⚠ *CORRECTION* - Turns out you CAN set routines to these buttons, but its the most convoluted method imaginable. 1 - set the routine you want in the alexa app, but make sure that you set it to be triggered by a specific voice command. 2 - once thats set up, get the voice remote pro and hold the blue alexa button and speak your routine command you set in the alexa app on your main phone/tablet. 3 - Then go into the fire tv settings - Remotes & Bluetooth Devices - amazon fire tv remotes - alexa voice remote pro - Button shortcut. 4 - you should see at this point the recent voice command you made to the remote, which you can then set to one of the buttons. So basically youre setting a button to run an audio command that runs a routine thats triggered by the audio command. 'Simple'..... 👀. Thanks to Frank E (in the comments) for finding this out!

Step 3 can be done by just holding the custom button down for 5 seconds

Thanks for this, but I've tried turning on scenes AND starting routines with a voice command, but none of the useful voice commands I've tried show in the side panel. Does the 5 second hold on button not show these in the side panel? I'll try your settings path method to see if it makes a difference.

Amazon Tech support said it does not support routines??? For what that's worth. Maybe we can use adb to make a routine start. - setting a button - run an audio command - to start something random - like Amazon music - adb listens to amazon music opening which activates routine - routine closes Amazon music and actions what you want it to

I love the fact it has a backlight. I would buy it for that feature alone.

Not worth the cost. Should have been included months ago in all remotes included with Firestick max

@@markdossett5993 Respectfully I disagree. You say it's not worth the cost. But the regular 3rd Gen remote costs $29.99 and this one costs only $34.99. So you're saying this Pro remote, with Programmable Buttons, Backlit Keys, and an Alarm that helps you find it, aren't worth $5.00?!? Because I contend that they are. This is a premium remote that has features not everyone will enjoy, but it works with almost every Fire Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Smart TV made, (with Fire TV built in). The 3rd Gen remote that comes with the Max doesn't work with TVs that have Fire TV built in. It should've come with the new Fire Cube TV 4k, because at that price point, you deserve a Pro experience. But Amazon usually only gives the new remote to the new device, and makes them available to others (at a cost) if you wish to upgrade your old one. And for $5 more than a regular 3rd Gen remote that's not backlit, doesn't control my smart home or launch side-loaded programs, and gets lost all the time, it's a small price to pay to have this bad boy in-hand. I gave them as Christmas gifts, and everyone LOVED them. Worth EVERY penny. Thanks Stu, for sharing your views on the remote. I hope you enjoyed mine.

Still not worth the price for it even if you say it is a premium remote. Too me, it's not premium. Those special buttons I don't even use on the remote that came with my firestick max so they are useless to me as would be the 1 and 2 buttons on the new remote. Everything I need is on the Firestick menu. The only other option is find remote feature but still not worth the price they are charging. You who would pay that price must have money to burn which must be nice to value money so little to throw it away on cheap remote that really doesn't do much and could be better at the price they are charging for it.

The sound to find the remote is a feature which is very useful. This is a feature more remotes should offer. I had this feature on a old Magnavox CRT in the 90s. I used it constantly since falling asleep with the remote lends itself to a lost remote.

That remote should come with the new Fire Cube or Fire TV Max! No it's not worth upgrading as on boxing day that will be £15 in the Xmas sale

I said the same thing when we got the new Fire TV Cube. Missed opportunity to have it release with that device. Might've made it work the price.

I bought 2. One for my 3rd gen cube and the other for my Firestick 4k max. One has Disney+ button, the other has apps button. I also bought 2 silicone covers for them. The remotes that came with both devices I took to the RSPCA charity shop.

You can assign the two buttons to any action that you can speak of. As long as your Alexa Routine is triggered by voice, you can assign that to a button. 1. speak the command using the blue button. (this gets it on the list you can later choose from) 2. In the Fire TV Settings- Controllers- Alexa Voice Remotes- Alexa Voice Remote PRO- assign a button shortcut to your "voice triggered" Alexa Routine from the recently spoken commands To use the button, do a short tap. A long tap sets it in program mode.

Wait… what! 👁👄👁 that’s a fantastic tip! Such a convoluted method though, setting the button to trigger a voice command to trigger a routine 😂. Totally obvious! Will check it out tomorrow to verify!

@@StusReviewsUK Actually, once you speak the voice command into the remote to trigger it. You can then simply press and hold the button you wish to program for 3-seconds and the recent one is on the screen, navigate to the one you want and Bingo-Bango-Bongo: Bob's your uncle. Hope that helps.

you've nailed! That works! I spent hours yesterday trying to work out how to trigger routines etc and just couldn't fathom it and couldn't work out why some things were in that list! SOLVED! Great work Frank E.! I'm NOW pleased with the thing!!

It should be required by law to include a "find my remote" function on ALL remotes. It's nearly 2023 for crying out loud!

Stu, totally agree with your findings. If they would’ve incorporated the ability to launch routines with the 2 extra buttons I would’ve been a buyer! Without, I don’t think so!

It’s actually smaller than the one provided with the new Cube ! I don’t mind too much. It feels better quality and more solid. The back light and find me feature are cool. I do think it could have been supplied with the new Cube, but that is already very heavily subsidised and is an amazing piece of kit!

Was hoping to hear how long the batteries last now because of the back lighting and other stuff added. Even though I like the find remote and back lighting features only, not worth the price since that's what I paid for my firestick max and this remote should have been included with this one and cube.

I’ve found that you can’t use sideloaded apps with the custom buttons, you can’t even set a voice command to run them. I’ve sent mine back because of this.

Finally a premium remote that works with my amazon smart tv. I was mad that the fire tv omni remotes weren't compatible with the 3rd party fire tv smart TVs. Like the remotes are the same model just the mic button is a different color. I never understood why that the omni remotes were only compatible with Amazon's new Branded tv. Now the omni remote is the new remote the comes with the fire tv cube 3rd gen. But still can't be paired with my 3rd party insignia fire tv.

Thanks for this! Was wondering how good/bad this new remote was. As for those shortcut label buttons, Disney+ was the only one I ever used! And now they've removed it! 🤦‍♂ So now I don't know whether I want this new remote or not... 🤔Although I use Amazon music I always play music through my amazon echo so that shortcut button is a waste of space! I like the idea of easily finding the remote, I too lose it frequently!!

AFTVNEWS has a reprogram run-around for the app buttons. As long as the app button being used doesn't have the matching app loaded up you can use it to shortcut to most any app. The only ones I believe not able to be reprogrammed are the Prime Video and Amazon Music. I don't remember if Amazon Music is optional.

Stu is your remote a review sample? , because my UK retail one that just arrived thankfully has Disney+ on the lower left app shortcut rather than the general apps shortcut on the one you have.

Mine was ordered on day of release from Amazon UK and has Prime and Netflix top row and then General Apps and Amazon Music on bottom row.

My remote pro has the following 4 app buttons in addition to the 2 customizable buttons: Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video.

I wish I could buy this UK remote with the App list shortcut. I can only order the US version here in the states which has Disney Plus shortcut instead, which I don’t need. Unless someone from UK wants to order me one and sell it to me 😊

I've had 2 firestick remotes fail due to leaking batteries or faulty connections with the batteries. This is in a regularly used remote and very annoying. I can't see this being any different over time to the rest.

Maybe $15 but not $35 when that's what I paid for my firestick which included a remote, and that remote should have already included back lighting and remote finder. They can do a we ay with preprogrammed buttons because I never use them.

@Simon Knight You have to say the routine using the alexa button on the remote. Once the routine is used with the remote. It'll show up as an option to make that one of your custom buttons

They should have made it Hands Free Voice enabled. They put a speaker for the lost remote function. But you still have to hold the Alexa button

I'm a amazon music subscriber (Here in Brazil) and it's rare to use the remote coz I can simply ask to play a song speaking to alexa! I Love amazon music.

Wireless charging..Mmm . Well if only someone came up with AAA Batteries that can be charged wirelessly, it would make alot of devices able to charge on charging pads /matts. 😆

Is it worth the £35 ? To me no, the limited extra features are just that, .limited. Yes I like the find it feature but thats the only useful bit. all the buttons should be reprogrammable

Having a bank of rechargeables makes battery drain much of an issue. Regards, yours a 2x Xbox Series X and 1x Series S owner.... Oh and a PS5/4 Pro/4/3 owner too who hates internal batteries - don't get me started on that bloody Nvidia Shield remote....

We reviewed this remote on our channel as well. And we did use the customizable buttons to run Alexa routines, (to dim lights, turn on TV to a specific app, etc.), and one to open Security monitor on both Show 8, and TV. If you're not using yours for Amazon routines, what are you using your 2 buttons for? Asking for a friend... LOL

To be perfectly honest, I just bought a 3rd Gen FireTV Cube and I put away the remote that came with it and have no intention of getting the new Remote PRO... simply put, LESS IS MORE... I don't need either remote with tons of buttons i'm never going to use... I prefer the simplicity of the 2nd Gen Alexa Voice remote which doesn't have much more than the wheel up top and volume up/down and a mute button... with those few buttons, i can' control it in the dark, always find what I need, and never am wondering if i'm pressing the right button or not... LESS IS MORE! Stop overloading remotes with tons of buttons!

The customizable buttons are a plus for me, because from bed, I can run a routine to show me my security camera outside, with having to yell at a box tethered to the TV and waking up my spouse. But you do you Wolf. Different strokes, are what make the world go round. You say "LESS IS MORE" but my motto has always been, "He who dies with the Most toys - WINS!!!"
