In winter if your feet always seem to be cold, get an old windshield cover, the silver bubble material and cut out an “insole” of this material and put it in your shoes. It’s a great insulator as well as “reflecting” the heat of the foot / body instead of it being drained through ice and cold.

2 or 3 years ago, I followed your advice to store water in used soda bottles, even outside. When we were without electricity for a week, I used that water to wash floors, the cars, flush toilets etc. That was the best advice ever. I still stack up on that. And never regretted doing so. You could also use the little pouch and put in on your person with your cash and ids, so if your purse is stolen they don’t get your license and insurance cards ect.

Basket-style coffee filters - I stock up on these from the dollar stores...useful for more than coffee: mask filter insert; sturdier than table napkin; great for holding a hotdog or sandwich (instead of a paper plate); helpful in homemade water filtration (before boiling or bleaching the water) for drinking.

Keep the boxes, collapse them and use for fire starter? Just an idea just starting to learn about prepping. Trying not to throw anything away. Even toilet paper rolls again for fire starter. If prepping you don’t always have opportunity to use your saved items. How donu store it all?

I’ve been buying the 2.5 gallon bags at dollar tree. That’s how I’ve been doing my meals in a bag. Now I have plenty of room for the water needed and a few bouillon cubes

You can put wasted up newspapers in the jar and put the lid on, it will absorb the odors in a couple of days

because I live in a small apartment I use small jars for water storage as well as food storage. I like to havbe small travel siZe hygiene products in addition to the full size versions

Here are a few other items for people to have on hand: Shoelaces, old rags/towels/T-shirts, dental floss, scissors (all sizes/types), WD40/lubricants of all types & uses, baking soda, vinegar (all types), manual can opener/bottle opener, eyeglass repair kit, shoe/boot waterproofing and sole-repair products, buckets all sizes/types

Thankyou Alaska Granny I am going to use small jars thankyou. I add sanitary pads or tampons to my preper kit. They have two uses ..first for sanitary use ..second use...the pads are good for putting on a large wound and bandaging, the tampons are good for adding to a fire for lighting getting it going could be a campfire or fireplace ...I tried this and it works.

Overlooked items that I think will be necessities are SAFETY PINS, needles and thread. I bought thread in bulk online, (Sometimes as cheap as two s[pools in the stores), and Walmart has been having clearances on different-sized needles. GLUES of all kinds, especially Superglue for first aid, and TAPES of all kinds. Absolutely I have laid in aluminum, paper and foam plates, plastic cutlery, wax and parchment paper, and ziplock bags from snack to extra large. I do the same about doubling up on boxes. I always keep jars, and often plastic containers, even the really flimsy ones, so I can give things away and not expect to get them back or keep things from being crushed. I grab small cheaper items that are on sale, like Chef Boyardee Mac and Cheese, or Vienna sausages to give away. Socks and underwear are on sale for back-to-school and go-to-college sales. (So are linens, towels, blankets, etc. right now.)

Those resealable plastic food bags are excellent for organizing small items in a backpack or bug out bag and for keeping spare socks and clothing in that backpack dry if you are walking in the rain. And you could use a plastic bag to carry extra water if you found a working outdoor spigot or water fountain (double bag to prevent leaks).

Most of the ads allow you to skip watching them after three or four seconds, so they don't interfere too much. It would be ashamed if you stop watching because of that - you might miss something important that would help you in the future.
