I own one of these 324s and bought it on the spot one afternoon after playing and hearing it for the first time. It’s a beautiful sounding and playing guitar. But my main purpose here is to compliment Chris on such a great review. He explains the specs of the guitars being compared, describes what to expect sonically from each and why, and then alternates playing them back to back in different playing styles (instead of playing each for a long stretch!) so you can listen for the things he mentions. It’s nice listening to a review that’s actually informative!

I played the 324 at the factory yesterday. It has quite a bit of dynamic range and volume. I liked it a lot. It’s got a nice bass thump too which I didn’t expect.

As a rule of thumb I like bright Martins and warm Taylor’s . Usually Taylor are bright and Martins are warm, so I like a hog top Taylor The spruce top is excellent has a better dynamic range but the mahogany with its satin finish and warm sound just speaks to me.

Every Taylor that I own or have played has been a treat to my ears. I own a Taylor 562ce Grand Concert 12-Fret. The 324ce, just like the 562ce, are, IMHO, guitars that have caressed my soul!!!

I think it is pretty obvious after this great demo that ya really have to pick yourself up one of each. Then you are covered with the best fit for all occasions.

Thanks for making this video. I think i am in love for 324ce. The builder edition 324ce is great too, unfortunately most Taylor Builder edition does not offer left handed version. Hence i can only look for 324ce.

Also like the satin finish on the 324 much better than high gloss on any guitar.

Mahogany top really changes everything. 324ce has the dark tone of Mahogany and the brightness of Acacia, but it doesn't seemed balanced with strumming. The low tones outweigh the high ones. 324ce finger picking has midtones in lower volume.

I have the 324ce. I think it captures the best of Taylor and Marting. Deep base response plus the high end shimmer of Taylor.

I have always liked Spruce over a darker wood, It's just sounds so clear and bright to me

They both sound great. Mahogany is definitely deeper but in a really good way. Ideally one would have one of each but for me if I could only have one it would be the 324.

I am leaning to the 314 in the sound department. But the 324 takes the honors in the looks. End result, both are great sounding and both are great guitars. You will be a winner with which ever you buy.

The 324 has this rich lush tone, that captivated my heart. It's draws me in like a moth to a flame...Lol!

I'm currently waiting for my 324; the company I'm buying from is out of them until about May. However, after listening to your demo, I prefer the highs of the 314. Sounds similar to me. Maybe the 324 is a little louder. I imagine I could hear a difference playing them myself. But I like both and would buy either.

324 is my sound.

If you play fingerstyle and want a warm balanced low mid high then I recommend cedar tops with either mahogany or sapele back/sides. Or my ultimate favorite combination, Engelmann Spruce top with Rosewood back/sides.

If i was going to record a guitar it would be the 314. If i was going to play at home with some friend or on the couch it would be the 324.

I just bought the 324 & am happy as a pig in poop with it. I also have a 114ce which sounds very much like the 314ce in brightness. I'd say defo go play them both before you buy as there is a huge difference. The 324 is very low to mid & has a bass thump to it. The 324 Seems to be more for picking through chords rather than bashing out long chord strums.

314 much more open and alive the 314 is possibly in their top 3 or 4 guitars that Taylor makes...U dont need to spend a ton..Great guitar!

The 324- to my ears- has got a sound that seems faraway, yet close, if that makes any sense. You want it to get closer, but the harder you play the more you want it. The 314's sound, by contrast, is more direct, yet very pretty and lush. I prefer the 324 though.

I tried the 524CE with V bracing it sounded awesome, I’m definitely going to go try the 324CE to me between the two the 324 is the one that sounded good to me. But I am thinking of getting a 524CE with the bracing but before I buy that I’m going to go check out the 324CE with the bracing as well.

Look, they both sound incredible and at this level of craftsmanship we start splitting hairs! I chose the 324CE for the utter warmth and crisp tone. It's not going to blast out at the mid range like the the 314 will...I sat for hours A/B the 324CE against others and I just cannot handle NOT having that warmth and control that it brings to the table. At the end of the day I have the solution, buy BOTH! : ) Yay! lol

I actually just purchased the 324ce Vclass on Black Friday Unfortunately I could not do a side by side because the guitar center closest to me only had the 314Ce. Tried it and really really liked it. Even more then the 414ce’s (which I originally was looking to buy) I then went to another GC and tried the 324ce Played it for an hour or so. Comparing to a bunch of models, but couldn’t directly compare to the 314ce as they did not have one in the store The clear mids are very apparent on the 324. Which I really really appreciated. And after a great Black Friday deal (440 off on the 324ce V class). I purchased it. Took it home played for hours that night next day. And loved almost everything about it. Including the satin finish on the mahogany and Blackwood BUT, in the end I just feel like, for me it compressed a little too much for my taste especially on the low end making it a little too dark sounding to me I wound up taking it back and getting the 314ce Which sonically is really nice all around but definitely has the more traditional Taylor sound We have to other Taylor’s (my son plays). And this sounds more like the others. Which is not bad I wanted to love the 324 but as much as i love the beautiful aesthetics and awesome clear mid range, the Smokey sound on low end was a little too compressed and played a little too quiet as well Try them both. The video here is really good but listen with headphones. Also. Play them because it really does level out the sound to where it doesn’t feel like it gives back what you put in. (Though Maybe you like that) I’m really happy with my 314 V class. But do wish it had the clear mids of the 324. I guess you can’t have it all. Unless I want to buy one of each. Ha!

Never played a Taylor I liked enough to buy. Midrange always goes missing for me. That said, I just bought a 324ce.

Hopefully selling my 310ce so I can purchase 324ce. Love my 310 I’d just like to move up to 324ce. Like the warm sound

Not a lot of bass on rosewood I'm surprised. I played a 814 and 714 and wasn't impressed then a 414ce and was blown away that it sounded better fuller deeper bass and bought it..

I bought a 210ce orignally, loved its response and shimmer, but alas the shimmer and broghtness and lack of warmth gets annoying after a while. Wanted a more balanced taylor. I tried the 224K and the 324ce all hog. I took home the 324ce, but after a few days I noticed its alot harder to get the same volume and response as the 210. I suspected the mahogany, so compared it to a Martin 000-15M and the martin had more response and projection in most cases than the 324ce, with less articulation in the higher notes, or shall I saw tone. I love the 324ce, but why i it so quiet and compressed? I live in tucson az and use the the humidfier packs to keep it at ideal humidity. Could an adjustment improve the volume projection of the 324ce?

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but are they putting Nanoweb strings from the factory instead of Polyweb now?

CHRIS - may not be the right place for this, but would it be possible for a comparison video between the Martin GPC-15ME vs the Taylor 324ce V-Class?? Would love to know your thoughts on these and if you lean one way or the other. Thanks! Dave

The 314ec you just cant beat for the money... it can hang with taylors 4 thousand and even their 5 thousand dollar rage of guitars! They say the 814ec grand auditorium is their flag ship guitar but id say in truth their 314ec is their flagship guitar!

3 years later what guitar do you like better the 324ce or 314ce? V class. I have the 324ce just bought it and I M just curious. Be honest I can’t take it. I did spend a lot on the 324ce but just curious your thoughts?

I bought the 324ce back in March online, without having played the guitar (COVID lockdown), based solely on reviews such as this one. My intent was to exchange the guitar if for some reason I didn’t love it. I absolutely love this guitar. I have been playing for about 3 years, and this was a huge step up from a 500 USD Sigma DM15. The Taylor was over 6x the price of the Sigma. But I treated myself for working hard at learning guitar, having practiced every day for 3 years. I will be able to grow as a guitar player, and potentially play at open mic nites or other such things should I get good enough. it’s also an incentive for me to continue to improve, since now the quality of the instrument is far ahead of my guitar playing 😀

324 both look and sound.

I'm torn. I feel like if both guitars were played in unison, they would compliment each other in ways that would make angels cry. The warmth and rounded bottom end of the 324 mixed with the shimmer and clarity of the 314's treble would possibly make the perfect guitar sound.

I get a kick out of the "Old Timers" in a Center box store that sells guitars and the obligatory old debate about Taylor and Martin is the topic. The Old Timer is 100% of the time going to say. Taylor will never be Martin......No Shit Columbo.....Robert Taylor never had anything in mind to be a little bit of Martin and a little bit of Taylor. He has been a innovator in Acoustic Guitar design and has played an integral role in the future of the tonewood and sustained harvesting and growth techniques. Bob Taylor will be long gone when many of his investments are in use.

To my ears the 324 sounds crisper, the 314 softer, warmer, deeper - my preference, but sadly , the 314s I play in Winnipeg never sound as good as yours

The best guitar is the one that responds to your playing and reacts how you expect it to. If you hate that harsher treble, but are a hard strummer, then the 324 will work better for you. If you hate a boomier low end, and play bass notes like Tommy Emmanuel, then get the 314.

Taylor guitars vary sooo much in sound just between dreadnought to cutaway, size and brand of strings, action, old bracing vs v-bracing, model level.. you can have 2 Taylor guitars that are the same and they can sound different. Ive played Taylor's for over 20 years now and honestly, this is the most aggravating thing about trying to buy a Taylor guitar, some sound amazing and some just play and sound like crap.

the 314ce is the taylor sound. I would get a rosewood martin dread before I got that 324ce. why would you want to snuff the bright, tight sound of a grand auditorium with dull wood? nothing barks like that 314ce when you open it up either. oh well. The "record with 314ce and sit on couch with 324ce" guy is spot on. but fortunately those aren't the only 2 guitars on earth. Also if I wanted a really full low end I would never have a cutaway in the first place. edit: what would treetop flyer sound like on both of those, played hard like Stills plays it?

My experiences upon Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Ovation, Yamaha … is that without a set up at the saddle height, nut or sometimes the truss rod, all have no playability. ie their actions are a bit high.

Not my taste, sounds too compressed when picked, slightly better when strummed.

314 doesnt good to me

The new V-bracing may give more sustain and volume, but I can't understand why should the 3 series become estaticly more and more ugly with every new version. If you look back to the 2015/2016 models you will understand what I mean.

I almost bought the 314 online and instead I went to a music store to get it. Even with the v class it was the worst Taylor I've ever played. Garbage guitar. Sounds like it came out of a kids toybox. I hate to say that about Taylor but it was a dud.
