That's just about every Capcom title these days that didn't. Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers and Power Stone are three others I could think of that could use proper revivals.

I never knew about it at the time, and even game magazines called both discs having the complete “arcade mode” on it as a “feature” that allowed you to give the disc to a friend so they could practice and play better with you. 🤣🤪 Little did we realize that was where the sim mode would have gone if not removed. And I suppose it kinda made sense to remove it at the time: weird Japanese-centric games like dating sims were not even niche in the West at the time, and to spend time and money translating it (and given the QA of English translations then, likely it wouldn’t have been great) probably wouldn’t have been prudent. Now, though, with not only dating sims from around the world being very popular and even Capcom finding global success with the Ace Attorney franchise? This would have been a PERFECT opportunity to translate it, bring it out not long after Akira’s announcement last year, and boom! an entire year to get to know and experience this forgotten franchise! I mean why NOT do this? Not enough time or resources? They simply didn’t think of doing it? They didn’t want a superior story/arcade modes to compete against SFV’s poor story/arcade modes? Just REEKS of self sabotage like with Darkstalkers Resurrection.

Hopefully Akira’s inclusion in SFV is an indication that they are keeping an eye on Rival Schools for the future.

It also has character creation. Don't how I did it, but I got my character to learn Daigo's one move where goes hard body and no sells some punches before hitting back.

Perfect Capcom arcade fighter. Amazing art, awesome animations, evolving combo system, plenty of great characters, and near infinite playing styles for team AND solo combat. Like seriously…EVERY Capcom fighter after this could’ve benefited from what this game laid down.

This kind of story mode is definitely better than the usual arcade run and then a slide show at the end, at least there's some dialogues between matches. I still prefer the nertherreal way tho, a literal story with cutscenes and etc.. It can be weird, like Johnny Cage and Sonya fighting to death because Johnny acted like a dumb ass? Sure... but it is what it is

I think we didn’t got rival schools collection re-release because it’s have some license issues. I think in The first game have an ad for a japanese bank in the class stage. In Project Justice you have a billboard ad for capcom vs snk with a kyo kusanagi cameo in the stadium stage. And yeah that’s a crime capcom didn’t re-release the games but we still getting freaking street fighter 2 for the billion time

Was “Rival Schools 2” the visual novel or a updated version of the first game?

@@spicy767 Yes, it was an updated version of the 1st release. It got updated UI and a couple new characters as well. It however, ditched the Story Mode. You can play the Arcade Mode tho

We in the West didnt get the high school sim mode of the second disc (Evolution Disc) of the first game as it was ripped out, so all we had were the mini games of the Evolution disc. Whereas in Japan, the original first game of 1997 had a visual novel like high school sim story mode on the second disc on top of the already story mode/arcade mode of the first disc So when the second game in Japan came out (in 1999), it expanded on that VN high school sim mode even further and added like 2 new characters afaik; so it revamped the original game. With that, some say 'its a sequel to the Evolution disc' of the first game; but again seeing as how there's literally a 2 in the title. its pretty apparent they meant it as a true sequel. The Japanese name the Dreamcast/Arcade game was "Burning! Justice School" or whatever. No "2" in the title at all. Its kinda like "Art of Fighting 3". That wasnt meant to be the official third Art of Fighting game; it was actually called Gaiden in Japan (which means "side story") We knew how this kinda thing works sometimes with localizations. Like how we all got "Final Fantasy III" for SNES when it was really "Final Fantasy VI" (because FF III, IV and V hadnt been localized yet in the West back then)
