Cockpit view of Albatros Aero Il-14T, one of only two airworthy Il-14s. The aircraft is seen during a positioning flight from Orlovka to Vatulino, both airports are West of Moscow. Thanks to the friendly Albatros Aero group of enthusiasts for making this flight possible.

Шикарный самолет для Севера . В Полярной авиации на нем летали настоящие асы... Садились на льдины , ночью , заходили в тумане , практически без точных посадочных систем . Давелось лететь пассажиром из Черского в Тикси, комфорт , мягкая вибрация , меньше , чем в Ил 18 .. Пилотировать не пришлось . После Ан 2 , сразу Ту 134 , Як 42 , Ил 86 ... КБ Ильюшин- самое пассажирское авиапроизводство. На Ил 14 катастроф было немного, по тех причинам - вообще не припомню . Ил 86 , Ил 96 вообще не убили ни одного пассажира... Не много таких примеров в мире

Watching the co-pilot manoevering the plane, you can see that his hands are feeling every twitch and buffet from the control surfaces, real old fashioned flying, marvellous.

This is real piloting, today's planes basically fly themselves with the pilot mostly just adjusting computer knobs, I bet lots of pilots miss the old days.

Very neat. Looks like fun to fly but I wouldn't want an engine failure on takeoff. Any idea why both pilots appear to be flying the aircraft at the same time? Normally, the pilot not flying doesn't keep their hands on the controls.

they train pilots this way in USSR: WHEN CAPITAN and second -pilot hold hands on "stick" , but the CONTROLS make one of them in fact....

The Russians received a lot of DC 3 aircraft during the Great Patriotic War (ww2) and found them to their liking so they made their own version, strengthened for rough landing strips. This is one going strong!

Nope. Lisunov Li-2, that was our version of DС-3. As of Il-14, it was much more complicated and advanced design. In fact, Il-12 was designed to replace Li-2 at central airlines, and then we re-designed her again (new wing, empennage etc.) to come to Il-14.
