In this video I take a look at Spitfire Audios new Albion 3 ICENI sample library. This library focuses on the low and dark sounding orchestral elements. In the video I have a written a short track and uses as the basis to show how I use the library in the context of my working environment.

Daniel... third time watching, all the way through...in the last couple months... I'm definately going to scrape together enough to get iceni... just love the depth of sounds and emotion this creation provides... You do us all a great service, as you really tear into the ins and outs of these packages like no one else does... I thank you ever so much... I would not have learned enough otherwise (from spitfire or other vids) to have made the commitment to get iceni... you did it for me!

11:06 Cb is actually short for Contrabass. It's also called Double Bass because in early orchestral use (baroque/classicism) there were only one or two in a string section and their role was only to "double" the Cello parts (which were playing the bass of the harmonic material) an octave lower.

Sadly, as of March 7th, 2022, Iceni is no longer available to purchase. Hopefully, people who wanted it got it during the "retirement sale" at 50% off. There have been some unconfirmed rumors of a new replacement in development, which, apparently, may be titled Albion Colossus. The "core" orchestral parts of Iceni will also likely come back as one or more libraries in Spitfire's $29 Originals line. If they follow the same pattern as with the original Albion (Originals Epic Strings and Originals Epic Brass & Woodwinds) and Albion Loegria (Originals Intimate Strings), these will have the main long and short articulations, won't have the legatos, and will have close and tree mics, plus a third processed mic signal which was not in the Albion sources. For Iceni, I would guess that the third mic signal will be a epic/hyped trailer mix of some sort.

Tip: at about 1:08:26 you did this thing where you automated the EQ. A better way to do it is without track automation (IMO). I use the Max For Live plugin called LFO. You can "attach" (map) it's affect to a parameter of any other plugin (including your the frequency of your little resonator param. Set the wave shape of the LFO to noise and reduce frequency to taste. I use the LFO quite a bit.

BARON im pretty sure he uses cinesamples voxos. dont take my word on it though, i saw it used in one of his other videos so im just assuming thats his go to. super expensive library though, its 800 bucks. i personally prefer the sound of soundiron's choir libraries, even their 30 dollar olympus micro choir sounds phenomenal!
@baronMtv
@baronMtv 10 жыл бұрын
Haven't check out any other choir library after I got the east west choirs. About 32 Gigabytes of Ah, Eh, Oh, Oo, Ee and every single vowel and consonant you need to make any word you want. You have the option to use, bass, altos, tenors, sobranos, boys, solos seperately and any combination of them and you have the option to blend in different mic positions. Perfect sound, and amazing flexibility! It's one expensive library too, but I simply love it :)
@DrumsSnowSkateSoft
@DrumsSnowSkateSoft 10 жыл бұрын
BARON i was interested in east west choirs, but i went the soundiron route instead because theyre kontakt based (i use fl studio, which has crap compatability with east west's play engine), and i didnt really need the word builder. plus soundiron has an upgrade path for their olympus choir, so you get a discount going from micro to elements, and a discount going from elements to the full symphonic version of olympus :)

Hello Daniel and all other peeps! Thanks alot for your great videos. I have a question: What is your routing? Don't you have several outputs from your Kontakt 5? Where do you do the mixing? You see, my problem is that I've got one channel with MIDI that goes to the Kontakt 5, and from there I have a specific output that a specific audio track can take audio from. So for example, when I play something on a trumpet, it first reads the MIDI from the trumpet MIDI track, sends that to the Kontakt 5 track, the Kontakt 5 sends audio via a specific output to the trumpet audio track. This is great because it gives me lots of control and makes it easy to mix. The issue is however when I try to solo the trumpet. If I solo the MIDI track only, no sound is coming out. Same happens if I solo the audio track only as well. I have to solo them both for it to work! This is a big problem, and I can't find a way to solve it! Do you have any ideas? Should I maybe change my routing? How do you route your signals? Do you mix in Kontakt? Best regards // Elias

It sounds really great but I have to ask: how do you know which instrument is playing what in the brass section for example? And what if you'd want say a solo trumpet? Or arrange a voice more in detail? Like 16 violins playing the same note and after that splitting up?
@hadrianmyers
@hadrianmyers 9 жыл бұрын
Albion III, and in fact all of the Albions, are ensemble libraries, and the idea with ensemble libraries is that you do not have control over specific instruments within a section. If you want that from Spitfire, you should look at their BML range. Most sample library developers follow a similar design, one possible exception being CineSamples which do allow some degree of specific control in their entry-level CineOrch ensemble library which is highlighted in a more recent video by Daniel.
