It’s a motherfriggin CRIME that a vocalist this talented didn’t achieve more fame. Just listen to that raspiness, that sultriness, the way she holds a note so softly and switches from one note to the other so effortlessly...so, so skillful.

The outcome yields such a smooth reward to us, the general public, we almost didn't notice due to the fantastic song writing. Likely some of the best musicians in the world at that time. It plays on the radio and nobody really notices because there are no flaws

@@TobiaTesan you can have as many doubts as you like, my friend, but it doesn't alter the facts. One aspect of the song listeners have frequently noted is the tune's distinctive fretless bassline. While a common belief holds that the melody was played using an actual fretless bass guitar, Myles' bassist for the rest of her self-titled album, Steve Webster, acknowledged in an online discussion forum that he did not perform the bassline on "Black Velvet" himself; rather, it was Tyson who played the riff on a synthesizer, using a fretless bass sample.[7]

This song reminds me of my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battle with cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, I miss her smiles, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, life could be so unfair most times but sometimes I wonder why bad things always happen to good people. She’s always in our hearts

@SandcastleTheory5 ай бұрын
She has a GRAMMY, two JUNOS, nominations for 17 other major music awards, and this song was #1 on Billboard. The album went platinum in almost every market around the world, triple platinum in Australia, and diamond in Canada... Now, tell me, how exactly is that "underrated"? Cheers!
@no-oneman.41405 ай бұрын
I was referring to the song itself not the artist or the album. How many people would name this song in their top favourites. That is the point I was making. But having condescending replies like yours makes reading comments such a joy. Please don't reply . Cheers !!!!!
@SandcastleTheory5 ай бұрын
@@no-oneman.4140 Apologies, if I upset you. That was not my intention. Much in the way of tone gets lost in text. My point (if only for posterity) was simply that, evidently, it was a favourite song for millions of people; and, presumably, still is. No higher standards could it have possibly met. I'm not trying to take away your love for the song, or patronize you. Not at all. I'm just saying, underrated it is not, and never was. The use of that word in general, these days, is rampant and frustrating. Whatever might be trending on modern social media, at any given moment, does not reflect the greater state of music, artists, or their fans. Cheers!

Everytime i hear this song, my body turns into a ice block, just by giving me goosbums. But i see my dad everytime when i listen to this. This tune is just perfect. It reminds me of that perfect night when everything is just right. I won't comment Alannah's voice cause she sang this perfectly. Her voice has so much emotion and nostalgia of times which I never lived. But the guitarist really, really nailed it. These are some of the tastiest blues licks ever. The song's opening makes me feel like I'm somewhere in the wild, at the banks of Mississippi. If you haven't, listen to the new version of the song that Alannah recorded recently, it's great.

Talent wasn't the prime driver of who that might be. Met some of em....I wasn't even looked at. Invisible.
