I use Swarovski NL PURE 8X32 for my binoculars and KOWA TSN-99S for my field scope. Both look exceptional and I respect both brands. Nice video. Thank you.

Do u find kowa image better than the swaro atx?
@johnconklin5180
@johnconklin5180 9 ай бұрын
I think the fairer comparison would have been the 85 ATX from Swarovski. But the guys are correct that wrong with either. The weight of the Kowa will come into play and the lack of rubberized coating in cold weather will be felt. But no question two great scopes.

We only tested what we had on hand, but I agree, seeing the comparison of the 85 ATX would be awesome!

Based on the phone images alone, the Swarovski scope gives a sharper image. However, if you were using two phones then that would make a small difference, and also the image of the Caribou and the rocks behind looked slightly out of focus in the Kowa image. The light gathering increase provided by the extra 8mm is not as important as you might think. At 60X, the Swarovski provides an exit pupil of 1.33mm. The Kowa at the same 60X gives 1.46mm. Not a lot of difference! Its image contrast and sharpness that is more important, even in low light.

Ko-ah is how its pronounced according to their website, I also was calling it COW-ah before finding this out. Pinnacle of optics for me, depending on sample. Swaro is extra expense perhaps worth it for their EXCEPTIONAL customer service.

Looks like the atmosphere is the limiting factor in clarity are that distance you were looking at those animals from at the end. Which is why magnification above 30× doesn't help much except in really cold environments

Recon pods for aviation got digital post-processing to counter image distortion in long-range shots due to raising hot air, removing color distortion due to smog, etc. to give you more clarity on very long ranges. Perhaps spotting scope manufacturers will develop apps for smartphones that can replicate digital image postprocessing available on recon pods of military, police, and search & rescue aviation to enhance long-range visibility on their products...

I have the Kowa 884 and have had a good experience with it. Lost front cover and Kowa sent me a new one for free . Kowa is the proven one- been in production over 10 years . Kowa started making optics in the late 60's or 70's. I have no experience with the swaro but I have compared it two mine and the swaro seems to colorize the veiw more. To me it seemed artificial - Like turning the color up on your tv . My 2 cents

@@joejeans7913 Don't know if the warranty is the same in the US, but here in Austria Swarovski offers incredible service. A dude I know fell on his Z6i riflescope and literally broke off the elevation turret, send it to Swarovski and got it repaired for some 150€ in 3 weeks. And from personal experience: My EL-Range binoculars electronics suddenly started to misbehave while already officially out of warranty, called their customer support, send them in and got them rebuilt (they exchanged everything that was just slightly out of spec, not just the electronics) free of charge because "the electronics should not fail on our products". Also they stock all of their authorised dealers here with all the small parts you'd need to replace or loose sometimes (like objective or turret covers) to give to customers free of charge.

@@joejeans7913 at this level unless you have very good vision you will not see much difference . I'm just wondering when the technology comes out to eliminate the heat waves. If they do I bet it will be heavy.

Pretty sure the original zeiss diascopes still can match or beat anything available today. Wish you had the chance to test it. Only 51 oz too. Especially the 65mm diascope is incredibly good resolution and still better light transmission than any kowa, meopta, leica or swaro made today (slightly). But zeiss coatings allow so much blue light through that in low light 65mm scopes from zeiss match 80-85mm scopes from other brands. Meopta actually made the diascopes for zeiss under contract (they say made in Czech Republic on the bottom) but with zeiss coatings. The new meopta s2 is killer especially with the ultra wide 30-60 eyepiece. I can't imagine a kowa out resolving that s2 but could be wrong. Still it's clear even the wide angle kowa 25-60 eyepiece it doesn't have near the 66 degree afov of the meopta. I prefer the 65 mm spotters to save a pound on the spotter and another pound on the lighter tripod. Probably all the high end brands rock. Thanks for doing the work of the reviews.

When I buy optics I buy on resale value . Swaro is king just saying.. Also the wide angle 25-50 on the swaro is way better and more field of view but both top of the line spotters.
@MindbodyMedic
@MindbodyMedic Жыл бұрын
have you tested side by side with 883 wide angle zoom? If you can accept the extra cost the Swaro probably edges it on customer service/warranty alone. Important consideration with optics of this value.

I have always been a Swaro guy, but recently switched to the Kowa 883 because it was a noticeably better view compared to the ATX. Both amazing, but the Kowa was better to my eye.

Would love to see you guys compare the new US$380 Svbony SV406P to the Kowa. Both have almost the exact same design but I'm not sure how much different they are in terms of image quality.

It would be a night and day difference. There really isn't a comparison. The Kowa is generally understood as the absolute best in it's class. There lots of forums which argue the merits of the Swarovski or Kowa top of the line spotter and which is better, but one thing is for certain and that is that the Kowa TSN 880 series controls chromatic aberration noticeably better than the Swarovski because of the fluorite crystal elements. Everything else is hard to compare unless one is experienced and specifically testing parameters in a very deliberate way. Scope to scope variance can tip the scales either way. I would personally recommend the vortex viper spotter if the budget is tight. That's about as cheap as I would go. All of these really cheap spotters really show their flaws once one raises the magnification. Resale is poor and they optically suck. The viper gets one a good product price/performance considered.

You know the funny thing about how he pronounced Kowa? I understood exactly what he was saying. If you say Kowa with a southern island, Japanese accent it sounds just like he said. If you use an accent from the north-east rural area it sounds just like you're saying. If your an American, white male, sitting in the bush of Alaska glassing bear and caribou, and say "Kowa" - it sounds just like the guy recorded in this video says. Does any of this really matter? If you didn't know any other Japanese and looked at the Emperor of Japan and said "Kowa Company, LTD" I think he would know what you're saying. But I get your point. Even though I wore a uniform with my name embroidered on a name tape, people still called me be the wrong name. LoL

thanks for video, think it would of been fair to get the same by using the swaro 85 or 95, obviously they would have given more light and then most likely been your choice, the only difference I heard really was the amount of light and an 80 compared to a 88 was not a fair comparison, maybe next time get a fair comparison, but still enjoyed the video, thks

They’re not identical specs but lots of folks are curious about performance based on weight, size, and price. These two scopes are similar prices, similar weights, and size. Pretty sure the video acknowledges the objective differences.

The 95mm ATX is about a $4k set up.. to us the specs and and almost identical price tag of the 80mm ATS and the Kowa 88 made it a very close comparison.
