This song hits differently the older you get. You'll look back at the moments you treasure, the ones you regret and the ones that shook your world and brought about massive changes; or even the little memories of small acts of kindness and love. Every day, "remember when" becomes richer and more special as the number of days behind us grows while our days ahead begin to dwindle.

It also hammers home when you start struggling to remember things and that can be brutal as you remember enough to be crushed by the lack of recall. I know there are many things I wish I would have written down. So to all the younger folk ... record your memories in some form.

His wife wrote a book about their marriage, his cheating, their faith and finding trust and love again. It is a phenomenal book. My favorite line "remember when the sound of little feet was the music we danced to week to week". He is one of my absolute favorites.

In my mind, I still think she will come home. i guess that is me just holding on and not accepting what happened. Continue to always tell your wife what she means to you and the love you have for her. that is one thing I can hold onto, knowing she knew my love for her.

You two have restored my faith in the younger generation! Tonight is one of those sleepless nights for me, so I've been watching you guys all night. My wife loved this song, and it brought me to tears. I was diagnosed with leukemia 6 years ago, and my wife was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in Sept. 0f 2020. Two days before her diagnosis, we really started to start making serious retirement plans. Unfortunately, she passed away a few days before Thanksgiving of 2021 after 21 years of marriage at the age of 47. We were looking forward to growing old together and enjoying retirement and future grandchildren. This song reminds me so much of what was, and what was yet to come. God Bless You All! There are a couple of other songs I think you'll like one is "Yesterday When I Was Young" by Roy Clark and "Paint Me A Birmingham" by Tracy Lawrence.

My wife and I are coming up on our 44th anniversary in April. This song truly brings back memories of our short time together. The good times, bad times, and everything in between require love, patience, and more than anything else, commitment. When you think you can't go on, try to imagine your life without your hearts core. When we were 19 and nobody gave us a chance except us.

My mom and dad dated for 8 years before getting married. They were each other's first, and they got married, or rather eloped, because I was 3 months on the way to being a part of this world. My parents never argued with each other, mom always looked up to dad and trusted in his judgement, but also advised him whenever she could. I can only think of 3 times they ever got mad at each other, but they went into separate rooms and cooled off, there was no yelling, no petty bickering, but that happens with people that live together. My parents were married for 46 years, and including the 8 years of dating, means they were together for 54 wonderful years. My dad was stoic, reserved, and outside of a humorous pun or joke, was pretty quiet. He had no enemies, and everyone thought highly of him, even though he seemed a bit of a mystery to them because of his quietness. He didn't give compliments that often, rarely said "I love you" or "I'm proud of you", because to my dad, he didn't like valuable words like those to lose their meaning through mindless repetition. He sacrificed a lot for my mom, my younger brother and sister, and myself. He adored his grandchildren, and I have pictures of him driving my two young nephews around on the riding mower. He loved us without having to say it. He said it with the gifts he got us that he knew we liked or needed. He said it in the many hours of sleep he lost. He said it in the way he tailored his work hours so that he could be home and ready when us kids got home from school so he could be with us. There was no one I idolized more than my dad Sadly, my dad passed away back in December 2021 at 80 years old due to blood clots from the C19 shot. Taking over his role as "man of the house", I've discovered oh so much about my dad and his love for us, that I only wished I could have known and appreciated when he was alive. I think a lot about my mom, who has Alzheimer's, and how losing dad affects her. This song reminds me of the love they had for each other, the trust, and the life they built together for 54 years. Not only do I think about mom dealing with this, but also my siblings, my adult niece, and toddler nephews. When dad was in the hospital for the month leading up to his passing, we got word that he was going to be a great-grandfather. He would have been thrilled to hear of it, but never did. Country music has a lot of sad songs, and lots of love songs. Unlike other kinds of music, Country music has a way of making you feel the pain, but also offering a little hope, and a little healing in the end. Is it any wonder that most music today exists because of country music, since it shares origins with blues, gave birth to rockabilly, which became rock and roll, which split off into many sub genres like prog rock, metal, grunge, etc. But the thing that remains the same is that true country has heart and soul, makes you feel, makes you think, and it often is songs about life. That's why I always default back to the music I was raised with. If I could make a request, I would suggest Conway Twitty's "That's My Job". It details the relationship between a father and son, and in many ways is a parallel with my own life. Damn song hits me in the gut every time, but also reminds me of the love involved in picking up the torch and carrying on the legacy.

Don’t wait until your 50th anniversary to listen! You’re right about using it as inspiration. Our kids were little when it came out. They knew mama was going to sing and cry every time it came on the radio especially when it said “the sound of little feet was the music we danced to week to week.” We were so thankful for for having them and each other knowing they would “grow up and move away.” We danced to this song at our daughter’s wedding. Also, I am going to use the lyrics in our anniversary scrapbook.

I love how he uses the mandolin so wonderfully in most of his videos...its just beautiful...just like his songs...wholesome family oriented songs about real life...about the life most of us secretly dream ours would or should be like...its a shame the world today no longer takes the time with things going at such a fast pace to take time to enjoy and notice....things that would make a difference in the world are being erased...things we should take time for like family and simple moral values....maybe all of us should start thinking about all of this on a daily basis instead of everythin

This is one of those song that is beautiful. When your young you can appreciate the beauty in it. However when you reach a much older age like I have it takes you back to all the stepping stones you have reached in your life. If you led a loving and happy life along the way it will bring back all those happy memories and a tear or 2. And if course the feeling of wishing you could do it all over again.

Having lived over 65 years and being with my sweetheart for almost 44 of those years, these words hit home. My baby boys are now 42 and 39, and it seems like yesterday that I first held HER and them in my arms the first time. You two are such a sweet couple. Hope you enjoy life together for a long time so you to can remember. Memory is such a wonderful thing!

My aunt got pregnant at 16yo & never got to have a full wedding. A few years ago at their 50th wedding anniversary, they did their "first dance" to this song surrounded by their kids & grandkids ❤

I was a full-time Paramedic in North Carolina when the 9/11 attacks took place. 13 years into a 30 year career, I was ironically in pre-op waiting to be taken back for hernia surgery. Things slowed somewhat as the O.R. staff scrambled to make sure their children and family were safe, so I was still awake when the towers fell. That was the last place I wanted to be on that day, not knowing what else may be coming as I was put under. It was my regular shift that day & I wanted to be on the EMS unit to which I was assigned, not going out for several weeks of recovery. Now retired, I still remember it as if it were yesterday.

Ali I watch as you listen to these songs. I see how much you relate to the words. I hope the good times always win. Remember the dance, those quite times get you through the rough spots.

I love Alan Jackson's music! It's sad that he's unwell now, but he's still hanging in there and doing what he does best! A country duo you might like is Brooks & Dunn - "Neon Moon" is my favorite. Ronnie Dunn has an incredible voice!
