Thanks for helpful video. I just unplugged the sensor so didn’t have to worry about revolutions and it easier to get out of the way. I also just removed the dB killer and it sounds much better. deeper tone and not annoyingly loud. I would recommend taking dB killer out, can always put it back in.
@SJMudTurtleCruises4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can just unplug the O2 sensor, but I chose the other way...lol! I haven't tried taken out the db killer, since the pipe has broken in, it has gotten louder and not sure if I want it even louder without the db killer. It might sound good now but as it breaks in you might end up putting the db killer back in...lol! Thank you for commenting and ride safe! SJ

I’ve seen your videos since 2019 when I also got the ninja 650 (same model). You inspired me and I finally decided to make the move... so, I just got the Akrapovic full system titanium exhaust delivered and it’s just like yours. This is my first time doing this and the instructions mention the catalytic converter but there wasn’t one included in the box.. is the cat-converter something that should’ve been included or is it not necessary? Thank you so much for everything you do. VERY inspiring and VERY helpful (to say the least). Lots of appreciation from my end🙏🏻
@SJMudTurtleCruises3 жыл бұрын
That is awesome! If you got the same exhaust I got it didn't come with a cat! Mine is full racing! Now it could be the instructions have a miss print, but look at my unboxing video of the exhaust and you will see everything that came with mine. There was no cat included. Thank you for your awesome support! I really do appreciate it and you for taking the time out of your day to watch lil old me! 💚💚💚

Did anyone here notice that changing the exhaust did anything to the engine vibrations through the bars? Better or worse?

I haven't noticed any difference!

I think my yoshimura sounds better. But good job on changing that exhaust it’s a life saver

I was assuming for akaprovic to sound better than yoshimura considering that it cost more . I have the same bike in black . I love the yoshimura. Ride safe brother

One of the problems with video is the sound never accurately captures the true sound. If you heard it in person you might change your mind. Trust me the sound on the video is nothing like in person! PS that would be ride safe sister...lol!

Have you heard both of them in person ? Is the yoshimura just as loud if not louder than Akrapovic ?

This video was very helpful and I think it’s going to make my install much easier. But I do have 1 question, did the spring puller come with the exhaust or is it a separate purchase?
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
The spring puller did not come with the exhaust ( it should have). I had to purchase the spring puller, I purchased it off Amazon. Thank you for commenting and ride safe!

Great video I have a question did you add a power commander
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
I did not add a power command nor did I have the ECU flashed. Akrapovic states this exhaust is basically a plug and play no need to add a power command or have the ECU flashed. For me I have had no problems. Thank you for commenting and ride safe!

Just wanna get an update, still running it without any tunes or power commander? How’s it holding up?
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
Yes still running it without any tune or power commander or a high flow air filter. It seems to be doing pretty well no complaints or problems. Although as the exhaust is breaking in it is getting a wee bit louder and I do have the db killer in! Thanks for commenting!
@Penafort5 жыл бұрын
Does that exhaust model include catalytic converter? if not did you had to remap the bike to have no errors in the dashboard?
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
No the exhaust does not come with a catalytic converter and according to Akrapovic you do not need to remap, flash or add a power commander to the bike, they claim it will run just fine with the stock ecu. I have not done anything ( remap, flash or power commander )to the bike and it runs just fine with no issues.
@kaushikdasmusic94604 жыл бұрын
Hi greetings from India, I have the same model , do I need to remap if I go for this exhaust ? And what about the air filter? Please respond . Regards
@SJMudTurtleCruises4 жыл бұрын
I did not remap or put on an air filter or a power commander. Akrapovic says plug and play which it is. You don't need to do anything to the bike. Thank you for commenting and ride safe. SJ

Hi, I´d like to share some comments (I ride a 2018 Z650) - I installed exactly the same exhaust, without tune or power commander or high flow filter and I noticed two things: gas milleage went down (15% worse) and the dB killer is NOT removable (although it has a screw, the screw is welded... I managed to break the weld and remove the screw, but the dB killer is stuck, won't come off). And now the exhaust pops and crackles a lot when downshifting. Did you notice anything similar?
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
I have not tried to take out the db killer yet but it did say is was removable, if I ever take it out I will let you know how it goes. As far as gas mileage, before the exhaust install I got 70mpg max after the install the highest is 66.9 mpg if I'm a good girl lol but I average between 62 - 64 mpg. Sometimes on downshifts I will get decel pops but not always. Thank you for commenting and ride safe! SJ
@eduardopereira50005 жыл бұрын
Great, thanks for the mileage confirmation. The use of a hi-flow filter will possibly make it better. As for the dB killer, I will try to have it removed at another exhaust service. Ride safe!
@upmineandyours6 жыл бұрын
that one is a little different then mine ...mine you cant take out the db killer...good job ride safe
@SJMudTurtleCruises6 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the db killer doesn't come out?? I thought at first mine didn't then I saw the plug that you pull out to take out the screw. Thank you and ride safe as well!
@upmineandyours6 жыл бұрын
nope no plug on mine
@upmineandyours6 жыл бұрын
also are you going to do a power commander on yours?
@upmineandyours6 жыл бұрын
mine also had carbon fiber on mine...
@SJMudTurtleCruises6 жыл бұрын
Probably not going to do a power commander, I'm not a fan of piggy back systems. If I do anything, I would re-flash the ECU but I would purchase a new oem ECU, flash that and keep the stock ECU in a safe place.

Great bike! I test drove the Z650 and Z900 couple of weeks back and totally fell in love with the Z650! It had an akrapovic exhaust on it as well, yours did sound a bit louder though.. Did you use the catalytic converter?
@SJMudTurtleCruises6 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! You will love the Z650!! No I did not use the catalytic converter. Most full exhaust systems eliminate the catalytic converter. This is a full racing exhaust which is not suppose to be used on the street "wink wink" that is probably why it is louder than the one on the Z650.
@Hinjima926 жыл бұрын
Ah! That's the racing one, then I understand why it's a lot louder. Here in Europe we need Euro 4 homologation / approval with a catalytic converter and DB killer installed for it to be road legal, and most exhaust manufacturers make full systems with catalytic converters now! But they also make louder racing non street legal systems that sound a lot better:) I will definitely buy the z650 next year, I am a shorter rider and the bike was perfect! I could flatfoot both sides while riding it and it felt amazing and the torque was very good. Stay safe out there, and enjoy the new sound of your bike!

I just bought this bike last week, is a tune necessary after exhaust install? Will riding it without one for a couple months ruin my bike? I kinda wanna go the same route and get a new ECU’s but they’re just as expensive as the exhaust itself.
@SJMudTurtleCruises6 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the new Bike!! I will be posting a video later today that includes this subject. Akrapovic claims for this exhaust and for my bike you do not need a tune.

Hi, I'm Italian and I couldn't understand why you turned the Oxygen sensor (or lambda) that way I explain my question better, why did you unscrew the sensor from the muffler and then make it do those 6 (7) revolutions without screwing?
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
When removing the oxygen sensor, normally you would unplug the sensor from the connector to avoid twisting the wire when you unscrew and screw it back in. What I did was instead of having to remove fairings to disconnect the oxygen sensor from the connection plug, I counted the number of revolutions it took to unscrew the sensor. Yes this will twist the wire which is why when I screwed in the oxygen senor I counted again the same number of revolutions to screw it back in so the wire would untwist. So if it took 7 revolutions to unscrew the sensor, when screwing the sensor back in you should only do 7 revolutions. In the video it showed me untwisting the sensor so I could let it hang while we changed the exhaust. What I didn't show in the video ( due to editing) was me replacing the sensor, using the same technique I used to unscrew the sensor, which meant before screwing the sensor back in I had to twist the wire counter clockwise 7 revolutions prior to screwing the sensor back into the exhaust so that the wire would untwist to the original position while I was screwing back in the sensor using the 7 revolutions it took to unscrew the sensor. The whole point of this is to get the oxygen sensor wire back to it's original position that it started at. I hope this answered your question! Thank you for commenting! SJ

Here`s a couple of questions for ya.... after putting the exhaust on have you found that the bike gets hotter quicker or have you had it dynoed? What screen do you have? as i find Im getting alot more wind noise on the 650 than any of my other bikes, anything over 50mph makes it hard for comms
@SJMudTurtleCruises5 жыл бұрын
Ok! I haven't noticed the bike running warmer than before the exhaust change. I will say with the stock exhaust the bike was prone to running a bit warm in hot weather. I haven't had it dynoed at this point. I haven't read the spark plugs either. I do leave the DB killer in and have observed no flat spots in fueling. Akrapovic claims no tune is needed for this exhaust. So far from what I am seeing the bike isn't running lean. I am running the stock wind screen and like you have the same noise issue above 50 mph. As always, thanks for commenting!

Installed my exhaust a couple days ago, the 02 sensor like yours was short, did you leave your o2 sensor wire on the oil pan and did you experience any issues from the oil pan heating up on the rubber around the wire. Will it melt it or cause issues ? Also did you use a power commander or anything since the install? And lastly did you remove the silencer and if you did which do you prefer silencer or no silencer and was it a lot louder without the silencer?
@SJMudTurtleCruises6 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the new exhaust!!! If you look at the instructions, Akrapovic tells you how to reroute the O2 sensor which is exactly what I did per their instructions. I have had no issues with the wire being on the oil pan. I have not put on a power commander or anything else nor have I flashed the ECU. I am thinking about changing the air filter but not sure when. I have not removed the silencer so not sure how much louder it would sound. I can imagine it would be extremely loud since with the silencer in it's pretty loud and as the muffler continues to break in it will only get louder.
