BTW you were right about the genie scenes - they DID let Robin WIlliams just let-er-rip, and had to animate around that. Apparently a nightmare for the animators at a couple of points -- for example, when Genie says "Exits are hereherehereherehereherehereand...here" - lol
@rebeccagibbs4128

it wasnt so much a nightmare for animators as the story people since they had so much stuff to choose from. The animator of Genie also did Maui's tattoos in Moana. He is incredibly gifted in that cartoony non verbal animation especially, more akin to the looney tunes rather than classical disney. Also a disabled artist too, which i love:)

27:38 Funny story; so, Disneyland did have a live stage musical of Aladdin couple years back before a Frozen one and we got to see it before it went and the actor playing the Genie was given so much freedom to add-lib his lines. So we get to this scene and the crowd started to Boo Aladdin and Genie did this: “… You hear that? Those are my Thoughts! You made that guy leave!” And finished off with ‘And your Happy about this?!” Because the actor playing Aladdin was laughing too. xD

Some fun facts about this movie: 1) Iago's appearance was based on the "ugliest actor in Hollywood" (wish I remembered his name), especially on his half-closed eyes and prominent teeth (this is why Iago has them). 2) The scene at the beginning was filmed like this: the creators gave Mr. Williams a big box filled with random stuff and covered with a sheet, then turned on the recording and removed the sheet, and gd began describing items that he saw for the first time ever. 3) Jasmine is the first non-European Disney princess. The creators thought it would be risky to introduce her, but eventually she was taken warmly. 4) When the sultan makes a tower out of toys, you can see the Beast figurine (Beauty and the Beast) among them. 5) After Mr. Williams's death the Movie Academy published a message on Twitter. It contained one phrase: Genie, you're free. Now that is respect

And their life is super hard. Because the ability to forget is a blessing. Just recall all those things you wish you could forget and can't, think that there is probably hundreds more that you have luckily forgotten. You'd have to live with them vividly in your memory forever. But sorry, like the gennie said, no refunds.

So nice that you reacted to this - one of Disney's greats. It fell out of favor some time after its release, due to a couple lines in the opening Robin Williams/vendor song that a small percentage of the audience took offense to post-9/11 and the (IMO mistaken) belief that letting those lines go unaddressed would lead to anti-Muslim hatred. DIsney solved this issue with the WIll Smith live-action version by just changing those lines.

Some fun facts about this one: 1) Not only did they let Robin Williams improve what he wanted; they ended up with over 8 hours of voice lines from him doing every joke and improv bit on the planet and then chose from there. 2) Admittedly, Aladdin and Jasmine don't tie the not for a while. There's a sequel and a TV show that happen before we see them end up together finally in the 3rd film (because everything totally goes according to plan in a land of adventure, danger, magic, and crafty thieves...)

There's a really good theory connecting this movie and Moana, with the massive crab dude being genies former master because he mentions a diamond in a rough and saying he wasn't always this glamourous as well as genie's lamp on his back in some shots of the musical number, plus genie comments that Aladdin is a lot smaller than his last master.

Originally The Peddler was going to be revealed being The Genie at the end of the movie but since the test audiences were applauding at the ending, the directors John Musker and Ron Clements thought "Oh they think 'this is the end'." so they replaced it with the Genie being the moon and the "Made you look!" joke. Aside from Robin Williams voicing The Peddler, if you look closely, you can spot many similarities, meant to harken that The Peddler was going to be The Genie.

There was a TV series exploring their "dating" yrs. It was actually a decent series with cool characters, villains, and plots. I watched it often along with other shows based on these disney movies/characters.

interestingly, i heard somewhere that robin williams was upset with disney after this movie, because he specifically asked them to not make the genie the focus of the advertising but then they did make him really prominent on all the posters and in the trailers and everything. so in the first direct-to-video sequel of aladdin, he doesn’t play the genie (instead the genie is played by dan castellaneta, best known for playing homer simpson). but then in the 3rd movie i guess they patched things up because robin williams came back to reprise his role.

In terms of wishes, I'd probably wish for: 1. The ability to transform into absolutely anything I want. 2. To know all there is to know. 3. To set him free. For a more selfish wish as my third, to be the wealthiest person in the world.

This one was my favorite as a kid, because I think it’s one of Disney’s greatest adventure stories. Once the TV series came out, I watched it religiously. Escaping the Cave of Wonders and the final showdown with Jafar are some of Disney’s greatest animated action-peril sequences. Only the Stampede in The Lion King has ever topped them, in my book. EDIT: “What would you wish for?” Easily the most challenging question to ask in this situation. Because even though THIS Genie is a nice guy and pretty straightforward with granting wishes, there are all too many stories of wishes going awry. Hence the classic phrase, “Be careful what you wish for.” But to answer your question, one of my wishes would be what I call “Perfect/Universal Communication.” The ability to speak in my primary language, and be heard in the recipient’s primary language. As well as the opposite (e.g., they speak in Chinese, I hear English). No more issues or misunderstandings from language barriers. And possibly not just limited to humans. What do you think? Wish #2, after watching how badly Aladdin messed up his re-introduction to Jasmine, would be the ability to completely understand women. You can roll your eyes if you want, but honestly, it’s something every male should aspire for.

I heard of a couple good ideas for wishes, one was every time u wanted to buy something the exact amount would be in ur pocket, then u don’t need to wish for a certain amount of money which could eventually run out, another is u would be average at everything, so no matter what u try to do u still succeed just not excel, u could find a cure for cancer or fly a plane or anything

Took my son & friends to see in theatre. They were 4. It remains their favorite. Robin Williams was phenomenal but broke with Disney because they did not honor his contract. The live action one with Will Smith is tastefully done with references to Robin woven through it, but there will never be another Genie but him in our minds. As an adult watching in 1992 I recognized alot of the "voices" such as Ed Sullivan, The Price Waterhouse Academy Award announcer and many other older throw back skits he used. Disney puts hidden jokes for adults watching these. My favorite is in Hercules when the rocks fell on the little demons they yelled " Someone call IX I I (911 in roman numerals). I love your reeactions

Wording wishes is so tricky with how they can be interpreted. I've thought about wishes before and I feel like I've focused on details to the extent where I'm like "I need a lawyer to keep things straight" lol. But seeing as genies are magical I'd at least be sure to clarify that they have to fulfill my wish as I see it in my head and not in some other way it could be interpreted, as that leaves nothing to the genie's imagination. But for starters I'd wish to have the master superpower of being able to have all superpowers whenever I wanted. That covers so many potential wants/needs. I'd never be in trouble if I got into a car accident in a blizzard because I'd have so many options. A tech wizard power to fix my car, or levitate it out of a snowbank. Start a fire for warmth. Or just teleport away. Depending on secretive you're trying to be with those powers. But for other non-superpower things I'd probably wish that my loved ones would never get sick or killed in an accident and that they'd always live to a ripe old age and die at a natural time, peacefully, in their sleep. Because true immortality, I think, would be a curse as friends you make or new love interests would get old and die while you just keep existing. And finally, I wouldn't wish for infinite money as that could draw attention from banks or whatever. And maybe this falls more into the first category of possible superpower... but I'd want the ability to manifest anything I can imagine out of thin air (and this is where I've thought about the lawyer aspect because what if there's actually a finite amount of matter in the universe and there's actually a delicate balance of matter and energy and creating matter out of nothing could destroy the universe... so I'd make sure to clarify "with no negative effects on the universe" and that's where "negative" could be interpreted in many ways so the first clarification of "as I see it in my head" comes into play lol). But you could just manifest whatever food you wanted. A nice new car. Need a new gaming PC? Got one. The problem there would come with car insurance, VINs, or computer program licenses... but again, "as I see in my head" means it would adjust whatever needs adjusting behind the scenes so that anyone that looked into things would find everything in order and everything would appear legit. And if you absolutely needed cash for something (buy a plot of land to manifest a nice new house on, for example) you could manifest diamonds and other jewels to sell for cash. You could probably find a way to solve world hunger... manifest seeds that can somehow grow in any climate with even the smallest amount of water, or even none at all. You could manifest a cure for cancer and other incurable diseases/ailments that you could hand over to medical professionals (many so there's no monopolizing for money) so they could mass produce them and get them out to everyone. You could manifest terraforming devices that worked efficiently and wormhole generators so we could expand to new worlds easily to deal with the over population problem that's coming up. You could choose to manifest things that are specifically able to be reverse engineered to propel our technology levels forward by centuries or millennia.
