Dear Tim, I am in my second day of not drinking no withdrawal symptoms yet. I can't get in to see my GP until 4 June, and am a bit worried that things will start, a d what if I need medical attention prior to that? Thanks so much for the gift of your videos which I know is a lifeline for so many. David-

Do you still think about it after all these years? That is a stupid question. Obviously you do. You watched this video. Some long time sober people seem to still have booze on the mind, as if it is still a part of their lives. What is the deal with that?

17 days sober so far. I feel irritable, in a bad mood most of the time, but that's all right because I'm sober! I gotta tell you, I really really like being sober. I like being able to drive somewhere at night. I like waking up in the morning without a hangover. I like not getting upset over things that aren't eorth getting upset about because my thoughts have been distorted by alcohol. I just hope I can stay the course. I don't want to go back. That really scares me.

ive got to drive every morning at 4:30 am and it got to the point where i could absolutely not see anything at all. I almost lost my job of 10 years because i just wasnt able to give it up, and called in weekly. Because im such a hard worker in a leadership position, they bared with it. My girlfriend of years beared with it. I'd consider myself the luckiest man in the world.

I'm on day 10 of a 1-month sobriety challenge. Last night (thursday) was the first evening of my weekend and it was HARD not to stop and get something. I thought about it more and more as my work day drew to an end, but somehow I made it home without stopping to get something, then after sitting down with a sparkling water and some snacks to pass the time till bed I made it past the pressure of wanting, that kept bouncing between my head and my chest! I don't know what's going to happen over the weekend, but today IS day 10! and I managed to get through last night! That single fact gives me hope for at least finishing out the month... I don't know what'll happen after this month... I'm hoping that if I actually do have anything to drink after the month is done, that I can bring myself to do multiple "sober months" during the year.

If you are reading this - Please know and BELIEVE that you CAN do this. You CAN quit. I was pounding a liter of rum every single night. I knew I had to quit or I would lose everything - my health, my family, career, money, house, etc etc. If you go to a reputable medical professional, they can help ease the withdrawal to a much more manageable level. I know from experience. After the physical recovery, you MUST address the psychological, emotional, and spiritual reasons why you turned into a problem drinker. I wish the best for anyone struggling. I am over three years sober - and life looks a lot better than watching it through the bottom of the liquor bottle.

Thank you for posting this. I am on Day 8 now and I never want to go thru this ever again! It's not worth it! I went thru the withdrawals which lasted about 5 days the worst day was the 5th. I had everything you mentioned plus Anxiety Attacks which were to me the worst part of it all. But the 6th day I felt much better, I was very surprised. I finally made it out of the house today and was able to get some sun and some exercise which made me very happy and hopeful. The hardest part now is finding other things to do when I am wanting a drink especially in the evenings because I am alone. I used it as my comfort and something to look forward to each night. So now every time I begin to want a drink I have a carbonated water with lemon and it seems to help. I have Liver & Kidney problems now and staying away from alcohol is extremely important for healing. I have also switched my diet to Fruits, Veggies & Complex Carbs with no oils, sugars, breads or anything that is "refined" or has preservatives in it in order to try and get maximum healing to my organs. I even had to stop drinking coffee because it was adding to my Anxiety Attacks. I have no one around to help me so finding videos like this on KZfaq has been very helpful and encouraging. So again, thank you for all you said here because I really needed to hear it. God Bless you and everyone that is going thru this.

After 30 yrs of very heavy drinking I went from around 25 pints of strong lager a day + whisky ( wife monitored it ) to nothing overnight. Hospital refused to admit me until my brother who's a doctor took me himself . I was severely ill and he thought I might die but I was detoxed with large quantities of librium, numerous drips etc . It was stil a horrendous experience including hallucinations and i could barely walk even when i was discharged . That was 2.5 years ago and I haven't had a drink since and am now fairly fit and strong. I detoxed myself numerous times over the years being ill for a week each time ..no fun at all but it took going to hell and back for me to finally say enough is enough. If you are a VERY heavy drinker and have maintained it for a considerable time I'd be very careful about stopping abruptly and without advice. Alcohol is just another pain killer at first but becomes a pain causer very quickly. Good luck .

Vodka is my poison, and I never in a million years thought I would even be a victim to the addiction, if I am being honest. Your video has only strengthen my willingness to stop, even though the withdrawal symptoms will still be there. Hope you're doing okay. But that much diarrhea you need to make sure you're getting enough potassium. Low potassium (hypokalemia) can be quite dangerous or deadly. If you are cramping (especially in your arms, hands, neck) go to your doctor and get your blood tested.

This honest connection from your video has been the only realistic connection about detox and gaining back control is a blessing because we struggle to be in control but drink to have no control and to just forget. Now i want to remember to Move out and realised I’ve moved on.

I went through medical detox. I strongly recommend it. I’m one month sober today. The first 4 days were definitely the hardest, but the doctor gives you medication and vitamins to help you out. I’m glad to say that i feel way better day by day. The anxiety is still there but It has been slowly fading. It’s definitely hard, but it’s soo worth it. Crazy how bad alcohol can be for you. Also, I highly recommend taking vitamins while going through withdrawals. Super B complex and magnesium citrate definitely help.

Getting prepared to stop alcohol. A bottle of wine or more every day for 15 plus years. Sonogram showed fatty liver. I'm really scared. I'm a 58 year old woman that has self medicated with alcohol for years. I quit for two years when I was 40 but drank on weekends and then my son at 24 committed suicide so I picked up the bottle. This is really a huge thing for me to try. Thank you for the video.

I quit cold turkey and let me tell you it’s not just days, it’s MONTHS. The withdrawal is different for everyone. Here’s a list of what I’m still going thru, after 6 months. I was a heavier drinker on the weekends 🤦🏽‍♂️ Anxiety, clammy hands, hot sweats at night, diarrhea, depresión, palpitations, panic attack from thinking I’m going to have a heart attack, insomnia, aches and pains, feeling little pinches on my chest, I even saw a little girl with overalls once (which was a hallucination) The more resent ones are the waking up almost sweaty and insomnia, recently my anxiety is going up again because I’m over thinking this withdrawal. I thought it was already going away, then I started feeling weird pains again and well, got anxiety from thinking is a heartbreak. I help myself calm down saying “I’ve been thru this, I could have sworn I was about to have a heart attack 6 months ago, It’ll go away” But even saying that, being a bit weak minded can make you go nuts, get anxiety and end with depresión. Things that have helped me stay alive and not go back is Looong walks, feed your anxiety. Drink water and eat clean. Anxie-t is my LOVE right now, get it at the vitamin shope. - It has gaba which is super needed when going thru this withdraw - L-Theanine - Kava Kava And one more I can’t remember. Also buy magnesium citrate, a separate jar of gaba 1000mg, mega B vitamin supplement. There’s more you can do, but these are the ones that are getting me thru this second stage. I saw second because at the end of the 5th month I felt like I was already out of this withdrawal, but then it started with little anxiety, into am in going to have a heart attack now, whoa, it’s the same pains and feeling form the first time, I thought it was over and that led me to re taking my vitamins again. Valerian root is also good before going to bed. Sorry I made this long, just trying to share some info :) Stay positive, if you’ve made it 2 months, you can go 8 months. Don’t go back to having poison ❤️

There is just not enough information out there. I know everyone is different but I've seen a few prominent KZfaqrs telling people it's ok to go cold turkey....something I definitely wouldn't advise.

I was drinking 9 bottles of 8.5% cider a day over lockdown and went nuts! I started shaking every day and no amount what I drank it wouldn't stop. On the third or 4th night, I started seeing things like shadow people and was shaking so bad I couldn't sleep for another 10 nights as the vibrations were keeping me awake. I decided to go outside and disappeared for 3 days which I have no idea where I went. The police found me and I was taken to the hospital and given a forced detox, scary shit. I still drink but only moderately and only a glass of wine with a meal. I cannot stress to anyone how bad this was and to get help straight away, I think a hospital detox is a way to go as I went batshit crazy. It's insane the tricks your mind can play on you especially whilst also having cabin fever due to this lockdown. Hope this helps..

6 weeks sober tomorrow for me. I ended up having multiple fits at home. Luckily my fiancee caught me fitting and called doctor out. She was told I was basically dying!. Got rushed to hospital where I had a massive seizure which nearly killed me. I was on beers all day at work plus maybe up to 2 70cl bottles of whisky after work. Definatley seek medical advice as it did nearly kill me, and at only 42 what a waste of life. Feel awsome now. Tough first couple of weeks once I was out of hospital but not bothering me at all now and feel better than I have in years. All senses are crystal clear, Including razor sharp vision. Keep at it folks. I nearly paid the ultimate price for a poxy bottle of whisky.

Eating can cause great pain for an alcoholic, especially if their pancreas is constantly inflamed (chronic pancreatitis). So I can understand why some don’t like to eat. Also if they aren’t working, money usually goes towards the habit and every else becomes secondary.
