Hi thanks for watching this #headphonereview don't forget like to like comment and subscribe! let me know what you want me to review next!
After using these for about 1 year I can say they are probably the most versatile closed back headphones for #diy #homeproduction for under £/$200. They seem to shine with #tracking and #mixing The 3 cables, foldable design and metal yolks with 1.2 lbs of clamp force makes this pair of headphones feel, comfortable secure and durable. They sound remarkably flat and with a low #impedance they can be used in plenty of different applications as well as with different listening systems. The right driver failing was unfortunate and seems like a design flaw is the K371's Achilles heel. With an extended warranty on amazon I imagine they might be worth it, but to be sure I reevaluate the #audiotechnica ATHM50 and #beyerdynamic DT770 headphones

I bought Beyer Dynamic 770s a few years ago and the clamping force was so heavy my TMJ went pain city after all of five minutes. The 371's arrive tomorrow.; replacing broken Senn 569s, which sound great.

the thing about "fold-able" or "portable" items are they're prone to issues. i wish AKG would bring out a non-foldable version of these with larger earcups! i've had my 371's for a few months now, and they go nowhere! i just set them to my size and they go from my head to a shelf when not in use. they are the best hp's i've ever used for studio work, and i plan to keep them alive for a long time!! you might benefit from the more robust (and more expensive!) DT 1770 pro. which to my ears sound damn near identical to these.

I have K361, which, of course, snaped on a side, where the plastic gets thinner. I glued them together and reinforced that side with an old cut-up credit card. I did the same on the other side as well. While butchering them, I managed to snap the tiny cable placed in the folding mechanism. When I opened the other cup, I noticed I wasn't far from destroying those cables just by using them as intended. I ended up replacing the wires in both cups. All wires now bypass the folding mechanism. I can still fold them, but the cables don't break anymore. It was a chore, but now I have a working pair of headphones.

Time is more important than money and it's non-refundable so your ROI is weak with the cheaper product.

@@Diogenes77 It was a fun project. I still use them. AKG has to get it together, though.

I'm tracking my voice through the k371's. Got them just a week ago. So far they're resembling an accurate tone and shape of sound as my abacus c-box 3's when mixing. Just less detail and more harsh, which is to be expected at this price difference imo. The only small caveat is a somewhat mild underrepresentation between 200 and 500hz, which could be my room treatment not fully finished, or something else I'm missing. I'm figuring out an easy way to EQ for direct monitoring on macos right now. If I can correct that small detail, I'll keep them. They're giving me a good enough reference to play around with my voice and tone, besides the wonky lower mids/upper bass. edit: found that the underrepresentation to be their bad passive soundstage. It makes them sound clean, but dry and lacking virtual space/room. Which is perfect for me in my homerecording environment. What little difference there is, I have to EQ anyways. So they're basically giving me a more dry sound, than my environment allows to, yet I still end up mixing towards. Quite good actually. Haven't tested the others you mentioned, I kept the AKG without testing further. All the necessary information when tracking my voice with them is there. Thanks for the video!

I subscribed to encourage your KZfaq journey, because videos that are based on practicality and some precious gems, even the best of the reviews just talk without actually using each product then tell us. Some famous KZfaq call DMS like the Michael Jackson of headphone reviews esp audiophile he really bashed the AKG 371. When I looked at the comments hearing people who actually use it, said no they loved it and its not DMS was saying. If only DMS did actually try to use it a studio setup and especially comparing then 1000 percent I will believe. but you here are actually doing recordings with it, not just trying to talk about the headphone for the sake of reviews. You see where there is a huge market for videos liek your. This could lead to companies sending roducts, but never forget to actually use them and especially comparing then tell the viewers. this way you blow up really fast on KZfaq

IMO, DT770 is the best long term daily runner. Why? 1) It feels like a proper home speaker strapped to your head: rich bass, clear mids and crisp highs and all this in a single pair of phones at once. 2) Lifetime tight mount (doesnt get loose with time), yet super tender and comfortable SOMEHOW. 3) Durability and repairability: metal chassis and caveman-grade plastic, all can be disassembled. headband and ear cushions are completely replaceable. For home listening with your computer im very biased towards DT770, but speaking about M50x...it has wireless version and this is exactly what portable listeners want from full-size phones.

I have the DT700 Pro X set. They are definitely in the same camp as the K371s. Similar tunings but the DT700s have a much higher quality driver and a much better build quality.

This review was excellent. I know you are speaking just from your experience. I would be curious if you have the opportunity to try out the Rode 100 headphones. I am a voice actor and accuracy, durability and comfort are always what I am trying to balance. Some sessions are more dynamic, others hours recording. This gave a lot of insight with these. Thanks so much

Hey! thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you like the review. I haven't tried the Rode 100 headphones, but they seem to be in this price vs performance area. Although I haven't tried them I did some research and found a few things out; The Rode 100 headphones are closed back, which is ideal for voice acting, and limiting noise interference from the headphones in the microphone you use; The sound profile seems fairly neutral which is useful; the clamp force is rated at 1 pound, which I consider ideal because it is very versatile to many different head sizes (especially comfortable for someone like me with a 60 cm circumference head); the cable is detachable and also 3.5mm, which is also very useful - especially since it it such a common connector (unlike the 371 3 pin mini xlr which, although replaceable, is not as widely available/ affordable); you seem to get a lot of (similar) accessories with the headphones (carrying case (maybe not as nice), extra cables- cable organisers?!); according to rtings.com these headphones are also more durable / better built than the 371's; I just want to add that Rode tends to build high-quality things and offers excellent customer service, which I haven't found the same to be true with a AKG- for example, despite the AKG earpads being removable AKG does not offer replacement pads- Rode on the other hand does; Finally, the price; in the UK, you can find these headphones for about £80 which is less than the 371's by about £30. the pros: You pay less, get comparable features and accessories, decent performance, personally I would expect the build to be better and the warranty to be better too. the tradeoffs; the Rode sound profile is less neutral than the 371s; the Rode headphones don't fold up like the 371s making them slightly less portable; leak and isolation may not be as good on the 100s compared to the 371s. RE your use case, I'd say assuming you are using the Rode 100s just to track vocals and are not depending on them to mix they are probably excellent and offer better value the 371s. I would only tolerate questionable, build quality of the AKG 371 because of their neutral sound sound profile. Honestly, doing some research I might have to pick up a pair just to get an idea of how well they perform!

@@tbhv Wow what an excellent response! Thank you for this. Yes I am on that hunt for the most neutral sound to help provide a more accurate performance and not get distracted to how I sound due to the headphones adjusting here and there. I saw a few open box sales for some of the Sennheiser 280s and a few other headphones drastically dropping the prices so might just start testing. Your input is very helpful too I am going to see if I can find a friend with a pair now too so I can give a listen. Thanks!

Why you videos getting views is when you do videos that are practical, just like this one. Most people dont tell us based on usage they just this is bright, warm, little bass etc. But you are saying I used this and this headphone and here is my real life experience, That is something very incredible useful for those who wants to know about a product. But there is a headphone, I see could be one of the best studio headphone from my several months of research. Forget about what people say just try this and use it and see what you get. The Shure SRH 840A.

Have you considered the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro? I heard many great things about it, and I'm going to test it very soon. Along with the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms and the AKG K-361. I currently have a DT 880 Edition 600 Ohms as my daily driver, which is too quiet and too open for tracking (which is why I'm looking for decent closed-back low-impedance headphones). Currently on my desk are two Superlux cans (HD 660 Pro and HD 662 F), and the AKG K-182. Only the HD 660 Pro (modelled after the DT 770 Pro) is decent, but a little too bright. The HD 662 F distorts easily and has annoying cable noise, the AKG K-182 sounds muddy, very uneven and unnatural in the mids, and has very dull treble.

Update: Now I had the HD 280 Pro, the DT 770 Pro, the AKG K-361 and the t.bone HD 815 (another DT 770 Pro knockoff) on my desk as well. Both the HD 280 Pro and the K-361 were far too lean sounding for my application. Very detailed, but mid-focused (especially the HD 280 Pro) without much width, depth and sparkle. The HD 815 had surprisingly great mids, but they were too bass-heavy and didn't have great treble (low-treble peak, very little detail and no air). I found that for practicing and recording bass, I don't want/need the most neutral sound but I prefer a little V-shaped tuning. The DT 770 Pro provide exactly that, still with a lot of clarity in the mids and mostly accurate timbre. Adding the rugged build and serviceability, I quickly made the decision to keep them.
