Hi Guys! Alaska Air Taxi Pilot here. I take a lot of folks like you in & out of hunt cabins all over. Nice riverbank landing! Nice hunt cabin site in the works too! I'll give you an easy tip to keep your buildings ""Bear proof" Get a lot of wood planks like 8" by 3" by 10' or however long is easy for you. Then drive rows and rows of nails thru them. Then just simply anchor them in a perimeter around whatever building or area your protecting. Once a bear steps on a bed of nails it will back out right quick! You can make two or 3 rows of them. Experiment. Find which works best for you. Also build some concrete block fire pits. Its a simple matter to have burning fires going, when your trying to get some shuteye. Bears not going to be so quick to approach open fires. Recently I have been experimenting with fence razor wire....stainless steel kind .... Around the entrance to my underground food storage place. I'm not a hunter, so won't get drawn into the best gun, best round debate. Since growing up here I have had to shoot my share of charging browns. Talk about a "Panic Attack"... I carry a 12 gag shotgun, with rifled slugs having burning magnesium tips. Takes 3 to 4 to drop one and one more to kill. I was watching a KZfaq channel where this fellow is designing and making extremely powerful shotgun rounds. Makes a slug seem like a 22. So check it out if you have interest. Best Wishes!

I doubt that "ready to charge" brown bear was even aware of you. It sure wasn't acting like it knew humans were around. Also, I assume you would be hunting down wind and the sounds of the river would prevent the bear from hearing you.

For people saying the .308 round might seem small- also you have a semi automatic and decent capacity. So you can shoot several times fairly quickly. Way faster than a bolt action. So missing or not making the first shot count might be less catastrophic if you can make a fast follow up. Different drawbacks and advantages from a bolt gun.

I've known people that have taken brown bears with 10 mm handguns and a friend took 1 with a compound bow RIP John

308 may be a little light , but a good all copper federal gold medal match would be a better choice for ammo. it has been used in Europe and Alaska on medium game.better would be the 45-70 minimum and a 454 for a pistol

Congratulations ! 308 will kill anything in north America with proper shot placement. If you don't have anything bigger than a 45acp id recommend hardcast +p ammo. But I'd personally use a 454 or 44 mag. Just because I already have them . Thanks for the video it is beautiful up there. Good hunt and God bless.

Really good video. A blind man on a running horse can see you're not undercapitalized ... So, I use a Desert Eagle .44 Mag sidearm. Not good for you for many reasons. Colt has come out with a great new .44 Mag (Anaconda) with a 6" barrel that would be great for You. Use "only" the Hornady XTP in 240 grains. It both penetrates and mushrooms for big game. It will "never" jam. Stay with the M4 platform, but I'm using a built Beowulf .50 Cal. along with a muzzle brake. Use "only" the Hornady XTP in 350 grains. You can listen to all the BS that will be posted, but in reality, neither will bother you with recoil. I can put 5 rounds inside a quarter at 100 yards with my scope, but if i were hunting Brown's I would use iron sights as You do. Again ... nice video and we're looking for more.

Always carry more gun than you’re gonna need.

I'd be a little bit uneasy regarding stopping a charging bear with 7.62 x 39...especially considering it's semi-auto and could fail at a critical moment. I prefer a bolt or lever action rifle and a revolver backup. .444 Marlin lever action,, and a.454 Casul revolver will stop any bear regardless of how accurate you shoot.

A buddy of mine used to hunt black bear and grizzly with a .22 magnum pistol and rifle. Get onto of a 10bto 12 foot stump with a smudge pot filled with cakes and doughnuts . Used to shoot them in the mouth or in the ear . He was a very good shot. Every deer or elk he took was will a head shot in the ear. He had a special spot in Wyoming and sat a a watering hole at the picnic table He set up . When the deer jumped the fence he would shoot them . 6 a day . Back when a dollar was worth 75 cents. He has the Boone and crocket for biggest pig in wash state Bud Howard Pears. I miss him as much as his hunting stories. His good lock charm was a rabbits foot and a buckskin condom.... He had to prove he was older than dirt.

This is the way Elmer Fudd hunts. Pretty good shot but real brave white man shooting it damn near a hundred yards with field sites that's an accomplishment but it's cheating. Hunting brown bear with a .308??? One could say you have a death wish or just plane lucky. And a .45 ACP as a backup??? I'd say the planets lined up in your favor on that day. I don't think I'd make it a habit going after brown bear with a .308. While they will do the job, you might get your a$$ owned with a bigger bear. Just sayin"

Like every I saw in this video the camp setup and everything else even no problem with the 45 for backup! And even though yes 308 is a little light for big bear I won't say it's not enough!
