These cities now are within Slavic states and the names are very different. Why are they different? Because linguists claim they follow purely Albanian phonetic evolution. Skupi > Shkup, Astibus > Shtip, Naisus > Nish, Skardus > Sharr, all following Albanian phonetic evolution. The Romans and Greeks called them by the ancient names because they wrote them down, but you didnt exist during that time and the only names you heard of were the names the Albanians were calling them.
