad coloring choices, expensive pricing for consumers to buy, and the long impact it had on the consumer playing the console.

I played for an hour with no problems. People bashing it probably never played it, and if they did they Did they probably didn’t get their eyes adjusted to the dark first. Also it helps not to come straight from the VB game play into a bright lit room. :)

This was my first console. Had Mario Tennis, a robot boxing game, and pinball I think. It was the Trojan horse my dad used to get video games into the household.

It would have been cool if Nintendo made Virtual Boy games a secret unlockable in Labo VR. Missed opportunity there.

Actually, the reason that they went back to only having A and B (as far as the N64 goes, anyway) was actually because before the controller had been designed, the games being developed for the N64 were tested with a Saturn controller, and since that controller had six buttons and the directional buttons were a necessity, it meant that the A and B buttons were tge only two buttons they could have (aside from the previously mentioned D-buttons) due to the button layout having to be the same as the Saturn controller since the games that were being developed had been built around such a layout.

I could see Virtual Wario Land and Mario Clash on the 3DS, but that's about it for the games you reviewed. Played the game in stores back in the day, as well as a bit of it at my friend's house. It didn't hold our attention very long, and we went back to other games shortly after. Interesting curio, though.

I would recommend getting an oculus quest 2 or pc vr headset and try a virtual boy emulator.

You won't be playing it for 4 hours straight because you'd have to deal with a skinny - no eyes but bumps - curved legged - demon thing and you'll go from color blind to actually going blind.
