He's known for going big but this was something else. Alastair Cook showed his extreme powers of concentration and mental strength, as he struck his highest ever Test score of 294 against India. Cook's knock lasted 13 hours and was the 6th highest innings by in English batsmen in history. Can he repeat such form this time around?

Cook was never the kind of player for a highlights reel of fours and sixes. Cook was the kind of player that you would sit and watch for an hour, as he nudges a nurdles ones and twos without a care. Then you looked at the scoreboard and realised that you'd been there for four hours and he'd scored 50 without you noticing. My favourite batsman of the modern era.

Overrated 100. Statpadded on a flat pitch against a weak aging Indian team. When cook played against real fast bowling(Johnson 2013 and Starc Cummins Hazlewood in 2017 ashes) he got owned. Most overrated player

The patience he stored was amazing and unique,My favorite test batsman and the other thing is that he never shows or became overconfident. Nobody can replace him in the same manner. FACT:Done debut by hitting a hundred against India and ended by again doing the same. I see a glimpse of him in Cheteshwar Pujara!

But when I was of 9 the indian team toured England in 2014 but they lost to them by 3-1 due to virats poor performance in that tour. I still remember that horrible test series. But in that tour there was a series of one day international and there india thrashed England by 3-1 india wasn't letting england make a comeback in that odi series in England. This tour was the best tour i have ever witnessed

I remember this match, at that time we were living in our hometown, I was in class 6th and now I'm in 4th year (class 14th) and I'll remember this beautiful inngs of Cook forever. I remember when he got out I was very angry on Cook not reaching to 300. Lots of love from Pakistan.

India's bowling back then was a joke. Praveen Kumar bowled at 128 kmph, sreeshant amd Ishant at 135. Thank God we now have Shami and Bumrah, also Ishant has improved

I really wish he had gone on for a few more years - he was a serious contender to go past Sachin's test records, but alas it wasn't meant to be! Wish England just let him be better - I still feel Bell, Pietersen and Cook had a few more years left in them, but some mismanagement is what cost England and the world these terrific cricketers!

Yeah it's interesting to think about where he ranks for England in terms of openers...Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Boycott, Gooch...it's amazing to think he's talked about in that kind of company really. A pure opener.

@@BigAidsIII i have him tied with Gooch for 2nd with Boycott as 1st. To be great is one thing........but to be great for so long is rare. Boycott excelled in 3 eras while Gooch and Cook excelled in 2 eras. Really remarkable as players. Those 3 are separate from the rest for me as England batters and all are openers.
