One of the best parts of this classic show is that the insults were most often returned right back to the insulter. No character ever got away unscathed. This video is Al's best, and they're great, but it doesn't quite show the retorts. Bud and Kelly's jabs were famously two-sided.

It was a prime time show, and was considered pretty edgy for the time, but this worked to the show's benefit and it became more popular after a group called for a boycott. You don't really see jokes like this on live-action TV anymore, but generally, you can still get a lot of crude humor from adult cartoons. Rick and Morty, Family Guy, South Park, American Dad. I think the general consensus these days is to make fun of everyone instead of singling out any particular group of people. That's how shows like South Park have been able to stick around for so long, despite the social climate changing.

There’s no way this show could be made today. However, it’s important to remember that the character of Al was a loser at life who’s only glory was as a high school football player, so these were his brief moments to try to put someone else down, but usually the episodes would end with it coming back to bight him.

Not on basic cable at least, but You could definitely get away with a show like this on something like HBO, Starz, or Showtime. The also gorgeous Katey Sagal (Peg Bundy) was the voice of Leela in Futurama as well as playing Gemma Teller Morrow on the series Sons of Anarchy. It's quite unfortunate that "modern society" has become overly-sensitive to the point that this type of humor is no longer "acceptable". "I can't see me as a kid at 11 or 10 watching this" We all watched it at that age because of Kelly Bundy (Christina Applegate), but we all watch reruns as adults for the wit and jokes of Al Bundy

I named my dog Peggy, because she had puffy hair like Peggy Bundy. Also, the actress is in Sons Of Anarchy.

You guys missed the joke at about the 5:44 min mark, Al is constantly referring to Marcy as a Chicken. Hence the reason he asked "why did you cross the road" is a play on why did the chicken cross the road... Just thought I'd catch you folks up on the humor...

One of the best comedies of the late 80s-90s. It built the Fox network along with the Simpsons and X-Files…turning Fox from the fourth Network to the powerhouse it is today.

I used to watch this show on one of the US main 20 channels back in the mid to late 90s. I was born in 89 so I couldn't have been more than in range of 8-12 when it was running on replay... to me it is one of those symbolic generational things that instantly brings you back to that simpler and more familiar era in your life, so it has a lot of sentimental value and brings a level of comfort. I loved the Dog, Buck... and the loser boy, Bud. Hated the neighbor lady... resented Peggy... they played their parts well! Christina Applegate was a babe... yep!

Married With Children was much more vulgar than anything on the three major networks, which is what gave it something of an edge. It took a while for it to find an audience, but Fox stuck with it and it did. And interestingly, it's the show that broke Ted McGinley's streak of destroying TV shows. He had previously destroyed Happy Days, The Love Boat, and Dynasty. But Married With Children actually got better with McGinley.

That's funny because in America on one of the only two channels I could get with my TV antenna, as a very young kid maybe nine or 10 I was watching married with children at 10:00 PM after my early rising parents went to bed. I would pretend to go to bed and then get up and watch married with children. I'd like to think it had a great influence on the type of person I am today 😂😂

Your channel just gained so many points in my book. A ton of thoughts. First off this is an amazing show that was on the air for an amazing amount of time. It's an example of a show that is entirely tongue in cheek and comedic without even a moment of anything but comedy. Other shows that try to make you laugh add a romantic angle or a emotional situation. This is raw simple witty adult humor and the acting is underrated and never got its proper credit because of its crass nature. It's not going to happen but I just highly highly recommend you find a different video. To give you an idea of what I'm saying this for, these clips are nearly entirely from the last few years when it was about done with ideas. However for many years it was not one fat joke over and over. The middle seasons of the show are some of the best comedy ever TV. All the witty stuff Al says in this clip would be the worst of the jokes from the former seasons. Side note... Marcy being a lesbian in real life and mocked endlessly for her look is one of the writers and executive producers of the show. Katey Segal has been on Futurama and Sons of Anarchy. Ed O Neill spent so many years as Al that he simply became Al. But managed to join one of the other most successful shows of all time Modern Family. Christina Applegate at the time was absurdly hot and played this bimbo idiot. But is the opposite in real life. Honestly you see that picture of Al with the sign? Watch the shows clips from that era.

For some reason I always think that no one outside the U.S. watches American television, so it's always a surprise to me when you guys are familiar with a show like this. I'm fairly young (33) so Married with Children was a show my parent watched after we went to bed and I never really watched it. I love seeing clips though and appreciate why my parents watched it all the time.
