I've been a fan of Al Di Meola for many years and he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, a true versatile master of the electric and acoustic guitars. For me his guitar playing helped shaped the classic sound of Return To Forever but he played a big role in their success and put them on the map as one of the all time iconic bands of the jazz fusion genre. I've seen him live with the Al Di Meola project, World Sinfonia and in a guitar duo, they were unbelievable shows and i was very lucky to not only meet him but get a photo with the man himself, he's a really cool guy and very chilled, a true legend and a real first class act on and off stage

I met Al back around 2010 and talk guitars. It was awesome and he is a great guy. Best player I’ve ever heard.

Remember him from the mid 70's - he's aging well - he's 64 ? And happy

He takes care of himself. Kind of like John McLaughlin - ageless wonders.

I love the guitar solo Al Di Meola plays on Paul Simon's Allergies track.

Hi Rick. Good interview with one of my favourite guitarists.

This is hilarious! The interviewer must have went to Doofus International School of Microphone Challenged Interviewers. Notice how every time he points the mic towards Al, Al cringes away! Too funny!! He's practically shoving the mic down Al's throat!!

Maybe one day, you'll think to have more than one mic to conduct the interview 🤦🏻♂️ great interviews with the greats deserves more than a cheap wired mic. But I do thank you for the material.

No doubt. Saw Di Meola in 1980..literally 40 years ago and he's got twice as much hair now as then.

@@charliehaze9952 Me too. I remember during that period he was balding and now he has a head FULL of hair. I think he had a very expensive hair transplant.

I'd like to see him in another acoustic setting. Since Paco passed away he's a serious contender for the classic guitar crown.
@LinusFeynstein4 жыл бұрын
He is a jazzer and fusion rock guitarist, and Paco was a flamenco guitar player. None of the two are classical musicians in the sense of Haydn and Mozart. They are very, very classy, that is true.

I totally understand Al wanting to be a surgeon. I travel for a living, and don't make the money I want when I don't. The same with the music industry. Everything is free online now, the only way you can make money is go on tour. Tour schedules are extremely brutal. Every night a different city. Could be 1000 miles away. Try doing this when you are in your 70s. The biggest crime is watching someone who has little or no talent becoming super rich overnight. Then a guy like Al is superhuman talented, makes less. I guess the masses don't have musical taste. When staying in Germany I was surprised by all of his fans there. When I ask a German who the best guitarist in the world is, they tell me that it's Al Dimeola and everyone knows this.

Look at Al's body language leaning to the left like he doesn't quite wish to be there, though he is a brilliant composer and guitarist !

He seems annoyed.. And look at his body language he's leaning away. Looks like he really doesn't wanna be there.

I must be really stupid and or really ignorant, how can you run a successful guitar channel with questions and demeanor like these? There's gotta be something else or my frame of reference is upside down!
@hamishmac1006 жыл бұрын
Would be great if the interviewer actually asked him about his creative process , his music vocab i.e. scales, harmony rhythm ( particularly his rhythm ! ), his work ethic etc.. instead of just fanboying it out. A totally wasted opportunity - bummer !
@lwmson6 жыл бұрын
You can tell that DiMeola has become disillusioned with the current recording industry, largely because much of the recorded music today, like his, is being streamlined via internet, which of course cuts out profits for musicians.
@jon1982.2 жыл бұрын
The man speaking to Al could have put some more time in to his pre-interview shit. Al is a beautiful musician and music fanatic, he deserves better than this ill-researched interrogation!

When you discover how an amazing guitarist can be so boring 😂
@reidwhitton62485 жыл бұрын
Guitarists won't learn anything from this channel. The host knows nothing about music so he can't ask any pertinent questions.
