It disturbs me that the inflexible thinking of being a drunk or a teetotaler is rising again while responsible, self-disciplined working and thinking is demonized. It is interesting that it is happening in other countries. 20 years ago I worked alongside physicists from CERN and ILL at facilities in Chicago and Tennessee. It was normal to buy a case of wine for the cellar; every evening or event had a bar; but I never saw someone drunk. You worked hard all day, pausing to chat over coffee and tea throughout a long day, and then relaxed and philosophized in the evening with people and a drink. I’d heard it said that one drank caffeine to work hard at what you already knew and alcohol to be creative, reflective and solve problems. (I also value exercise, but it’s hard to collaborate while biking or running) The last couple of years under Biden the cost of alcohol has increased a lot, the availability has decreased, while the discounts have been removed at government level (at least in TN), incentivizing me to seek out bulk discounts to save 10-20% off at least 30% increased costs. In the last 2 years, multiple cashiers have told me boldly that anyone who buys in bulk is a drunk and that Biden’s laws are to protect drunks from themselves. As a 24 year patron of a fine establishment where I had a reputation for sobriety at the end of wine tastings and never had a DUI/drink incident, I found other places to become a patron. Sadly a lot of places require you to join a registry or have a $2-$10 upcharge of every bottle. It is frustrating to work hard at a good life and see this

Who exactly is paying this "cost" and to whom is it paid? Is this the "lost production" argument? If so I beg to question how much production would be lost if everyone had to work stone cold sober 24/7. I don't drink, btw.

I once heard an idea put forward that aligned a high level alcohol drinking with the prettiness of the women within the UK... A causation/correlation argument would surely ensue If immigration rates were to be included into the conversation. Just saying...
