🚀 ALBERT SANZ: The Importance of Singing as an Improviser LIVE Masterclass (3-Day FREE Trial!) DETAILS: JazzHeaven.com/live
Structuring a musical discourse from singing (and talking!)
#albertsanz #jazzmasterclass #jazzheaven
✨Albert covered:
👉🏼 How to develop our ability to play what we sing by mastering intervals
(Ear-training exercises & voice-instrument connection)
👉🏼 How speaking relates to musical rhythm & structure in music
👉🏼 Converting music into text & vice versa
👉🏼 Hearing the chord changes internally & singing bass lines
👉🏼 Drawing harmonies from the voice as in Choro music from Brazil
👉🏼 Hearing “outside” harmonies & displaced resolutions
🗣️ WRITES ALBERT:
"Improvisation in music is conversation.
The rules we follow in music are the same rules we use when speaking with others, so to be understood and heard, we have to create rhythm as we speak, form clear sentences and try to tell stories, create tension, release tension, ask questions, express emotions, and listen, while at the same time interact and be human and participate in the most beautiful aspects of jazz music: interaction & spontaneity.
To do so in music, we allow our spontaneous creativity to flow without thinking, and we need to possess the ability to play as if we were talking.
That’s the ideal connection I want to make here:
How can we play the same way we talk and sing?
My goal is to show you how fun and endlessly creative it can be if we approach improvisation and composition from this point of view!"
