Why are live rounds even on the set. There is no need for shooting live rounds at each other for the filming of a movie.

It's a damned if you do damned if you dont problem. A 'real' handgun or rifle loaded with blanks has no recoil or movement at all. If there is a scene where you are shooting but there is nobody downrange (IE for effects) you can load live rounds under those controlled moments. That way the footage looks perfect. There are ways to build some guns that 'recoil', but it's not easy. The solution in movies is to have a skilled armorer. Those people are the most important to check on.

I have disliked this man long before this ever happened and am sad to say this has nothing to do with his money and everything to do with the ineptness of the prosecution. Every 12 year-old is taught that THEY are the only one who decides if a firearm is loaded or not. We tell students that even if an instructor hands them a firearm and tells them it's unloaded, THEY need to check. It's fundamental to anyone who knows anything about firearms. Being a Hollyweird bigshot doesn't absolve anyone of the responsibility for BASIC firearm safety. At least not until today. Baldwin just completely failed the "Are you smarter than a fifth-grader" challenge. This is awful.

Good! He was in no way responsible for this accident. Actors trust the director and armorer and prop master to NOT have a loaded gun with “live” ammunition be placed in their hands! The prosecutor was trying to make headlines and a name for themselves by trying a beloved legend of an actor! I’m so happy for him and his entire family and friends! He’s a class act and didn’t deserve to be put through this hell! This judge saw through that bogus prosecution and did exactly the right thing. Finally a judge that upholds the law makes the news. So happy for Alec and his family. This should have never been brought to trial. The prosecution and the police need to be held accountable for hiding evidence. And for people saying this doesn't change the fact that he is still responsible: Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer and the person responsible has already been sentenced to 18 months for manslaughter, so as tragic as all of this is, Halyna and her family has gotten justice (even if they don't think so). Though the downside is that this could impact the case against Hannah who I hear is already planning on appealing. I hope it doesn't but it's highly likely.

I'm glad this was resolved. Mr Baldwin is an actor, not a gun expert. When making movies, you appear to aim at the other actor when you are actually aiming several feet to the side. The camera does the rest. This was a single action revolver; you cannot see the rear of the ammo for any hint of color or tip difference. The gun is given to the actor, with blanks, and that is the responsibility of the armorer to ensure what loads are in it first. The actor may not know the difference at all, it's not their job. Mr Baldwin was likely doing as he was told; aiming to the side. If there had only been blanks, all would have been fine. Unfortunately many of the crew were filming within the 'line of sight'. That line, on a short revolver, is NOT precise. Whoever was at fault for letting live ammo and a fully operational handgun on the set IS responsible to ensure there is NO mixup. Ever. Mr Baldwin, even if innocent, will feel the consequences emotionally for years to come.
