@@tagulahaz I'm truly sorry you think that, because most of the suffering caused in the world is by us...people who are selfish and greedy who have no regard for humanity or this beautiful planet we're destroying. As an agnostic all my adult life, this song is a good embodiment of my belief about God. It is not some magical being we dial up for favors, peace of mind, material success or to satisfy any other particular need we have. Maybe God is just the better side of each and every one of us plodding through life every day.

As so many people aptly point out, this it NOT Alanis Morissette, it IS Joan Osbourne. It was originally written and preformed by Joe Bazilian (formerly of The Hooters) as a hidden track on one of his CDs, and it was to impress a girl who told him "maybe we weren't even meant to meet". He wrote the song for her, as his way of saying 'maybe god is really just good things on earth, and could be the person you consider a poor slob across from you on the train, make what positives you can in your own life because no one's really calling him on the phone for magic'. However, this was during the period when he was supposed to be concentrating on writing Joan's album, so he played the track for her and asked what she thought of doing it. Joan liked it, the song was a hit. Eric got the girl, married her and I think they have kids now.

God is in all of us. God is the part of us that looks for God. Look in a mirror and see your reflection as just a part of what God sees. God is not the reflection but is the one who sees the reflection. The reflections are what God imagines seeing. Look in the mirror and imagine seeing something else and that is what you will see even with your eyes open. Where do we see what we imagine with our eyes open? Where do we feel what we imagine feeling? Where do these sights and feelings come from? If we focus can we make these imaginings as though they are real? What do we focus on during our day? What do we think about or imagine when the day is over? Do we find these thoughts and imaginings in our daily lives?

Really ?, shame your shit useless God can't and doesn't stop pedo priests and other religious fruitcakes from molesting and raping tens of thousands of underage children each year. Your "loving " God just sits back and watches the horror happen. I guess your God must like it eh. Well after all, he did tell his earthly genocidal armies to slaughter everyone, men, women, children, babies, but spare the virgins, the "women children", and take them for themselves, as it says in the bible. Seems God likes them underage eh. And why is it that on average, 9 million children under the age of 5 years old die every year from mostly preventable and curable diseases, but because they live in mostly poor countries and communities they can't afford the treatments. There are of course many devoutly religious communities and they pray to their "God", but it doesn't work does it, and the children die, because as we know, God doesn't help, and prayer doesn't work. He came, paid the debt from our sin, took it out of the way on the cross, proved His eternal power and Godhead by His resurrection. Because of His love He wants a relationship like that of a good father to his beloved son or friend to friend, heart to heart. He alone is the way, the truth and the life.
