Seth L I respect them and their way of life irrespective of our ecclesiastical/theological differences. They seem far more blameless in their Christianity than I am. In my own tradition, we tend to be less rigid about historic divides between fellow Christians. Also, I’m not “Oriental,” I am of mixed Anglo and North African descent. Not a fan of the “Oriental Orthodox” moniker. It always seemed very artificial and contrived to me.

They speak Old Church Slavonic. They are actually no different than any Eastern Orthodox Christian, except they did not want to change to Modern Russian in their language, at home or in church. They wanted to keep the language of the Old Church Slavonic, which by the way in the lower 48 states many of the Russian Orthodox Churches still use in Divine Liturgy. Why does MSM always have to make a big deal about such things when it's really nothing at all; they are Eastern Orthodox as all of us, who are members of the One True Faith. MSM once again trying to disparage Russia and all that is Eastern Orthodox. Eastern Orthodoxy which by the way you have no understanding of, with your western roman christianality; yes protestantism came from western roman christianality. Not from the One True Faith, Orthodoxy.

Thank God, some Old Believers returned to unity with the Orthodox Church. The rest are technically in schism, though they hold to Orthodox beliefs, kind of like the "True Orthodox" and "Genuine Orthodox" schismatics. The Old Believers are a schismatic movement of the Russian Orthodox Church. The reason for this phenomenon is Ukraine. In the XVII century, the Muscovite Kingdom, as the heir of Kievan Rus, expanded and could afford to return Kiev and the lands of Ukraine (this word means "Outskirts") under his care. However, by this time the Greek rite had become dominant in Ukraine, and with the Muscovite Kingdom the rite was different. For the sake of the return of Ukraine and the role of the great authority of the Constantinople rite, Russia went to the displacement of its ancient rite! This happened under Patriarch Nikon. Technically, not only was the rite different, work was required on translations and errors in the texts of the service, but ordinary people did not understand these translation errors, and the only thing that caught their eye was a "new rite". The dissenters became known as Old Believers

Not the Oldbelievers are schismatic, but the Newbelievers(New "Orthodoxes", niconians), who broke away from the ancient Church of Christ. The Newbelievers were it, who banned their rightious ancestors and their orders they followed. The Oldbelievers are continuing the ancient Orthodox Church until yet and fo so until the second coming of Christ, while the Newbelievers took and copied many unchristian manners and customs from Papism, Protestantism and even from Islam, what not very likely leads to salvation...
