Alaska Bull Moose Style
It's like a dance; there's etiquette involved. Here two middle weight bulls size each other up and the lesser of the two reluctantly agrees to a gentle sparring match. I love how he burps up a cud and chews it while sparring as if he's SO bored with the whole charade. The rut begins! Enjoy and if you like, please subscribe!

Thank you for the lovely comment. This is a sparring match, not a fight. It's designed to allow the bulls to practice with their newly revealed antlers of the season, after they have shed the velvet. It's like a slo motion fight. Very cool to watch. A real fight? Powerful and violent! Thanks again, we appreciate the comment and your being here. Oh, I was at 500 mm with a Nikon 200-500 back then.

While eye injuries are common we have only known of a couple of bulls that lost the eye.

For the size and power of these animals, not a very intense sparring match. As the owner replied on another post, it's not during the rut, so these two are just checking each other out and sizing up. It would be neat to see them in full bull mode!

They are moose, and they are males, bulls. The females are called cows.

You know better than I, but I thought they were fairly evenly matched. Would these two have a real sparring match when things get going?

On indeed these two no doubt went to it hammer and tongs once the girls started showing up to the rut party! We never witnessed this pair fighting, but we did see each fight other bulls, so neither would back down from an even fight. Here it's just not time yet (no cows around...) it got really interesting a bit later. We got two of those fights on video here. Thanks for the comment!

At the start of the rut season, moose "feel each other out" or spar.....rather than the full on fighting...it's fascinating.

It's how they spar, this is not a fight. That's completely different as you can watch in our fight videos.
