This is from Alberta Distillery Ltd, owned by Beam/Suntory. Whistlepig, Masterson's, Cooper Spirits to name a few all use ADL Rye, which is basically MGP of the north. I have versions of AP Rye ranging from 20 to 30 years old. Considering this is about 5 years old and $65 Cad in Canada it is a decent value. This did not even win Canadian Whisky of the year in Canada, but I certainly enjoy it,

That's great info! Thanks for sharing -- really interesting that they sell to so many brands. Would love to try some of their older stuff! If this is only 5 years old.. well, damn, I'd love try 20-30 year versions! But, back to Jim Murray.. World Whisky of the Year? I dunno about that, haha!

@@DrumsAndDrams Of course it isn't, but this is just 1 man. Was 1792 FP worthy, EHT 4 Grain, CR NHR? Like I stated, AP CS is a favorite and very popular. but failed to win Canadian Whisky of the Year in Canada which went to Pike Creek 21 year Oloroso finish. Stagg jr was not worthy of 2nd best either IMO.

I thought the ethanol was subdued for 132 abv. It tastes exactly like what you think a rye up front and a Canadian at the back would taste like. I dig it.

I think it could be that this was a fairly recently opened bottle, but could also be my unfamiliarity with the style to be honest! I’m going to revisit soon I think 🤔 maybe on another Second Chance Sunday livestream haha (not that this was necessarily a bad review or anything!)

@@DrumsAndDrams Jim Murray reviewed batch #1. You're drinking batch #2, which is widely regarded as not being quite up to par with the others.

Great video. This is THE highest abv Canadians have for quite some time, so it offers a bit of a buzz. ALongside KnobCreek 60% SB, this is my daily sniff-sit-and-gulp dram.

I thought of buttered rye toast with green apple slices on top. I enjoyed it very much.

I thought it went down surprisingly easy for 133 proof. I liked it quite a bit, but after only a few small pours I was already feeling a buzz,... so like you, I don't grab for it often and expect to have it on the shelf for a couple of years. If I drank whisky with Coke, I suspect that this would perform VERY well in that role. Nice review, I'm going to check out some more of your videos.

Thanks for checking it out! I'm going to revisit this one very soon, just haven't quite been in the mood recently. Will be curious to see if it has changed at all from how I remember it, or maybe I'll just be more acclimated to its profile. Cheers!

I was sceptical with this rye. But I picked up a bottle anyways and I was pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed this. For me it was the finish, It just go's on and on and on. I wish they would release something in between the cask and the 80 proof, like a nice 100 proof.
