“It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. I was so preposterously serious in those days…Lightly, lightly - it’s the best advice ever given me…to throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling…” - Aldous Huxley, Island Man i love this, i love you all

As someone who is aggressively addicted to making sense of everything, this statement just unraveled my mind. In the same way that we think about the north and south poles of the Earth - a man could drive himself crazy in the literal pursuit of finding them. In reality, they are only concepts which enable us to delineate up from down.

I don’t think I can really put into words how much Alan Watts saved me at a really low point. At times I thought my life was all over, I’d listen to his lectures and it would really ground me. It would settle my fears and come to the realisation to keep going. Keep surprising yourself, life keeps throwing things right at you but you got to keep going.

@@SparcBR There's no point on be worried if there's anything more than death. We don't know and we will not know, we don't have the ability to know what's beyond life. One of my important moments in life was the time l was at a crosswalk that had the pedestrian signals to tell you when to stop or go. Directly across from me was a young woman who appeared to have down syndrome. No cars were coming, so l started to cross the road, eventhough the signal showed to stop. The young woman said "you're not suppose to go...STUPID". That made me laugh. She was right for one thing, but l also saw it as her chance to call someone else "stupid" How many times has someone called her "stupid"? Never will forget.

Overthinking ‘the decision to click on the video’ in the first place. There is a reason you are thinking that, it is not a wrong thought. There is much worry in this comment, ironic to the video yes, but here’s my advice. Seek things you do in your life that currently fulfill you, wonder why, and hopefully by answering that question, it can tree out into things you ‘fill’ your life with that fulfill you. ‘Happiness’ and ‘motivation’ are words I try not to integrate. You can FEEL happy, but that’s a ‘byproduct’ of fulfillment.

Death ends life. But death doesn't just end lives, it breaks hearts. I don't think we fear the end of life, I think we fear the end of love. Love is what really matters in life and we wonder if death puts an end to all love. That would be the tragedy of it.

Well death is a construct of living beings, as all animals do fear it when they see death on their doorstep. What we do see is that collective evolution doesn't stop with death. That is why species develop adaptations through millions of lives and deaths. Be thankful you are a part of this process, because we are all still evolving!

I recently had my neighbor, who I didn't know quite well, only once saw them and said hi when they were entering their apartment as I was mine, suicide. Even though I barely knew her, I felt compassion and as if love for her spirit that I felt so sorry for her death. When you look at death from the point of view of others who live past your point of death in time, I don't think it is human for people to not feel connection and to let love be blank in such event. There's your answer.

One things i’ve always told myself since i was little is, “life could always be worse” and it’s such an interesting sentence; truly. Such a powerful one but most of us ‘overlook’ it and brush it off with not much value. But if you truly sit and think about the history of our species, what we have been through, what some people still go through to this day… and compare it to what you have been though/experienced; it should quickly put into perspective your struggles and (hopefully) give you some hope… No matter what you’ve been through or what you’re going through right now, someone has been through it or something similar and *HAS* made it out alive. They *HAVE* succeeded and continued with a life of happiness. I think in todays society a lot of us really take for granted the basic things in life. Once some of that is stripped away you start to realize how fragile we all truly are. Enjoy life. Slow down. *TAKE A LOOK AROUND* Life is beautiful, people are beautiful. I see so many hurt/broken souls. And it makes me think how weak we all have become honestly. Back in the day hope was the only thing that drove us through famine, disease, war, etc. *HOPE*

Your comment caries a lot of wisdom that I'm afraid many people dismiss. We are truly blessed to be in the point we are now... we have endless possibilities to pursue what we want, but we seem to be carried away by bullshit and fear. Gratitude is crucial, because in a way, it makes you stronger, you can't have your head held high without gratitude. I know there are problems in the horizon, and I know reality is different for many people on this Earth, but hey, we are watching a video about not taking life to seriously on youtube, we all must have some semblance of gratitude for even HAVING that possibility. You also need to take into account though, that for much of our history we were surviving, that is, focusing on whats on the outside. Now that we have the privilege to have FREE TIME on our hands, that is, time not trying to survive, we start to look within. In a way we turn against ourselves. Those who don't are still "surviving", how can they not without any self awareness? There is a reason that the highest good in our economy is now attention, its extremely powerful. Due to its power, when we turn attention against ourselves, the main enemy becomes exactly that, ourselves. We see the absurdity around us, and trying to merge our desires, with expectations, trauma, with a whole lot of other shit. We yearn to reach a point of self transcendence, individuation, however you put it, but nobody points towards the path unless we search for it ourselves. Its hard to be at peace and feel fulfilled in a society that is spiritually rotting, and completely out of touch with nature. This is VERY HARD for a lot of people since social institutions were built whilst we were still surviving, and everything we see now was built to keep something going, its not built for our benefit, to transcend our biology lets say (I think that self awareness allows you to do that, in a sense). Its no wonder there are lots of broken souls out there, I think your mistake is attributing it to weakness. We are simply in a completely new stage as a species and we need time to figure OURSELVES out, weed out the trauma, and actually start acting for our benefit as a whole and not stay dysfunctional. We can start by having some gratitude for those that came before us.
@littlepixxie

love your comment and i agree wholeheartedly! the systems we currently live in are outdated because they were created at a time of consciousness that we have transcended, our systems are based on survival, not on cooperation that considers the Whole and the potentials of expansive awareness applied to an ever changing society. grateful to see this comment and this put so clearly, screenshooting to share 🩷

Well, I was given a serious incurable illness by my doctor giving me the wrong medicine. (it's called FQAD if you want to look it up) Its a made up illness basically but so bad I will be killing myself. MS, Parkinsons, Chroronic Fatigue, Fibromialgia, the list of chronic diseases goes on and on. Most are modern illness. not seen at all or rarely in the past. Mental illness caused by modern society too, as well as many other things - not breatstfeeding, pesticides, fake food, pollution, lack of sunlight, chronic stress, chemicials, pharmacueticals. So if your mental health is good, your physical health is good and your finaces are good - and you don't have a sick child, child on drugs, etc. you can do OK. But in my opinion modern society has made things worse. Hunter gatherer societys have very little depression, suicide, etc. I was doing OK but it all went in a flash with, by my "doctor" messing up. And modern medicine messes up all the time, we just hear the success stories. I didn't even need the damn antiobitcs to begin with. So now I listen to Allen Watts to calm my fears of death which I hope comes soon.@@anabolicchicken4115

how could you have been "very religious for a couple years?" what were you before? and gnosticism deals with what you know and agnosticism is something everyone should invest in because how descrates put it "I think therefore I am" Is the only thing you can be certain of. Theism or atheism deals with what you believe. Do you act or even consider that some deity is constantly watching you as you go about life or say are in the bathroom? What do you think? you're almost there my fellow mortal and it's not bad at all.

It's so natural to attribute what you don't know to a magic old man hiding in the "sky" not to accept him. The atheists that you know are humans with a lot of negative emotions and meds are known to cause more harm than good! Religion can turn people into insane haters and murderes like islam for example!

I feel so much gratitude for his talks. I dont dwell on it but in this moment im reflecting on the fact that before you come to this realization you spend so much time fighting the very nature of existence. So much energy put towards fighting the duality that will always be there. You dont have to fight, both sides define the other. Without one there is no other. I feel like unless you've really thought deeply about it this seems like nonsense but to me it makes perfect sense and brings me peace.

I think I get what you mean and still disagree. I'd rather have a boring monotonous life over a bad life filled with minimal good or any variation. If I could exist not knowing what pleasure is and without knowing pain, I'd take that. Without life there is no death. I'd rather life not exist at all Edit: just wanted to clarify that this isn't me trying to change your mind. Just a conversation. Don't want a snarky comment when I'm being genuine.

I love that! Don’t take life too serious just be sincere with what you do! Don’t be too serious, just be sincere! Don’t loose sleep over something so minor or frivolous just because you took it too serious and it caused you to overthink so much you lost sleep over it! Just be sincere, go to sleep every night knowing YOU DID EVERYTHING that day to the BEST of YOUR possible ability and that was way more then good enough, and tomorrow will be another day to do it all over again and maybe even better. Just don’t kill yourself for a job that would replace you without a seconds thought or any hesitation at all. A business stops for no one and must continue on with or without you. Know and never forget in the work environment, no matter what field you work in, no matter how much experience, knowledge or degrees you have under your belt, that you are easily replaceable! But to your family and loved ones you are absolutely beyond irreplaceable!! So know your priorities, know the reality of it all outside the “bigger picture” and know you are worth much, much more to ANY of your loved ones, current, new or old then any job could ever possibly value your degrees, skills, ability and capability to do said job! In any and all work environments you yourself has a price value set on your head of your worth hence your set hourly/salary rate is what your worth to said job! Your loved ones couldn’t put a price on your skill, ability and capability to love them as they love you! So take life less serious, be more sincere about everything, know your worth! Get your priorities in order, set standards for yourself, live by morals that YOU cherish and uphold yourself to them to the highest standard and never slack on it! Remember to be humble to not only your loved ones, those around you in general but most importantly yourself! Humble yourself to be humble to yourself! Live Laugh Love Isn’t just some corny quote on every soccer moms wall in the living room above the sofa beside the family photos.. It’s something we should take very serious and live by!

I had a near death experience as a child and saw a timeless glimpse in the realm beyond, it has taken me 30+ years to be able to put words behind this amazing experience, but Alan does it very natural and truthful. To put it into simple words "life is a mirror, all your thoughts will reflect back upon yourself" allowing us to see our own karma. There is no good, there is no bad, everything just is. When I first started my search to understand things that nobody seemed to have answers for I was lead toward a few sources that met my desire. I will share them with you as you all are already moving toward the right direction by finding Alan Watts works. They are "Science of the Mind" Ernest Holmes, Teachings of a Immortal. Edgar Cayce's One life many vessels, We are all Doing Time, The Four Agreements, Proof of Heaven -Eben Alexander, anything Alan Watt says are all lessons learned in my timeless experience and I am glad to see others sharing in the same universal truth that I believe everyone should accept in their lives. Love peace and prosperity to you all.

I forgot to mention a book written by Dr. Doughlas Cottrell named The law of One. All of these books depending on who you are, have great knowledge that will give great strength if you decide to believe in them. As we do live in a universe where we see what we believe, instead of seeing is believing. Since everyone is infinitely connected to the infinite at all times, everything remains relative from our subjective view point. Everyone can climb the same mountain regardless of the name they give the mountain,or choose different paths up this same mountain, yet we are all climbing the same mountain from our desired view point of reflection. My own Meditation exercise to center ones self mind , body and soul. I have developed my own form of meditation that works for me, and I will share it with you now in hopes it brings understanding as all answers are within. Rather then teaching you what to think, I will teach you how to think for yourself using meditation as a tool. Once you blank your mind, you can shut your eyes and lose sense of time, and enjoy the gentle stillness and peace it brings. Once all surface thoughts have subdued. You push even deeper (think of it as a ocean, on the surface waves are roaring, but deep within there is always a calmness) this is where you plan to be, mentally and spiritually. Once you have this selflessness and emptyness achieved, focus on yourself with no particular goal or motive, just that you exist within this blackhole of selflessness. Once there surround yourself with 6 Mirrors making a hexagon around you, each being a part of yourself that makes the combined reflection of who you are. It can be anything from a feeling you desire, a person you love, a item that brings happiness, each is something that helps you to be you. Once you move from one to the next and can see each for what it is you will wake up from this selflessness meditation, however the memory of the reflection in the mirror will remain in your conscious mind. This is your subconscious soul mind giving you clues and you can then apply your conscious thought toward why you selected them. Reflect on it, and ask the question why you selected them and the importance they play in your life and if you see yourself as incomplete without them. This has helped me to achieve great happiness as it allows my higher mind to show me first hand what it is that I seek, when sometimes I have no clue myself where I am headed nor any control for what the future may hold, only how I react to it. It brings great clarity in knowing that nothing is meaningless and has helped me to achieve happiness despite my surroundings or obstacles in life. I hope this helps anyone who wishes to center themselves. I developed this using my experience of my near death in combination with many years of meditation and self reflection. Prayers held within the heart are normally what surfaces in my own experience but that is the beauty of this exercise, that each will be as unique as the individual using it.

I believe religion to be personal between you and God. What I experienced only proved to me that no human mind could nor can understand how vast God is or our own souls really are. No label or religion can define the infinite. Man has often created God in his own image if you study history and the evolution of God. You will find that our evolution and God's are almost one in the same. On a spiritual stand point I think humankind is still a young teenager with much to learn. I myself do agree with many religions, especially the ones centered around love and sympathy for all, because after all, we are all one. I am doing a interview via youtube about my entire experience I will post here around November 6th or around so you can hear it for yourself. I hope you find it of use in what you seek. I'm 33 and it still applies! Wise understanding brother! Never compare yourself to a fellow man, always compare yourself to who you were yesterday! Always show respect! Always demand respect! but also roll with the punches! Look up stoicism and different life philosophies. You'll hear the right words to keep you motivated and grounded in reality! "Always question the man in the mirror!"

I always try my best not to take life too seriously, but I have to take the events unfolding around me seriously. If I can't manage to keep up with my surroundings the world will move without me. I don't feel a sense of togetherness nor belonging in my educational environment in life right now, but I just have to keep pushing forward as strong as I can, so I can sleep at night and wake up to face more challenges again.

Believe it or not when you graduate either if you were the popular kid or the outcast everyone in that class of yours will be alone. They will have moved far on with their lives many of the supposed friends will stop talking after graduation. Those who felt they had a community will realise that at the end of the day when stuff starts going peer shaped they really only have themselves to turn to, to rely on. Whenever you belong or not you are responsible for you. Yes it’s nice to have people but as life goes on you will meet freinds who will have shared the same experiences. It’s hard not belonging sometimes. But then again think if that feeling as a timeframe. To figure yourself out what you like who you are what do you want to do so that you don’t take life entirely seriously but still keep it together. Not taking life seriously for me is not doing a budget Not keeping to my to do lists and going on my own tandems is a starter. Hang in there you will be happy. School is such a short time in your life you might think you hate it but 5 years from now ironically you’ll find yourself reminiscing. Funny isn’t it?

I had this exact same mental image once. I was driving on a desert highway at night, with the moon filling the sky ahead. As I drove the highway lifted up off the ground and extended up into the clouds, directly toward the moon.

@@dosomestuff1949 The topic of the video is about being mindful and being light hearted in your attitude towards life and its hardships. Stoicisms talks a lot about mindfulness and the original comment is saying that true strength comes from inside, not letting your mood affect how your perspective even if that is human nature. Up to you if it means anything but it correlates to the video.

Modern life and being caught in this so called “LIFE” and the rat race and retirement plans, and insurance policies blah blah blah MEANS NOTHING! This is all a game and we are part of a play and he puts it so justly and explains it in such a creative way. Modern life (at least in America) is so unauthentic until you realize that life goes WAYYYY beyond what meets the eye. You aren’t defined by the job you have, the money you have acquired or the materials you possess. Or how “good” you look or the clothes you wear or the car you drive ITS ALL A JOKE HENCE HIM REFERRING TO THE JOKER! 🤣. To not only realize the time we spend on this Earth is limited, but to acknowledge our existence and truly being in the moment is something most people can’t do, and understandably so. But I also believe most people are actually scared of what reality REALLY IS. Because these modern times aren’t reality. That is why people are more depressed then they have ever been. Anxiety seems never ending and it can be when you begin to think about all these BS games they try to make us think are important when they don’t mean anything. I could go on and on.. I really enjoy listening to this man.

hes so amazing, i hear his voice on some ego death meditation. truthfully it fits so well. there is no point to life, at least not out there. but you can take that as a blight on the world, as a loss of purpose. or you can see there being no one point, as an opportunity to make ur own points, the things your strive for, just because you want to. you are the artist, painting on the canvas of your life. your feelings, thoughts, actions, desires. they, are the paint with which you form the painting of ur life. some ups, some downs. some fast parts, some slow. you are beautiful and amazing, and the you your becoming, is the more gorgeous. be your true self, it helps.
