LYRICS
I can be an a**hole of the grandest kind
I can withhold like it's going out of style
I can be the moodiest baby and you've never met anyone
Who is as negative as I am sometimes
I am the wisest woman you've ever met.
I am the kindest soul with whom you've connected.
I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone
Who's as positive as I am sometimes.
You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here
I blame everyone else, not my own partaking
My passive-aggressiveness can be devastating
I'm terrified and mistrusting
And you've never met anyone as,
As closed down as I am sometimes
You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here
What I resist, persists, and speaks louder than I know
What I resist, you love, no matter how low or high I go
I'm the funniest woman that you've ever known
I'm the dullest woman that you've ever known
I'm the most gorgeous woman that you've ever known
And you've never met anyone
Who is as everything as I am sometimes
You see everything (you see everything), you see every part (you see every part)
You see all my light (you see all my light) and you love my dark (and you love my dark)
You dig everything (you dig everything) of which I'm ashamed (of which I'm ashamed)
There's not anything (there's not anything) to which you can't relate (to which you can't relate)
And you're still here
(You see everything, you see every part)
And you're still here
(You see all my light and you love my dark)
And you're still here
(You dig everything of which I'm ashamed)
(There's not anything to which you can't relate)
And you're still here...

58 year old man here, and my eyes still fill with tears every time I hear this song. It’s unconditional love personified. I truly believe Alanis is a once-in-a-lifetime poet, and the way her raw and honest lyrics are arranged to perfect highs and lows within the music - perfection.

The 2000s really was the extended decade of the 1990s. Not the 90s hype the genzs of today are obsessing with in their own styles.
@-Nickname-
@-Nickname- 2 ай бұрын
I'm curious as to whether you understand generations as well as you seem. I see you mentioned gen Z, but most young people today categorize generations incorrectly. By gen Z do you mean the accurate generation born between 2010 and 2020? Or do you mean the 2000's kids which are actually millennials? Before you answer, keep in mind, the new millennium (year 2000) was the beginning of the millennials. Hence the name. Children today call 90s kids millennials, which makes no sense because you can't be a millennial before the new millennium started. That's like calling a fetus a baby. Or calling a 30 year old middle aged. Or calling a 50 year old a senior citizen. The timing doesn't fit. Please tell me you're not one of those idiots.
@Metal-Possum
@Metal-Possum 20 күн бұрын
@@-Nickname- You clearly don't know the generations at all. Millennials were born between 81 and 95, Gen Z between 96 and 2010, and Gen Alpha onwards. Millennials are aptly named because the oldest of them became adults around the turn of the millennium, not because they were born in the new millennium like you seem to think... I was born in 1991 and identify as a millennial, or "Gen Y" as some people call us (because we followed Gen X). I'm also able to call myself a 90's kid, having remembered enough of the 90's at an age where I was definitely conscious (compared to an older Gen Z kid pretending to remember 1999 for instance), Go away and educate yourself on this subject better.
@-Nickname-
@-Nickname- 20 күн бұрын
@@Metal-Possum The new millennium began with the 2000s. It makes absolutely no sense to call people millennials before the millennium change. During the 80s we were called generation X. Then you youngsters that came way later slowly warped the age ranges for each generation until you ended up with the senseless abomination of generations you go by now. I stick with the original labels. If you want to obey the nonsensical garbage that children come up with, then that's your choice.

Pau Dones, the boy who cuts his hair at the beginning of the video, died today (06-09-2020). It was a Spanish singer who gave Alanis the idea to make this video clip. His video, of similar aesthetics, that Alanis liked so much, is titled "Bonito" (You can find it as Jarabe de Palo, Bonito).

Morissette loved the song "Bonito" by Jarabe de Palo, so she asked Pau Donés (vocalist) to compose one for her, aaaaand this is it. That's why the videoclips are so alike. Additionally, Pau appears many times here.

Years ago, I reached the lowest point of my entire life. My depression was so bad, I was making plans to commit suicide. I saw no other way out And I just wanted it all to end. That day, I found out that Clerks II was opening and something inside me made me get out of my bed and go see it. It was the first time, in a very long time, that I actually laughed. Your song, Everything, helped save my life. The joy that is the ending of that movie made me cry tears of happiness and your song is no small part of that. To this day, when I'm feeling down, I listen to Everything. To me, it's a hymn that reminds me that, no matter how bad things seem, God still sees me for all that I am and still loves me. Thank you Alanis. I am alive today to write this post because you were there for me in song. God bless you.

Remember this song playing all day long on the radio in 2002. I was 9 years old, with my parents on vacation by the German Ocean. Everything seems to be so easy to me, so simple and everything will be okay. Childhood is such an amazing space to find out how pretty the world is and how simple life really is if you doing things which are really meant for you. I really love this song, it gives me a little bit of childhood feeling in its most sensitive way.
