About the Festival:
Established in 1987, Melbourne International Comedy Festival (#MICF) is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, alongside Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.

This joke has so many great parts. First he comes out -- then he's not gay -- he does it every year -- then his grand dad -- but grand dad has known since Alex was 9, even though it's not true -- then he outs his friend who had nowhere else to go for Thanksgiving -- but presumably he's not gay either.

@Donut Gain You think I'm explaining the joke, because you don't know the difference between explanation and relishing something done so masterfully. We can be grateful, however, that at least we had a year before you came along. And btw, Always Useless is obviously self-deprecating humor, that only the dim & unkind with no substance to offer fall into using as a lame ad hominem put-down. And less obviously, Always Use Less is a serious earth-friendly motto, that I try to live by. Anyway, ad hominem comments made in the belief that it's fine to insult strangers are the reason KZfaq comments are often considered to be the trailer parks of the Internet--though that seems a bit unfair to trailer parks.

I have one in mind, but to reach that one at the current rate would take about 17 more years. Can anyone guess what number that would be? No advanced mathematics required. :-)

His speech at the 2016 'Great Debate' at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival was fantastic. It was really heartfelt, sincere and intelligent, yet really fucking funny. That's always the best kind of comedy. I hope he keeps making the trip to Australia.

I wonder how hard it is to do the same joke in venue after venue? Probably if you're Alex Edelman or in his league, the energy from being live on stage makes it work every time. Apparently, this was a one-joke performance. Other clips of Alex on KZfaq run 3 or 4 times longer and show his artistry in an even stronger light. Still, I'm glad someone uploaded this. You can't show more than what he did. Ciao!

About two days ago I was watching one of Alex's sets. It was the joke where he was at a train station in London and the two drunk American girls stumbled past him and asked if he was American too and long story short he pretended to be deaf to get out of an awkward situation. Does anyone else remember this joke? Because I swear I was watching it two fucking days ago and now it's either had all traces of it removed from the internet or I memorised an entire joke (that was actually funny) imaging the face of Alex (a comedian I barely knew existed at the time) retelling the joke to an audience at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, entirely on my own. Help me out, I'm really starting to question my mental state.

Potatoes. What kind of Thanksgiving is tomatoes? I hope that was just a typo. Also, at the risk of seeming just a tiny bit picky... It's turkey, singular, not turkeys. Agreed, though, it's a great joke.
