My grandpa always told me, never put yourself in a situation where you might have to fight your way out or get yourself in trouble and always keep your eyes and ears open. They are the best tools to use in the outside world

ALL these things! Also: 1. Park your car as close to the entrance door as possible; in a lighted area; in view of security cameras. 2. Avoid parking structures when possible. Park as close to the elevator as possible. Be aware of people / persons in the area where you are parking. 3. Be aware of who is in the area when you get off the elevator and return to your car. 4. Avoid shopping alone if possible. Especially if you are older.

Never talk about any departures or arrivals in public, Always hit the floor if gunfire starts inside your building, Don’t assume cops know you’re a good guy, high anxiety or big excitement can appear menacing, Super nice clothes stick out Never get in your car with the car jacker, …throw your keys so he can’t grab you Always look thru your back seat window before getting in your car to make sure no one is hiding inside your car before you get open the front door to get in, Have a password So that your kids or spouses ect, can KNOW your message or changed plans are TRULY from you. If you are prepping, try not to buy more than half a shopping cart at each store. If you unload your car where the neighbors can see you, consider leaving some items in the car overnight.

I FIRMLY believe in hunkering down and avoid going out in SHTF, but you are right, anything can go down at any time. SCREAMING is the last thing you want to do. Nothing could be less helpful and can make yourself a target. You don't want to wear flashy jewelry or obviously expensive clothing these days so you don't make yourself a victim; it's happening too openly and boldly. Do not give out names when talking on the phone in public. I don't listen, but you can't help but hear everything about a person who is sitting or standing next to you. (Besides, it's annoying!) We changed our lighting to LED bulbs, so we can afford to leave our outside lights on 24/7, so if we forget or run late the lights are on and no one knows if we are in or not, because if they start watching, those lights are always on. Never wear flipflops in public! If you are wearing heels, keep other shoes with you.There are folding 'ballerina' shoes that fold up into a 3-4 inch square. If you have to run, or just even walk, you can't do it in flipflops or stilettos. If you have to get away Gut feelings...listen to them.

Some years ago, my friend prepared me similarly for a ride on the NYC subway. She rearranged my clothes and bag so I blended in better. She said "and don't do that VT thing of looking at everyone as you pass, you won't know anyone" lol that was a good one because here in VT it's rare to go out and don't see someone you know

We live in Vermont too, and I just can’t break my husband of this habit! I swear, that man would talk to a stick. Once we were in eastern Washington and we stopped in Moses Lake to buy fuel. He struck up a conversation with a guy at the gas pump and next thing I knew we were touring his machine shop and having dinner with his family. I don’t think of myself as unfriendly, but he takes things to such an extreme.❤️🇺🇸

NEVER wear a top with a pattern or a logo.. ever listen to the police bolos ?? wearing a white tee with a skull on the front..As for routines...my husband taught situational awareness his last two years in the Army...after he was medically discharged myself and our boys became his only students. He was always after me about my routines...One evening i was out and called to let him know I would be home in 15 minuts. I opened the garage door a few feet from the drive way, pulled in, shut the garage door and then opened the door to the truck...he popped out behind the truck scaring me to death. I was locked in my garage.. He waited at the corner until I started in and ran in right behind me..I always did it that way, thought it was safest..Its NOT.

Good points. Remember bad guys look for opportunities and easy targets. In every day life limit the jewelry and expensive looking bags. Drive a reliable modest car instead of a luxury model. I know someone who was robbed for fake flashy chains and a ring. She was carrying a fake Dooney and Bourke purse. He got the bag which was only worth $20 and had $15 in cash, no credit cards. Someone at the job I had got car jacked at a gas station because he drove a bmw which the crook singled out from several other cars there.

Good advice! I would add: Wear sensible shoes that you can walk in easily, and quickly if necessary - not spike heels, platforms, or shoes that would l restrict your movement!

My daughter read that if you think someone is following you that you take 4 left turns, if they are then go to a police station and sit there for a while, and then leave hopefully, that person, has taken off. If you can get some information like the plate number, color, make and model and let the police know. 😊

I did that and the man who was trying to talk to me just dropped his pants as I pushed the police panic button. They came out after he realized where I had led him to. Later they caught him doing the same thing to a person with a child. He was arrested then let go ( he had violent felony charges and sexual misconduct with minors on his record) when he was judged incompetent for trial. He did everything again just like before and was arrested again the same day he was let go...

When free stuff is being offered following an SHTF event, line up with everyone else and receive your ration... that way people don't start getting suspicious, wondering why you don't "need" those supplies.

A lot has to do with how you walk. Also- for women-don’t carry a large hold everything “ old lady” bag. It signals “ rob me”. When I lived outside the US I was told never wear any kind of jewelry, no “ on the back” backpacks and wear shoes I could run in. You never know.

Agree! When I moved from a small city in WA State to Boston for a job, one of my co-workers (from Oregon) took me into the city via public transportation. She asked me to carry an umbrella with me. She taught me to stand tall, put a "don't mess with me" look on my face, and use that umbrella as a weapon if I had to. Also, after researching many sources for safety info, I no longer carry totes. I have a cross body bag and if the weather allows, I put a jacket over it. Small things, but they could definitely keep a person from being approached or worse.

Nothing screams “tourist” like a backpack on the front, sorry but that makes a person stick out as a target for scammers and pick-pockets, -at least in most of Europe. Just don’t carry anything valuable on your back, conceal it and wear backpack like a normal person.

I learned a lesson about sticking out a few years ago while on vacation. I was wearing my best clothes and kept getting bummed for money by the homeless . That made me start thinking that I could be targeted next . I wear older nondescript clothing now when on trips .

My hair is naturally gray now and that makes me invisible. It worked today without trying. The volunteer coordinator that I volunteer for didn't even recognize me today. I was also wearing a non-descript white t-shirt and khakis...

Important when traveling overseas not to wear anything that shows "I am from USA". No need for American flag attire. They are proud of their own flag.. Use a crossbody purse. Blend in to their attire. I always keep my car keys in my front pocket.. I also keep my passengers doors locked, so the only entry into my car is the driver's side.

I went to a casino with a friend and we could not find the way out, no exit signs, the exit doors were blended into the wall. We had to ask. I guess the idea is not to have people leave.

Also. I red in suspense book....red at night...looks black. I have main colors, black, a lot, Grey, brown, tan, navy blue..a little. Standard colors for women working . Mature women. Not young girl clothes. It is the basics. But, I need more black. Not going around in Grey camo definitely not camo at all. Well, I wear make up. I am 78. Size detriment. No matter what martial arts, defence classes you take....a man is stronger. Even one your size. This is for any age of woman. By being aware of situations, you do at times meet eyes of other people. It cannot be avoided. If not looking left, right. Front and behind you, then you are not being aware. The clothes And no jewelry. Do not wear. I do wear small pierced earring balls. Always tennis shoes if shopping. This is not directed to the 2, 2 or 3%, people, because, they will not be watching this channel. AG has been in many countries. I think more situational awareness than most people. My dad was career military. On a base, you never used to even think about this in 50'S and 60'S. Now. We are in 2024. I have really lived a few places. But, not since as an adult. I have lived in a large metroplex area. Now, the only maybe really guarded areas are for the very wealthy. Not average person. I need to move. The area is chgng. , rapidly. Only going 65 mi. Out to small towns, might be option. But, you do not have conveniences on every corner to shop needs. I like Grey and black. But, it is rememorable too. Blessings. 😊

Wash it enough and it will turn gray. All black is the uniform for many restaurants because it's easier to keep clean looking...unless you have a white cat.

Thanks, these are good tips. I think now as the economy gets harder, people will look for those that seem to have expensive clothing and accessories, although right now there are many out there that just will snatch a purse or wallet even if you don't have more than a couple of dollars. Try to not always be looking at your cellphone so you can keep aware and not distracted. Such a good point about oversharing on social media, I see so many that post picture of their homes, kids, etc. Heard that same thing about the petitions, plus you don't know who that person is and who they are gathering information for - they might say they are getting signatures for something and it's really gathering information for anyone or group that paid them to get that information. Some might be gathering information for example to see who is an opposing political party and where they live. We do the same using cash whenever we can. Yes, gut feeling and intution is part of human nature and we need to take it seriously.

Sorry, disagree…to be the gray man now…must have tattoos, piercings, uneven and wild haircuts colored in whacko colors, rainbow wear. Times have changed. They are going after normal looking people …combed hair, clean clothes,etc. It doesn’t matter what what color you wear or how baggy your clothes are. They will spot you a mile away. Times have changed. I’m not changing myself for the idiots…just staying aware of them.
