A live recording of Alash Ensemble's 10th anniversary, Chicago concert hosted by The Old Town School of Folk Music in The Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall on February 20, 2016 and sponsored by the non-profit community radio station WHPK - 88.5FM.
The members of Alash are Tuvan throat singers, who use a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. Masters of traditional Tuvan instruments as well as the art of throat singing, they are deeply committed to traditional Tuvan music and culture. At the same time, they are fans of western music. Believing that traditional music must constantly evolve, Alash subtly infuse their songs with western elements, creating their own unique style that is fresh and new, yet true to their Tuvan musical heritage

We heard these guys in concert several years ago and bought a bunch of their CDs. My husband likes to joke that he "knows all the words". Of course he doesn't really, but all these songs are really familiar to us. It's a treat to see this.

@@sciscitatio I corrected my list, "Flute Box" is just the title of the song they did together with Shodekeh, this ist just a murgu solo :-) oh, and it's "Bayan", not "Bayam" (thanks to @ABAOB - Lord of the Strings for correcting me there) And thanks for crediting me, Alone Traveler didn't do that👍

Is it really? I don’t think a complicated instrument like the accordion which was made to withstand at least a year of not being tuned was made from that less processed of materials. Correct me if I am wrong

@Benjamin E Tuvan people are Mongolian by genetics. Centuries and centuries ago they originated from the mongolian land and traveled around. Tuvan people is a part of this party. It's a party of the turkic people and modern day Turks are genetically Mongolian.
