My wife died 9 weeks ago. I can imagine my wife saying these exact words to me before we were married. These lyrics remind me of things she had said in the past. I’ve listened to this song so many times the last several days. It makes me feel a bit closer to my wife, but also sad. It’s a really good song.

A little historical context for those not old enough to know…. At the time that this video was released, music videos were still culturally relevant (MTV was still actually playing them on something called television), and Alanis Morrissette was the "It Girl" of the moment. This album was at the time the highest-selling debut by a female artist, ever. It has sold over 30 million copies to date, with Billboard magazine declaring it the best-selling pop record of the 1990s. Due to all of these factors, at the time this video was hardly seen as "cheap." Her face alone was more valuable than the most extravagant high-tech special-effects could ever be. At a point when music videos were so relevant that millions of dollars were spent in producing them (and MTV was still playing them), it was a downright radical act for her to release a video consisting of nothing but a close-up of her face. It only made her seem that much more cool. Young people of today: I love you; you're awesome; enjoy your youth, for us old people; but also try to learn a little history along the way, okay? (Oh, one more thing…. Two thirds of the way through this song, she refers to her best friend, "best friends with benefits." That is the origin of the term people still use today: "Friends with benefits.")

I was just a kid at the time, so my own experience with the music video is empty. I abolsutely adore it as an adult now, & even more with this context, so thanks :) A similarly directed video with a separate context is Janelle Monae's "Cold War". A little more dramatic, a little more veiled, but her face & emotions as one of many faces of black America.

I miss the 90's too, I think back to it nearly everyday. The friends, the adventures, the lawlessness, and of course the music. Pearl Jam hit me pretty hard when they came out. When Eddie Vedder started singing you could tell it was coming straight from the soul. The way he would close his eyes and look up and sideways and shake his head as he sang always grabbed me right in the heart. He is the soul of grunge, still to this day.

Listening to Alanis gives me a kind of nostalgia that I don't really get from alot of artists. Her voice just reminds me of a better time, a more innocent time, a time that we just don't get much anymore, if at all. It's bittersweet. Alanis is very ethereal that way.

Alanis already had television experience on a kids show she must have been like 11 or so. Canada already knew her as she had some dance songs with her big hair days. We both cried many times during the show because of the powerful story. This song got me as it did all those years ago. When she says "I've never felt this healthy before" it has always always resonated with me, even before I knew what she meant. Getting older, it is just so clear, when you find that other half of you, someone you genuinely fall head over feet for, you genuinely feel healthier and capable. How many straight dudes out there really feel this music ? I know this album is about a young woman's struggle growing up and it's hard to relate that to a man's experience but there's something about this whole album that hits me deep. She wrote from the heart and really just let it all out. She didn't care what anyone thought. She had a lot of real emotions to write with and what came out is a true masterpiece that is Jagged Little Pill. Every now and then, when I feel like I need to get my head straightened out, I just listen to this album and I always feel better afterwards. I'll have a crush on Alanis Morissette forever !

One of my dearest friends, Dave, passed away on August 3rd. He dedicated this song to me on WKRZ radio station years ago. We never really got together in a relationship kind of way, but we have done a lot together over the years. We became friends in school when we were real young and stayed friends for 50 years. He used to write me love notes in school. I’m close to his whole family. I can’t listen to this song without crying. I miss you so much, Dave😪

Right around the time this song came out, I was in college...and in love with a classmate. The lyrics perfectly described our situation - I've given her hints of my feelings, I treated her like a princess, always held the door for her, etc. I even got a poster of her favorite artist - you've guessed it- Alanis! I remember being so happy everytime we were together, and felt that she was falling for me as well. So when the chorus goes "...You've already won me over in spite of me, And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet..." I knew the song was for us. As it turns out, the feelings were not mutual - when we finally got down to serious talking, she said she just always thought of me as her (male) best friend (without the benefits part = ). She said that by confessing my feelings, it got her confused and didn't know what to do. I guess I misinterpreted our closeness for something beyond just friendship. I was crushed. But beyond my feelings, what pained me more was knowing that our friendship was never going to be the same ever. That night was the first time I truly cried over a girl. Things were a little weird for us a few days after that. But days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months. After some time has passed by, we became comfortable with each other again. We started talking regularly and I felt that our friendship has been rekindled. We've both matured and have moved on. We are now both happily married and have our own families. Although we haven't really kept in touch with each other, the last time we talked was a very good and happy conversation. Certain songs can remind you of a different time in your life. Head Over Feet does that to me everytime I hear it. It takes me back to the wonderful memory of that certain girl, a memory that I will cherish forever.

Purely just Singing in front of an imaginary mirror about her current state of mind with her emotions. Probably cost $10 to make yet 💯 is perfect for it. If this song was made by anyone else today, it would be random sexualisation that has nothing to do with the lyrics & emotion.

This woman was the voice of women in the 90s. One of the best artists of that time. She was everywhere back then. The impact this album had, can not be overstated. Top 3 album of that decade. No question..
