Albion Online: Is it Worth Playing in 2022? In this Albion Online video, I want to talk about whether or not it’s too late to begin Albion Online in 2022. Recently I had the opportunity to play Albion, which is a Free-to-Play Sandbox MMO that was originally crowdfunded back in 2017 and is available for PC and Mac. However, unlike many modern Free-to-Play MMOs, Albion was not designed to be F2P and only became so in April of 2019. This is generally great news for players trying to decide whether a F2P game is worth it or not, because games that are built F2P from the ground up usually have gated content, or can sometimes be “Pay-to-Win”. This isn’t the case with Albion Online, thankfully, and in this video, we’ll take a look at why you might consider playing it in 2021.

The first thing you’ll notice about Albion Online is its rather unique visuals that may remind players of something like Torchlight or even an 80s cartoon. It’s a bit refreshing if I’m totally honest, if not a bit endearing, and helps to give the game a bit of a light-hearted feeling. That’s not to say its community doesn’t take the game seriously, because there are near constant wheelings and dealing happening in every nook and cranny of the game. It’s just that I feel it attracts a sort of player that likes to play hard, without obsessing over every little thing, while relaxing and having a good time. In other words, my kind of people.
The next thing you will notice is that the game is massively populated, with everyone jam packed into one large mega server. Frankly, I’ve never seen so many players in one location at the same time, and it almost reminds me of the cities in Guild Wars 1 back in the day, they are so full of people. If you have any concerns about a dying population or anything like that, then you can put those to bed right now, because there are so many people playing, there are almost too many. And with the game releasing a mobile version this summer that shares progress with your PC version, it’s only going to increase!
Although I have only spent a brief amount of time playing Albion Online this past weekend, about 7 hours or so worth, I already find myself firing up the game in my free time. For someone who plays games constantly, and is asked to check out X, Y and Z games with regularity, it is more and more rare that something pulls me in and intrigues me as much as Albion has already done in such a short time. And even though this is a sponsored post, I feel like that in itself is a big statement, and one that I was not paid to make.

I mean it when I say that Albion really is one of the best MMOs ever created. It has a healthy economy, all driven by players, a easy to get but hard to master crafting system, faction warfare, guild vs guild battles, structured PvP etc. These days with the latest patch they even introduced safer-pvp options for players wanting to practice the actual PvP content without the risk of full loot on death. still mad that they shutted down the game. Even with less players I loved to check out on the game from time to time since my childhood. It was one of my favourite games from the past. When it close just made me realize even more than fun things don't last very long.

You can market flip, do high tier solo dungeons, do pvp, e.t.c Premium is easily obtainable by a player 1 month into the game. If you can't afford premium 1-2 months into the game you are doing something wrong

@@LabGecko It's not pay to win because of how little in game money you get for your real money. You would have to waste an actual fortune of real money to keep up with how much money the richest albion players are making in-game. Spending money on the game will only get you started faster.

Yes me too, I must say I was pretty hooked up on this game after seeing interesting ads about the game, I believe this game is made better for PC, I have one major problem with this mobile version of the game but everything else is made really well, what I really don't like is that this game is zoomed out too much and my eyes hurt, also character design might be more detailed but I guess that's how the developer created the whole game

There is also a huge ‘black zone’ in which guilds wage large battles against each other in order to obtain zones in it, in which guilds can Crete ‘hideouts’ that acts as a home point for members, proving easy access to the more favourable zones within the game wielding better resources. Favourable zones are constantly fought over and such a system of alliances and wars are created via the community - waging large scale potential 100++ v 100++ battles. This can be a pretty big portion of the game if you’d like it to be - is definitely worth mentioning.

I've been playing for almost a month now, I participated in dungeons and faction warfare and also in gathering resources, but mostly ores, I would rate the game 45/50 so essentially 9/10.

its not always when you kill someone his loot drops , if you at least wanted to state this coment important then do it completely . blue zone - ... nope yellow zone - you can flag up , you can kill players but they can also kill you . never get their loot , neither you lose it . red zone - you can flag up , you can kill players but they can also kill you . either you lose your loot by dying , or you kill them . black zone - no need to flag , everyone can die , kill , and always lose loot .

I have loved Albion for the past two years. Like in many intense relationships there are highs and lows, but I always come back! I personally partake in the majority of content in the game. I gather trees, I craft potions, I participate in roaming gank and brawl squads, I do ZvZ with my guild and alliance, I do solo dungeons, sometimes corrupteds, and I do group fame farm as well. I also grow herbs on my islands and have laborers in my houses and guild halls. Don't forget to explore the Mists of Avalon and do some arenas! The only content I don't do in this game is probably Hard Core Expeditions. If you intend on playing solo just know that you will struggle, become frustrated, and likely quit much sooner than if you were to join an active guild. Joining a guild is really the best way to get to know the systems and mechanics of the game. This IS a PVP game first and foremost. If you struggle with getting ganked often and losing your inventory then I suggest you start ganking! If you learn how to gank, then you also learn how to AVOID being ganked. Don't complain about it lol. You need to learn to avoid it and also just accept that it is a major part of the game and it is a completely valid play style. Players are safer than ever before. Don't whine and demand change. Adapt! If you enjoy politics and bullshit there is plenty of that in this game as well. It can be fun to learn about the history of certain guilds/leaders and alliances. You can really get lost in this world and have dumped in hundreds or thousands of hours before you realize it. It's great fun and I highly encourage anyone who is interested in a PVP first sand box MMO to give it a shot.

Hey man, sorry for taking the easy way and just answering a youtube comment. I was never much of a farmer and crafter. But I love grinding for loot and gear and Open World PvP, as well as Dungeons (Solo, small group, Raid anything really). Will I be able to play the game and not miss out on gear or content even if I am not crafting stuff or opening my own farm to grow herbs? Thanks in advance

@@keksjanik2138 You won't miss a thing! All gear is accessible to everyone in the game (provided you have enough mastery to equip it). Crafting your own gear is actually more expensive (due to the specialization that it requires and the fact that you will wear many different gear types ex. Cloth, Plate, Leather) and nearly everyone just buys their gear from the market. People grow crops/herbs and raise animals on their islands as a sort of supplemental income. It takes a few minutes for a single island, but many players have several, even dozens, and that can take time. This game doesn't have a loot grind as dungeons just drop random shit. There are no special drops that you can only get from certain content. The main thing you will grind for in this game is silver so you can buy more gear and pay for premium. Of course if you know where a particular group of players like to play and they wear gucci gear then you can always go farm them and their gear sets lol. If you like PVP (open world and instanced) and you enjoy MOBA style combat, then definitely give Albion a go. Crafting and farming are absolutely not required.

Hard for me to say this as a deep lover of PVP content but Albion PVP content is super toxic and heartbreaking for the PVE player unless you’re in a good guild. Have to be a hardcore player to be in a good guild. Roads to Albion has helped though

Then stay in the safe zones lol. They give you plenty of warnings before going off too full loot zones. If anyone came from runescape then they'll be able to adapt easy. Things like luring, set ups, and etc in pking rs will be the same as albion online. Also you don't need to be hardcore to join a decent guild. Guilds are always recruiting and the infamous Arch alliance will always take new players and keep them safe with 100+ man police forces.

Ahh needed a break from call of duty. Received the ad yesterday. I'm an old school wow player from 2004.... so far this game is the closest thing to it for free. Glad I downloaded it from steam. I also have it on my galaxy note as well. Win win pc and mobile same game.

ignoring the politics of the game, (the developers have done some shady stuff) it’s a fun game to play with friends and build up a guild. i’m not too crazy on relying on guilds for content or fun but this game has me sold, just be prepared for a lot of grinding lol. and i’d like to make a note, there is definitely wrong choices, if you make a bad decision in the learning tree and you’re pretty far in it, it will take countless hours to get back to the same tier for whatever you replaced said gear piece with. find a fun looking build and a few friends and you’ll have a good time! :)

I'm actually sorry you had to go through that kind of experience... Unfortunately there are people like this in pretty much every games, but do keep in mind that these kind of guilds/people are NOT representative of the actual Albion community, or of ANY game community for that matter... Best thing you can do is leave these kind of guilds and warn people who might join them about their toxic/patronizing behaviour whenever possible, this kind of piss poor behaviours just... shouldn't be encouraged nor ignored. But yeah, like I said, I'm sorry you had to deal with these kind of idiots in your first guild... just keep in mind that THEY were the problem in that situation, not you. Games are made for fun, if someone can't even comprehend that simple concept, then they aren't worth anybody's time, including yours.

Tried this game back when it released and had fun with it for a while. Then the gold farming started. Many hardcore players found that by using their upgraded tools, they could completely clear lower tier resources from a map, making an artificial need for such resources and supply it back to lower tier players for a price. There wasn't a way around this unless you had comparable gear, which you needed the resources for in the first place, and the backing of a guild, because there wasn't a way for you to gather fast enough to make any progress with those scalpers around without other people helping you out. Really killed the game for me.

no WASD movement only click to move, fixed camera angle, 2 mode zoom - neither of which are useful. Clunky UI in general and seemingly made to be a mobile game. If the general display interface were changed, I can see this being a decent game. But I can't even get into it long enough to enjoy what the game might have to offer with all this going on right when I come in. I have Diablo and Path of Exile, I don't need this behavior in yet another MMO.

And solo/small group play is better than ever too, The Roads of Avalon are just god-tier for us solo and small guilds because it's completely isolated to the rest of the Outland, it still has the same ruleset, just not the Constant Ganking and Guild politics. (these roads are pretty much just Albion's version of EvE Online's Wormhole space system)

I don't think this game will die till early 2030s I feel like it can continue for a long time but if it does happen to die well there's always ppl who make revived versions of stuff (my example is from what happened with club penguin) or they may make a sequel version of it either way I hope more games like Albion get put out more and more as the years go by I originally stumbled apon Albion when I wasn't fortunate enough to have a powerful PC that could run to in an alright state (I mean it probably could but I had my settings a bit high so idk) but since the mobile version I've gotten to play it more often and find myself longing for it when I don't play but in summary I want more games like this and for this game to carry on for a long time/a while and I can't wait for the future

FWIW, the mobile version is already available and shares progress with the PC version. However, you have to manually redownload the game everytime they update. So I assume the mobile version reference is when it will be fully supported on the app stores (with incremental updates)

I played Albion Online for like 200h total in early 2021 and I think it's actually quite good. However you could have mentioned that there is nearly no good content without the risk of PvP. If you want to do high Tier Dungeons you can always get ganked. To get Ressources from tier 5-8 you need to go into PvP zones where ganking groups often camp on entrances. Also in corrupted dungeons (wich is great for famefarming) you can get invaded by other players even if you don't sign up for PvP. In the end it's a high risk high award system but without some friends or a good guild you will have a hard time farming outsite of corrupted dungeons. If you want to play Albion frequently you should really consider if PvP with partial full loot is the right thing for you.

@@Roel93 you don't have to do PvP. Just stay in the yellow zones. There's also nothing scary about PvP zones as you can wear gear worth 50k, go gain 500k, die maybe 2 times so you still profit 400k.

This video comes just at the right time. Yesterday evening I was trying out RuneScape (3), OSRS and a few other games on my new Chromebook, which just didn't run very well. And just before I was about to install this one as well, it was bedtime. Now you just confirmed my decision to give this a go. I already installed it and it runs beautifully at max resolution, though we'll see about that when I get into towns and such.. The starting area isn't exactly full of life.

My opinion, which I'm allowed to have: Albion is only worth playing if you're into pvp, point blank. I know the commercials go on and on about it being sandbox, but its sandbox pvp. Pvp is what makes the Albion world go round. If you aren't into full-loot pvp don't play because if you are in it solely to craft you wont be able to gather higher tier materials unless you go into a full-loot zone.

The materials gathered from the full loot pvp are much more profitable precisely because it is risky to gather them. The game dares you to outsmart the gankers, and pays you off for being able to do so consistently. The thrill of evading gankers makes gathering much more fun imo. What's the point of just clicking a button and seeing numbers go up? Honestly, gathering in albion online wouldn't be that different from cookie clicker if you took out the full loot pvp.

I know a consistent number of people who've left Albion over the long time I've played because the game is too stressful for those looking to just get away after a long and trying day at work. Imagine coming home, gathering for 2 hours and have a haul worth millions, and you walk into a zone where 15 gankers are waiting and they take your shit because there's no way to escape when they put you in a CC lock. Not everyone plays games for an adrenaline rush, hence the reason I made this comment to let those type of players know so they don't waste their time with Albion. Some can't handle that level of frustration of losing all their hard work to a bunch of pking freeloaders, because let's face it, it's not hard to kill someone when it's 15v1.

@@lalo6427 Have you read anything I've said? Please don't answer if you aren't going to put much thought in it. Everyone knows this game is a social game, that's a "duh" answer right there. And everyone knows you can hire bodyguards. You can "socially gather", you can "socially pvp". That's not the point I'm making here. My point is, that IF YOU ARE NOT INTO FULL LOOT PVP, DON'T PLAY. Because there are players drawn by the "sandbox" title Albion uses but don't realize this game is pvp centered. You cannot gather higher tiers without partaking in full loot pvp because the zones the resources are in are full loot zones. You can take bodyguards with you all you want when you gather, it's not going to guarantee your safety. There's a lot of people who see the word "sandbox" and just want the grind and don't want the trouble of losing everything they just worked on getting. So to those people I'm telling them not to waste their time with this game unless they want to stick to blue and yellow zones the whole time and never ascend to what really makes this game tick. FULL LOOT PVP. ZVZ. GANKING.

To me it really looks like Ultima Online. Best MMO ever. Craft your own gear, place your house outside of safe zone. PK players leaving safe zone. Camp players corpse. Dead calls his friends/guild. You get your mates and start an all out PVP war outside of safe zone. Fun times

As an old Everquest 1 & 2 veteran, I was pretty surprised about how much I liked Albion right from the start. In the past I almost always played a Paladin or some version of it depending on what each game had to pick from. So I was rather intrigued about a classless system. In the beginning I had a lot of fun just going from zone to zone collecting various resources so I could explore what all could be crafted. Overall I found the game to be quite enjoyable and as long as you don't mind the amount of grinding you'll often have to do then I definitely recommend giving it a try. Just my 2 cents....

This game is kind of a mixed bag. It's amazing for users with potatoe to low grade pcs/mobile users but those with a medium to high grade pc will desire more honestly. Daily maintenance is annoying (if its still a factor). Solo play/pve gets boring after a while which really isnt a bad thing because this game realistically is catered to guilds and large scale battles. Most of the interesting bits in the game invovles small scale zergs/zerg vs zerg battles which can be a cluster **** majority of the time. The community wasnt too toxic when i played but definitely had a few bad apples. I wont touch on the P2W/Non-P2W topic because its been discussed in length a bunch of times and as a rule of thumb if people have to debate rather or not a game is P2W 8/10 its P2W. All in all its a decent game to enjoy time in if you have no other game to immerse yourself within. CHEERS!!!!!

I actually played this game for roughly 2 weeks, and trust me this game isn't like eve (online). You may be able to pick you class in the beginning but from that, there are quests and other things that get to take you to an end point. The reason people enjoy it, is because the game is not supposed to be free-to-play. Buying the extra subscription will help you get farther much faster. Now you can argue it's not pay-to-win. But not to be rude, I've seen a lot of commercials and I don't think it's that epic!

Quests that get you to an end point ? There are 2 tutorial quests that's it. Premium sub can be afforded by ingame silver suuuuper easy but yeah you should really have that running if you play constantly. I bought the first month with real money and after that never had to spend a penny for years. The reason people enjoy this game is because they are PvP lovers and there is almost no game with direct combat and full loot. Kills feel absolutely satisfying

They should have had PVE zones that you can go in with to get the highest tier mats. Black Zones should just have a much higher spawn/drop rate for the best mats.

agreed, when this game was in closed beta it was so much fun because it felt like playing runescape, everyone was fresh, no one knew what the fuck to do and you didn't have cringy guilds patrolling the higher end zones. Game is flawed and this review is pretty rigged too, despite claiming it isn't.

I think whether some people like this game or not is irrelevant. FE obviously played this game enough that they thought that they'd like to promote it, in a way that they could. I don't believe FE would take a sponsorship unless they actually liked the product. This video is them sharing a game that they had fun on and thought deserved a sponsored video about. It helps revenue-wise for them, and it gives AO some new viewership possibly. You've got to respect FE enough to trust that they wouldn't just sell their brand out for a couple of extra sponsorship bucks.

I appreciate the trust. I always investigate the games before accepting a sponsorship, and I only publish the content if I actually had fun with it. We usually do a lot of the playing on stream so we get the community's feedback as well (we did so with magic legends, albion and pascal's wager that's coming soon). I have actually cancelled a sponsorship for a game after I saw that the actual game was not as advertised, even though I had already put hours into playing - so I honestly appreciate your confidence that I won't just try to sell you anything. For this specific game: During our stream least 50 community members decided to try it and are playing since they all asked me via DM for codes for premium / gold that I was giving away, and I can see several on discord playing right now. I think the game is fun :)

100% agree. I played for a LONG time. But you can't get top level gear or top level research without going hardcore PVP. Your best gear that you spent weeks crafting gets ganked in 5 minutes. Mandatory PVP should be mentioned. if you like it, then great. But for me, it ruins the game.

the thing about P2W: yes you can spend $10 to get a couple of mil, but with low spec that wouldn't matter at all if you have the highest possible spec (level) for an item, you could run T6 items and be better than T8 items. Furthermore, some builds counter others, and most builds require knowledge and skill to run.

Give this game a try. I use to play rs too and this has been the only other mmo that has kept me since rs. The world is always populated because of the mega server. Which is good as you won't be bored or lonely like how rs is now. Join a guild and enjoy this game. If you enjoyed pking in rs, you'll like this game even more. Or you can be a skiller or you can flip items off the market like how you can in rs grand exchange. Just a heads up though, many of the endgame activities requires you to at least be in or go through pvp zones. Think of it as farming in the rs wild. High risk high reward.

I love Albion, but PVE isn't as fully fleshed out as I'd like it to be. For example, I love it when games have a weekly raid or something to that may give participants a lot of rewards if they complete it once every few days or weeks. I realize this may be hard to balance in terms of loot, as the Albion economy is a microcosm of a real one (inflation can be a thing), so maybe just the fame alone would be enough to make raids worthwhile to players. I know daily/weekly/monthly challenges are a thing, but I'm talking about having a big event every week or month, rather than just collecting keys from whatever.

I’ve been thinking if I should get the game for a while now and the only thing stopping me is that the game is 2.5D and I don’t really like 2.5D games

It's worth it. It really is a good game. In the beginning it can be kinda confusing but then it's prettygood

this games amazing...the combat feels like a moba...reminds me of Diablo 2 with pvp heavily focused

Tried it at launch & didn't enjoy it, gave it a second try recently & now I'm loving it.

Same for me Tried it at F2P launch and i didnt' like it, came back a year later and i've been hooked every since For a Full loot pvp you need to have a certain mindset (also what is the point of pvp if you don' t get anything out of it ) Sad that so many ppl are hating on this game and saying its P2W which is not true lmao

the full loot pvp system is not a bad thing i fucking hate it when people say they dont like it Just dont play the fucking game this is the thing about albion that makes it cool also why people dont look at it in the other side? if you dont get killed you get all the loot and get goods and money

@@samyar5333 Dude, take a moment, re-read my comment and tell me where I said it was a bad thing? I didn't. I just said he should have mentioned it- it's a pretty integral part of the game - like you say it's what makes it cool for you, so in a review it would be good to mention it :)

I got this game's ad just before starting the video. After the ad ended I saw the same thing. I was like WTF until I realised it is the actual video. : ) LOL hahaha !
