"Do you believe in miracles?" I will never forget that line when I watched the USA-USSR hockey game in 1980, and it was on tape delay. Al Michaels could announce any sport and keep the viewer interested. He was great doing baseball.

I love hearing Al give McDavid some love. I’m Canadian and love hockey and Gretzky was my idol growing up. I love Wayne, but seriously, skill wise and speed, McDavid is probably the best I’ve ever seen. I live in Edmonton and am spoiled to be able to witness McDavids greatness. He’s not as accomplished as Wayne, but he’s the best hockey player I’ve ever laid eyes on.

He is unbelievable if you really watch him. He’s like Sergei Federov and Jagr had a baby or something. I hope they win the Cup this year.

Wayne Gretzky had anticipatory skills that I think made him great. He had great vision and could see steps ahead of the play. He was awesome with assists, showing how he got others involved to a greater degree than any player in history. Gretzky would end up in positions to score primarily because of his brains, not his speed and puck skills, though he clearly had those. McDavid doesn't seem to work that way. I admit I haven't seen as much of him, so I could be wrong. I would also put Mario Lemieux in there. There is an argument that Mario is the best, and then there is Bobby Orr. o

How could you not have Wilt in your top 5? While it's true he only won "two" cham[pionships, basketball is a team sport and Boston had 8 Hall of Fame players and the possibly the greatest coach/gm ever in Red Auerbach. No player ever averaged at least 30 points and 20 rebounds a game in a season except Wilt. Wilt averaged at least 30 and 20 for his CAREER. 🐐
@talbotdarrenАй бұрын
In addition to being I think the greatest individual basketball player of all time (72 records that still stand bear that out), Wilt was also an Olympic caliber track and field athlete, he played professional volleyball, and could have been a world champion power lifter. Pound for pound he was the greatest individual athlete who ever lived.

it’s kinda crazy how much the sports landscape has changed in the last 60 years, nowadays broadcasters will almost always prioritize calling a regular season nfl game even before calling a postseason mlb game

@pretzelhuntАй бұрын
@@markosekulic119 I'm not arguing for Kobe but there's no doubt it's debatable, all recentcy and nostalgia biases aside. Listen to two of the sports media greats, who spoke to both players, about that exact fact. Harder? 50/50. Tougher? Possibly, though Jordan never had to get Shaq to cooperate to win championships. Plus it's always harder when every player's attempting to follow exactly in Mike's footsteps. Mike also benefitted more from the Doneghy era than Kobe did. Just using Ring numbers is dumb and boring and myopic. Edit: sorry I forgot these, since ya'll are dumb and need emoji'ing in everything. 😂😂😆
