I'm sorry if any of the info in this section is incorrect as I was piecing it together from a few different places and needless to say, it was a chore fact-checking it, so any corrections are welcomed!
The Alabama Red Peppers could be considered a jazz supergroup of its day. with Mike Mosiello on trumpet, Andy Sannella on clarinet, alto sax and possibly steel guitar, Jimmy Dorsey on clarinet and alto sax, Charles Butterfield on trombone, and Arthur Fields providing the vocals. In other iterations of the band (or maybe this one!), they are joined by Tommy Dorsey, Leo McConville, and Miff Mole.
This is their take on "San", a song written by Lindsay McPhail and Walter Michels in December 1920 and originally recorded by Roy Bargy and the Benson Orchestra of Chicago on April 11, 1921. The Alabama Red Peppers obviously let the jazz rise to the top by time they recorded their version on January 2, 1928. What a way to bring in a new year!
