Joan Antoni Hava i Ferré, stage name Antonio Alba (Reus, December 7, 1873 - Santiago de Chile, 1940) was a Catalan guitarist, music teacher and composer who settled in Chile. He studied solfeggio, singing and piano in Reus with Josep Maria Ballvé. Later he learned to play the guitar -which would become his favorite instrument, the bandurria, the mandolin, the harp and the organ. In 1890, at the age of 17, he emigrated to South America, and five years later he settled in Valparaíso where he worked as a music teacher and director of the choir of the Sociedad de Beneficiencia de Valparaíso. In 1903 he made a study trip to Europe to visit the conservatories of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, London, Naples and Milan. Later he moved to Santiago de Chile, and in the Chilean capital he worked as a guitar teacher; his disciple Liliana Pérez Corey would become the main trainer of guitarists in the country and creator of the guitar chair at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile. In his American stay, Antonio Alba composed dances and pieces for singing, paying special attention to the rich Chilean folklore. 400 pieces are attributed to him, 250 of which were edited by "C. Kirsinger & Cª" of Valparaíso. He also published in "Sindicato Musical Barcelonés - Dotesio editorial de música" in Barcelona, in "Unión Musical Española" in Madrid and "Henry Lemoine et Cie" in Paris.
