This embodies my whole life. Every year, every trauma, every failure. But we have to keep fighting for ourselves and our neighbors. Thank you @alanismorissette for being brave enough to share our truths. I have adored you since middle school. I’m turning 38 in October. You have always inspired me to speak truth, fight, and show my vulnerability. I believe those who express their feelings openly are much more courageous then those who mask it. Blessings to you. Wow to say all this and a 90's teen *RESPECT* you must be a older soul 💖 never change ☮️ take care and loud love 🌺🎸 I'm 47 born Aug 21st 1972 and you spoke so much truth and depth 💯 always speaking up and keeping it real has kept me grounded in my life especially drug recovery. Drug rehab stressed that - they never spoke anything that failed. God willing I live to it Nov 25, 2020 will be 12 years clean. I had 7.5 years clean not 1 slip up, relapse - zero! My cancer came back a second time end of 2015 and due to DEA raids and CDC guideline overkill changes to pain meds they cold turkey pulled my pain medication (visible tumors etc) and I had my 1st slip up w/7.5yrs clean still breaks my heart but I'm good and didn't let a slip up turn into a fuck up and after 2.5yrs of suffering the cancer reaching the liver and bile ducts I tried Marijuana for pain/vomitting in Aug 2017 as I'm no longer treatment eligible due to Septic Shock due to last chemo's 2016. I'm proud to say a surgery was cancelled and due to honesty to the surgeon in a State where it's illegal & tired of being judged by a past - the plant is documented as credit for the metastatic cancer tumors being gone 🙏🏼 bless you and to all.

Linkin Park Fan 72 what an amazing and beautiful story!! I am an old soul, a hippie at heart and probably 60 and not 38. Thank you for the COURAGE it took to share your journey. Help these younger generations learn the importance of GROWTH and personal evolution. I am not even the same woman I was at even 5 years ago. I keep getting better!

This was STUNNING. So amazing to see the JLP cast again, and hear this new take on the song that’s instrumentally fresh while combining the best vocal elements of Alanis’ and Elizabeth’s original versions. That, plus the incredible expression of frustration in these times, and the beauty (and slight Eastern touch) of the song’s melody... just gorgeous. I needed this. Thank you, all. Can’t wait to see JLP again!! ❤️

Alanis, you are the one artist that always managed to speak what I was feeling. You got me through my teens, 20s, 30s and still in my 40s. I play your music when I am in my craftroom and my creations are always beautiful. Thank you so much for the inspiration, the words I needed to let my past go.

This is so unique and brilliant! "Smiling" is a great song on its own and very depth in meaning. I'm sure it's the "soul" of the new SPFITR album. So happy to see the song has several versions and interpretations it deserves. PS: Looking at Alanis doing that head banging and rotation really reminds me in how energetic and powerful she could be on the stage and performance!! LOVE IT!! ❤️

This deserves many more views! The world is given a free ticket to jagged Little pill the musical covid edition. It's amazing that you get to see the cast from the musical, a song written for the musical performed by the artist who wrote the song and the person in the play that performs the song. All of this for free. I saw the musical it was absolutely fantastic I cried I highly recommend it. It's really really cool that these actors and performers were able to get together and create this masterpiece. I think we need to take a minute to appreciate all the work that they put into this and the thought process involved. Thank you to the cast and to Alanis Morissette for taking the time to entertain us and enlighten us during this time of darkness.

Such an awesome video. The struggles of living through a pandemic is really captured here yet that’s completely not what the song is in regards to. Just very good timing and use of the situation. It really works. Smiling is my new favourite song ever, hands down.
