Nice to see someone reviewing a cheap (but not necessarily bad) headphone. These days KZfaq headphone reviewers hardly touch anything under £1000 and everyone is just eyeing at the true TOTL headphones which have more and more insane prices (£4-6000). I think a lot of people are interested in the sub £2-300 headphones and those hardly get any reviews, so well done Josh. My headphones are from the £600-1200 price range. I don't think I would ever spend more than that on a headphone unless I go stupidly rich one day. Also, for these expensive headphones you need to spend a similar amount of money on DACs and amps to truly make them sound good. Even though some low impedance LCDs for example theoretically sound good out of anything (and they definitely sound ok) Audeze recommends 1-4W power for all of them. And this is not an accident. These (and other) higher-end headphones come alive with proper amping. Anyway, thanks for focusing on budget gear too. I think it is good for the hobby. More chaps get sucked in which increases the market which makes manufacturers able to spend more on innovation which results in better sound for all of us. :)

These are the first pair of headphones that I truly fell in love with :). A few months ago I bought both the M220's and SHP9500 and I got to say that the AKG's have been much nicer to my ears and the SHP's are hidden in a drawer. It's interesting to hear your opinion about the rather lacking bass response and highs being so crisp they are almost sibilant. Like many people I modded my pair with Beyerdynamic velour pads (T1 in my case) and the character has changed quite a bit in a way that is enjoyable to me, with the bass getting very precise and a bit more going on in the highs, so the sound seems to be wider and more spacious. I highly encourage you to try that if you have some Beyerdynamic pads laying around. Overall my gear acquisition syndrome has been satisfied for now and I'm able to deeply enjoy my music without thinking about any upgrades :).

Ha, I did the exact opposite, on a the FiiO amp, the Phillips are less fatiguing and clearer to my ears. Also rotate between the Senns 599Se and Beyerdynamics 770 pro 80ohms. These are the set I bring to the office. Like them though, no buyers regret.

The K240 ‘Studio’/M220 is definitely the more intimate sounding of the K701/K702/K7XX/K712 series (I own & love them all). I listen to a lot of orchestral music and to offer an analogy, the M220 is like listening with your ears positioned where the microphones are, while the K7XX series sound more like one’s positioned where the conductor is, or among the first rows of the audience. Tonality is very similar. Bass is restricted in the M220 to what you’d expect to hear from acoustic instruments.

I'm very happy that you're talking about imaging in frequency ranges vs "in general". It's one of those things where I feel like the accuracy of the image varies on the combination of the track and the sound sig of the headphone (example, my sharper AD700s have super accurate imaging in the highs, but my Argons have better imaging in the mid-range and bass).

I’m sorry if someone has asked this question already or he already had answered it in the video, but what’s the differences between Akg m220 and AKG m240? M240 are more popular and they have similar prices, does one have better sound signature or better sound stage? I haven’t done too much research but I’m really conflicted to buy which one.

I noticed these where very light and durable (I dropped them a few times and they still worked perfectly fine). I found them very focused in the upper and mid ranges while sevearly lacking in the low end. There's not really any clamp, and the pads aren't good. I'd strongly suggest a pad swap for comfort if nothing else. Also, cable is really long for portable use, so finding a decent mini-xlr is harder to find then an aux cable.

I am owner of SR850 and Superlux 668b, used first for 6 years, and second for 2 years. I can confirm already, that SR850 are more quality in sound from 668b, despite the fact, on the internet you often find, like they use same drivers etc. No, trust me, SR850 have better sound. The differance is not big thought. As SR850 usually costs 2x more, I would say Superlux are better buy. Superlux are disturbing bright, so those highs are even more disturbing then SR850. Sr850 highs are disturbing too, but not so much. Would definetly like to hear these and compare them, but unfotunately, reason I have those two headphones are, that I'm on the budget. Those SR850 stood 6 years of usage, before they got loose, and would need repair. It would be easy for some audiophile, but for me not, so I rather bought Superux. As Im on budget, I cannot afford AKG M220 or MK240 etc.. but I would be suprised if they were SO much better from superlux, that it is worth 3x price. Superlux can be bought around 20, AKG around 60. There is already Superlux EVO version, with better velour pads, and 2 cables, and detachable cable. These are now sweet spot I would say. But again, I didn't have AKG M220, would definetly try them, but 60$ is already too much for "budget" headphones. I would rather spare that money on something else, or, rather pay more for Sennheiser HD598 or HD600.

Also they are not as powerful as I thought it gets distorted with an aorus b550m so it doesn't need an amp Edit: okay so I don't know anything about sound but I remembered about the equalizer so I used the one integrated with realtek twitched a bit the settings and now it definitely sounds like what I expected and way more powerful, out of the box they sound cheap but they need an equalizer preset and its so good I hope this helps anyone

As much as I want to feel byers remorse, I cant. The driver number markings on these are 2606/50, which are same as akg 240 mkll. Those are and have been glorified studio monitors, didn't hear em, but I do feel m220 as that. Its really easy to follow and analyze sound you're listening. And thats where things are interesting, on 58x it takes about 5sec to get myself immersed into their hugging an addictive reproduction of music, vocals, develop a blissful smile and forget that concept of time exists, but these... As Josh said, clean, bright, wide, awesome... But no yellow horse effect. For me. Even with bass boost on amp, sound gets richer, fuller, sweater, but that monitoring quality "look fool, ama gonna make you analyze this s*it all over da place" still remains. That is great for focusing, editing and (multiplayer) gaming, sure. But not everyones tin of beverage. Slapped brainwavez xl velour mem foam on, muuch better comfort. And yet no addiction.
