Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another first time reaction with Alanis Morissette and her song "You Oughta Know." My Patreon wanted some Alanis, and here she is. Bad ass, with no shame or regrets. She's laying it all out in this sick track filled with guitars, bass and wicked drums. See my reaction now!

The cross I bear that you gave to me. Its not a physical cross. If you bear a cross it means you have a personal suffering. She's saying it's not fair for him to to give her this pain and misery but not be around to see it or care.

@michaelbrunnock2326

You're kinda right. It's actually a figurative and a literal cross she's talking about. She used a gift he gave her (a necklace) as a symbol of carrying /wearing a sign of her love for him, and when he took the cross back after leaving her....well this song happened lol. It also gives you imagery of Jesus carrying the cross, which showed his dedication and love for God...and was very painful for him to carry.

"The cross I bear that you gave to me" is a reference to the crucifixion, not a gift of a cross pendant or anything like that. She's basically saying that he dumped her and left her with all the pain and didn't even do her the courtesy of witnessing her suffering.

I'm sure others have noted already "The cross I bear" refers not to him giving her an actual cross but rather it's an idiom that means the pain he has caused her, and that's she's still suffering and she's not gonna let him remain ignorant to what he did, nor just pass it off like it's nothing. Here's something about the phrase "A cross to bear" from thefreedictionary "A burden of misfortune, guilt, or other suffering. The term comes from the story of Jesus’s crucifixion, in which a passerby named Simon the Cyrene was stopped and told to carry the cross to be so used to Calvary, the place of execution" They made Jesus do this in order to make him suffer.

Alanis Morissette is alleged to have written this about Dave Coulier. Meanwhile same Full House, John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) had a rocky marriage with Rebecca Romijn. She is from Berkeley, across from my hometown San Francisco 🌁. Also, Ben Affleck was born in Berkeley, months before RR. Great song 👍 This year, Alanis Morissette, Daniel Lavoie, Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance, and David Foster were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. 🇨🇦 🏆 Same year as Jagged Little Pill 💊, Morissette Amon was born.

She's a great singer. No doubt about that. But in my mind what makes it a great song is the sick funky improvised bass line by Flea of the red hot chili peppers. The story behind it. Not sure if this really happened. What i read was: Flea walked in(guess the same studio where the rhcp was recording). He listened to the track and felt the bass line was weak. And the bass line was recorded in 1 take. Jammed full of improvisation. If you know flea's work, you can recognize him instantly. On the radio in Europe/Netherlands this song was not controversial at all because of a f word. They aired Rage against the machine - killing in the name. Even Type o negative - my girlfriends girlfriend got into the charts. They were controversial at that time. Great band btw with a very unique sound. Review love you to death.

Word is that people on the East Coast got 2 hear those parts as it was live, but I live in Arizona, so by the time we in the West Coast saw it, they managed 2 censor it. U can tell in the video how PISSED OFF she was. She held nothing back in her feelings and I know every1 took notice when she says "fuck" knew at that moment she was mad as he'll and the person 2 who she aimed that anger at know how ROYALY PISSED OFF SHE WAS.

I'm not sure what you mean by sick (are you meaning wow, good, great?) but it's sicker than you know. The man she is singing to is Dave Coulier, "Joey" on Full House. She was sixteen when he seduced her. He was in his thirties. I think you don't understand the expression "my cross to bear". It means he left her in tremendous pain, which her lyrics make pretty clear. It refers to Jesus' pain as he was forced to bear the cross he would be crucified on. He's not acknowledging the pain he caused her.
