Alaska Fisherman 2016 : Purse Seining

Commercially fishing for salmon off of the coast of SE Alaska on the F/V Quandary during the summer of 2016.
This video shows in real time the process of bringing the fish aboard, from the moment the skiff brings the net around to the boat until about 2,000 lbs. of salmon hit the deck.

I'm a green horn age 12 and doing quark any tips and we don't use a ring we use a 40 ft boat and the quark is in front the bythe fish hole the seine is 150 phatoms

I fished herring off the coast of Maine and some sets were close to 350 thousand pounds!

I fished herring in Prince William Sound Alaska. We had a 420 ton set there.

Why did you guys switch to piling the corks to the port side and leads to starboard after you got pursed up? Just an Old School SE, False Pass, and Puget Sound deck hand from the 70’, 80’s :)

It evens out the pile's weight distribution and is a more efficient use of deck volume

Splitting the net distributes the weight of the leads and the volume of the corks so the boat doesn't list and the pile isn't huge on one side.

Dude in the beginning is coiling the line(not rope, LINE) the wrong way. Hence the sloppy coil. The dude stacking corks is alright but can tell hes new.
