I was working at a school in Melbourne in early 1998, it sweltering hot and I was sweating like a pig and fatigue was setting in as the day went on and I was trying to find the will to carry on, then I heard this on the builders boom box and it lifted me up. The basics of Rock N Roll booming out in the hot sun saved my soul.

Me and my friend would hook up with Alan every other Sunday ( ritual) to go to the Limelight in the the 90's. We would hang out out the small chapel ( if anyone remembers that ). He was the nicest guy. Loved his music. Miss you Alan

I remember, going back in the late 80's into the 90's, I would meet my friend Mark at a bar in Sheepsheads Bay in Brooklyn. It was a Sunday ritual. We would drive into Manhattan and pick up Allen and go to the Limelight (remember that place?). We would hang out in the the small bar outside of the chapel. Allen was the greatest guy. The kind of guy you were happy that he was your friend. I cried when he died. He was a good man!!!

Obviously from your remark, you've never been to a rave. It's amazing how people give praise for nothing remarkable - or is it harder to dance with a full chest? BAME and women get praise for breathing these days hence the deterioration of culture. IMHO 😅🤣🤣😂💋

By the time he was truly appreciated by non-artists (fellow musicians like Ric Ocasek loved him) he was too old to get down like he used to. Can't imagine that all his peak performances were done in front of an unappreciative audience. But that takes true rock n roll grit!

I’m French and saw him live in France in 2000s and had a blast! I think Alan is just underrated. Only a few people really understood his talent. Personally- I owe it to my dad. (Who was/is a huge fan- although he lives in a small town in France)

America ignored every single thing he did until indie bands started stealing all of his ideas and BS hipster outfits like Pitchfork turned him into a hip fashion accessory. He and Vega even got banned from CBGB and were looked down on as psycho freaks and thugs because of all the sensationalized nonsense in the press about their performances. This audience may have sucked but on the whole the French appreciated him more than his own countrymen ever did.
