Yeah, I often disagree with him... Bur wow! He has such a sharp mind and is so passionate that I can't help admiring him. Although now I can see how Malcolm Tucker was based on him.

Just a perfect illustration of how bad the country was being run at that time that the presenter had to literally ask the guest/Alastair what the gov should be doing lol and Alastair literally spells it out for them, even reading a step by step list

Sure - spin doctors have always existed. However, New labour was the turning point where British politics became nothing but a media / image carnival and this man was instrumental in that change. I think a lot of present turmoil is a result of the British public trying to get their political culture back after this man killed it and replaced it with something useless

I think you should watch last speech of Malcolm F Tucker. There he explains what politics has become and it's no ones fault but ours. So how dare he to put this at his doorstep like he's the criminal mastermind behind all the bad things that happened since then. Social Media and Cambridge Analytica fluffed us even more.

Do you really think that the way politics is communicated is entirely down to a cabal of people like Campbell? They don't operate in a vacuum, the environmental conditions of the modern world has necessited this media obsessed, image conscious form of political management because absolutely everything is recorded and noted by the general public and parties can lose an election over their leader eating a bacon sandwich. We call them incompetent if they can't media manage and we call them image obessessed when they're good at it; maybe we as a country need to take a long hard look at our values and start picking our politicians on things that matter. Until then whether you like it or not people like Alistair Campbell will need to exist.
@magrathean0
@magrathean0 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexboston343 I agree. It is down to society-wide changes in the perception. Campbell was instrumental in cornering the political debate around 'image', but, i agree he isn't singularly and only to blame. A large pert of the change can be seen in the shift in the way products are advertised - a shift from plain communication to image / lifestyle /fantasy communication. It is all a horrendous mistake that has left a large part of our population unable to think clearly.

You are so wrong, this the where spin doctors used a spin doctor as a scapegoat. The conservative party and right wing media used this as an execution to the centre left, and from there the the left. I hope that the conservative party dies and that we elect people who tax their properties to HELL.

@Road Runner people still praise Churchill and the empire. Yes he did win us the war and he saved us from a nazi invasion. But he was a racist who thought whites were superior. The empire colonised and murdered millions. But majority still support them on one little fact with WW2.

The majority supported it at the time - even the Tories can't say "you supported the Iraq War" because _they_ supported it in greater numbers than Labour ever did. The Iraq War is one of those examples of people attempting to retroactively paper over history in order to make themselves or a group of people look better (or conversely, another person or group of people look worse). "In ten or twenty years time, people will say no-one wanted Brexit. People will say they voted Remain when they actually voted Leave - just like those who supported the Iraq War at the time, but are now saying they opposed it."
