This slow motion is great. Yet to what speed shall I set my videoplayer to watch it at the natural speed? On video the pist looks almost horisontal and I cannot figure out its steepness and the speed. In my neighbourhood all pists are green and I wonder if it is possible to achieve that high edging angle there.

Excellent carving turns, now being very specific and criticising perfection, he does start the first turns “unnecessarily” narrowing his stance at the crossover point (bringing his skis too close together), but much less so (from min 1:49) when he starts using the tuck position and for the rest of the video (min 2:50), when back to open the position and the use of poles. Yet again, he demonstrates a perfect carving technique with pure edge grip with no skidding. Amazing video.

Here is a great opportunity for me to explain what skiing is and what you need to do and think about to allow your skis to turn As a skier, you are in a constant state of falling down the hill. By design, your skis will make turns under you to make skiing more fun and they will control your speed and make you stop. They will do that if you do what they need. 0:46 At this point he is balanced on his right arch so the right ski can make a left turn. 0:47 He has decided he would like his ski to make a turn to the right. He stops the travel of his upper body across the slope with his skis and faces and leans if down the hill. Notice his upper body stop as his skis continue across the slope. That is what changes the leg angle which rolls the skis over onto the opposite edges. 0:48 When his legs are vertical, he changes his weight from his right, downhill foot to his left, uphill foot so when his pelvis pulls his legs over, it will put his left ski on the inside edge and that ski will make and control the turn. All he does is balance on the skis, one at a time. Forget what it Looks Like!!! He doesn't twist or force his skis to change direction. He doesn't "Tip" or "Topple" his knees over to the side. 0:49 Notice how his entire upper body is facing and leaning down the hill while is skis are just beginning to make the new turn. "You think about skiing from your face down, not from your feet up." the last thing to happen is the skis turning, not the first. You do this from beginner to Giant Slalom Racer. The same thing! The only thing that changes is the amount of leg angle. 0:53 Notice all the repositioning of his upper body while his skis continue crossing the slope and they don't even start to change direction until 0:56. 0:54 Look at the angle of his skis and watch them roll over as his body falls down the slope. 0:59 Imagine he is standing sideways on a staircase. His right foot is on the lower step and his left foot is on the upper step. He faces and leans down the stairs and steps up onto that upper step. He falls down the stairs and that left foot rolls over. Because he is on skis on a ski slope, the skis turn around under him and arrest his fall. Do you see him twisting his feet and pushing the tails back and forth? Nope! They just roll over from one side to the other when he falls down the hill. You think about skiing from your face down, not your feet up. 1:38 Watch his pelvis anticipate each turn by going in the opposite direction that his skis are going. 1:50 VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! All he is doing here is keeping his upper body in a stable down the hill direction and pedaling the bike. Every time his skis pass under him, he gets off his downhill foot and as the leg angle changes, the uphill ski will roll over and make the next turn. The skis turn, not you. get off the right, get off the left, get off the right, get off the left. No twisting or forcing the skis to do anything. EVEN MORE IMPORTATNT! Does it LOOK LIKE he is Tipping or Toppling his knees from side to side to make the skis roll over? Yep! Is that what he is doing? NOPE! His knees are leaning forward and down the hill and his skis are taking his feet from side to side to make it LOOK LIKE THAT! I want to go straight down the hill, get off my right foot. I want to go straight down the hill, get off my left foot. That is how simple skiing is. You just balance on one foot after the other and think about where you want to ultimately go. Not right and left but straight down the hill. I'm going to leave you now as there is nothing more you need to know! 3:00 He had to go and start making Carved Turns. Okay so what do you have to think about to make carved turns. You are standing between two stools. You want to rest your right cheek on the edge of the right stool, so you take your weight off your right foot, lift your right cheek and slide it over onto the edge of the right stool. When you lift your cheek, it forces your upper body to stay vertical. The farther over you slide onto the stool, the steeper the leg angle. Everything in skiing is the same from beginner to racer. Only the degree you do it changes. Bye again!
