I remember Andy 3 years ago nailing the post-talk of one of Carlitos's first big win again Tsitsipas. Debating with the other two hosts "I don't think if this is even an upset". One of the big stars who first figured out Carlitos potential. Great, Andy. I saw him at his prime as a player too and he was scary ;)

Andy’s analysis is always so spot on! If you listen to Novak’s presser, his analysis of the match he PLAYED is the same as what Andy says here. And Andy recorded this 7 mins after the final. So he couldn’t have seen Novak’s presser. Incredible analysis! I just wish we could listen to him commentating live in some of these matches.

At this rate, Alcaraz will better Swiatek in numbers. He is 21, Swiatek is 23. Alcaraz has won slams in all 3 surfaces but Swiatek has won only in Clay and hard court, not in grass. But also Swiatek is improving , her serve got better nowadays. Once she starts winning in grass, there is no stopping her. She is the most consistent player in women’s, her winning percentage is more than 90% this season. Also Swiatek has less injury history than Alcaraz. That will also play a major role who will end up more slams. Right now, considering Alcaraz is 2 years younger than Swiatek he is staying ahead in the race. But things will change once Swiatek starts getting comfortable in grass and faster courts and winning. Let’s see.

I really do think Carlos' serve is going to continuously improve in time especially as a spot server, i think he can do what djokovic did with his serve and if that coincides with his physical peak over the next few years, he'll be absolutely diabolical to face 😌 Can we talk about how different the RG & SW19 wins for Carlos was? With the physical way Carlos plays, we have to see if he can win enough slams in his 30s while injury free. As Andy has said before he needs a little bit more of that defensive playing style of Djokovic if he wants to be more consistent and last longer. Aggressiveness will only go downhill past mid 20s. Carlos already missed AO and masters because of hip and wrist injury. You think he can go 10 years without any side effects?? I think 15-20 slams is more reasonable if he is healthy.

He's like rafa.. except without a peak federer standing his way. imagine how many grand slams rafa would have without federer? How many times did rafa lose to federer in his early years? *"There's a changing of the guard."* This is my first time saying this and I do not say this flippantly. In a previous post, I said that Djokovic could have already reached 25 major wins before this final. He would've won the 2021 US Open had he controlled his temper and NOT hit the lines judge in the throat with a tennis ball resulting in disqualification. Also, if Djokovic were vaccinated, he would've also won another Australian Open, #11. Let's be clear. _My comment isn't about whether or not Djokovic should've been vaccinated._ I'm simply being factual. Because Djokovic was NOT vaccinated, he was denied entry into the 2022 Australian Open. At this Wimbledon 2024 final, Djokovic was routed by Alcaraz. To be hawkish, Novak Djokovic will never win another Major. His window is closed. Djokovic is tied at 24 Major wins with Margaret Court and he won't reach #25. Djokovic won't tie Federer's 8 Wimbledon titles either. Alcaraz and Sinner are too good and getting stronger. So are other players. Djokovic recently stated that he wanted to beat Federer's 8 Wimbledon titles. This, of course, meant that he would've had to win today's Wimbledon title to tie Federer's wins and then... win one more. It isn't going happen. I, like many of you, wanted to see Djokovic win #25, breaking Margaret Court's 51 year record, and tying Federer with 8 Wimbledon wins. Because I saw Novak's window of opportunity closing during Covid, I implored Novak, on every social media platform I could, to get the jab. Again, _my comment isn't about whether or not Djokovic should've been vaccinated._ Novak is his own person. He made his choice and I respect it but the consequences of his choice is he won't reach #25. Who are any us to say if he thinks it was worth not getting the jab? Some Olympic athletes will dope to win Olympic Gold. Look what Lance Armstrong did to win the Tour de France. Of course, doping and vaccines aren't comparable but they both have benefits and consequences. In time, will Novak look back and wish he had gotten the jab? Outside of his immediate family, I know that Novak cares about winning Majors more than anything else. I venture to say he cares about winning Majors more than being anti-vaxxed. I could be wrong. It's my own unscientific opinion that I wish Novak did get the jab. Yes, it's a trade off but I bet he would be sitting at #25 right now, possibly #26. Obviously, after all is said and done, Novak Djokovic is the GOAT. Congrats to Carlos Alcaraz for his 2024 Wimbledon win. What a phenom. The future of tennis looks bright indeed. Another thought about Alcaraz's potential of someday surpassing Djokovic's 24 Major wins. Djokovic is the only man in history to win more of his Majors past the age of 30 than when he was in his 20s. I doubt that Alcaraz will have Djokovic's kind of success past the age of 30. Alcaraz, like Nadal, is a physical player. Because of Alcaraz's physicality, I foresee injuries preventing him from winning more Majors in his 30s than in his 20s. I believe that Alcaraz can pass Djokovic's 24 Major wins, but most of those wins will have to be in his 20s with a few more in his early 30s. Alcaraz will have to win 2 Majors a year before he's 30 to reach Djokovic's 24 Major wins. This isn't easy to do, even for a tennis genius like Alcaraz. Of course, at 30 years old, he should still be at the top of his game and have ample opportunity to win more Majors. Alcaraz could leap frog into the GOAT conversation if he won a Golden Slam, especially in the same calendar year, which has only been achieved by one other tennis player in history, Stefi Graf. I'm rooting for Alcaraz. In the distant future, I wonder what the price of ticket will be if Alcaraz plays for his 25th Major win? _...if we don't blow ourselves up first._

Thoughful comment but its good he didn't participate in the experiment in 2020. He knew what the tradeoffs were and he held firm in his beliefs. As it turned out, the correct one as all the side effects are starting to come out now. I think you're putting too much emphasis on what's going to happen in the future. Novak is the GOAT now and that was his goal. It has been fulfilled. I don't think Novak will care in 15 years or more if someone breaks his records. He had his time at the top and then it will be someone else's time. Records are made to be broken anyhow.
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 Ай бұрын
@@badmanskill1112 Agreed but Djokovic is on record saying he wanted to break Margaret Court's record. He also said that he wanted to surpass Federer's 8 Wimbledon wins. Novak said he wants to be the greatest grass court player who ever lived. That won't happen. As of now, Federer is the King of Grass.
@badmanskill1112
@badmanskill1112 Ай бұрын
@@davidhunternyc1He wanted to break all the records. He already has almost all the important ones. Also, how else can he motivate himself other than putting other records in sight. What's Federer and Novaks grass record against others and each other? Doesn't Novak have a better record against others as well as Federer? Fed can be the grass GOAT, while its very apparent Nadal is the clay GOAT and Djokovic is the HC GOAT and all time GOAT. There is more than enough praise to go around. Either way, when it's all said and done Novak is going to be extremely satisfied with his career. It seems like people on the internet care more about all this stuff than he does. He has a beautiful family, got to play a game his life and made great money doing it. Its all perspective... Novak won. Heck, so did Federer and Nadal and anyone else that made enough money to have a comfortable life playing a game.

Exactly, false sense of Novak's chances in this match, because he handled very little competition before this final, he didn't have to really test out his knee like Carlos did to him. Hes a great champion and I've always been cautious to discount him because I knew he would prove me wrong, but with his age and the young and very good competition, this match felt like the end of his grand slam chances.

Who will win more slams? Alcaraz or Swiatek? Right now Alcaraz is an easy pick. He is 2 years younger and has mastered every surface which gives him a strong chance to win any of the 4 slams. Iga on the other hand has failed to reach the QFs in 3 of her last 4 slams. I also think the best of 3 format produces more volatility than the best of 5 format. So, Swiatek will always be more prone to upsets in the early rounds than Alcaraz will.

you say we don't know why Novak doesn't want to go toe to toe in the raleys with Carlos, and that is false. We do know. Novak doesn't want to defend, because he thinks (and right so) he can't on consistent rate to defend Carlos offense. so he goes - best defense is the offense and it totally didn't work this time. But what other options Novak had? none. Could he outlast Carlos? no. he could hope for Carlos dip in concentration and that could have make him win a set perhaps, but that was not the strategy to win the match. Simply put, Novak was not terrible, apart of the net play, but Carlos was just too good. and what was the best aspect of Carlos being so good. He maintained his focus throughout the match - minus the one game when he choked on 3 match points. But the way he recovered was another mental win from Carlos.

Swiatek vs Alcaraz I would say Swiatek has a solid 1.5 slams a year. I would say Alcaraz has 1-3 slams a year. The difference being both estimates is Alcaraz getting injured. Also depending on the competition: Swiatek's main competition is surface, while Alcaraz's main competition is players

Yep, Djoko faced just two bottom seeds and was in the final, with a W/O in the QF. Meanwhile all the big guns are knocking each other out in the other side of the draw (Alc, Sinner, Medi). Props for getting past Rune and Musetti, but facts are facts, those two can't play grass (they lose 54% and 48% of their grass matches, respectively). I'm of the opinion that Alc has the FO and WB to himself for the next 10 years, cos no one else is hitting 80%-win percentages on those surfaces since the big 3. Alc has to improve 5% on hard courts, and whether he can manage that will determine whether he takes the GS tally record. If he does, all records will tumble

I don't get it why we are talking about the knee here, he has been crusing through the easiest of the draw until he faced a really good oponent. He was moving really nicely even in the third set. The really game changer was the level which Carlos got from the first game, carlos pushed him mentally in a flustered state and then kept piling it up. All kudos to Carlos for bringing the A game and djokovic was his usual good but could never match the A game of Carlos irrespective of the knee

As for more slams, Alcaraz or Swiatek gut feel is Alcaraz, but that being said the womens side just seems to be much more open 9 different women's champions in 9 years is pretty telling. But the reason i think Carlos, is that he looks elite on all surfaces, whereas Iga is elite on clay, pretty good on hard courts and not so good on clay. Also Alcaraz vs Sinner, Carlos hands down as well, he just has all the shots in his toolbox.
