A Visit to Al Madam Ghost Village.
Looking at the epic Dubai skyline with the dominating Burj Khalifa, it’s difficult to comprehend that not too far from the city is a mysterious ghost village gradually being reclaimed by the desert. There is no definitive explanation of why the village was abandoned in the first place! And today we are going to take a close look at this creepy place in the middle of the desert.
About a year ago I came across an Instagram post of this half buried ghost town found in an area called Al Madam about 65km from Dubai and have constantly been thinking of exploring it. Now there are several blogs about this place and social media has made it much more popular Bringing people from all over the globe to explore this interesting place.

One theory is that the village could have been a part of a housing project by the United Arab Emirates government to provide the Bedouin population with well-constructed settlements. In case you don't know, Bedouin are arabic-speaking nomadic peoples of the Middle Eastern deserts
But considering the current state of the village, it seems like things didn’t go to plan. Some locals attribute the abandonment due to the lack of infrastructure and electricity, but there is also a more sinister reason.
A widely held belief behind the abandonment of the village is that the place is haunted by a notorious group of “djinns” - supernatural creatures that Muslims believe in that are said to possess places and people. Locals also believe that there is something mysterious in the sand that caused it to invade the houses, leading the locals to flee the village.
According to records, the village was built in the 1970s and since it was abandoned more than a decade ago and no one has concrete information about what and how it happened, this neatly planned outpost featuring two rows of homes and an elegant mosque that overlooks the town has been left to its fate.
As of now Al Madam ghost town sits untouched apart from the graffiti here and there and is just a popular tourist attraction for those looking for mysterious places and stories.Who knows what to come for this place but we didn't stay for the night to see if any djinn came by.
